2 OUTREACH AT BAWCC P a g e 2 On March 4th we made a food delivery of 5 boxes of non-perishable food items to the Bay Area Women's and Children's Center. This is from the items placed in the basket at the back of the church each Sunday. They use it to supplement their SF Food Bank purchases and it is distributed to the needy in the Tenderloin neighborhood. On March 13th we assembled 35 Easter baskets for the children at the Children's Play Group held at the nearby rec center (this center was built with the financial support and coordination of the BAWCC. These baskets will be picked from Alice Gates and delivered to the children at their spring party. Thank you for all your help in assembling the baskets. A special thanks to the Godly Play Group for the cards you made to include in the baskets. Thank you all again for the generous contributions of food for the basket and for the candy and cosmetics for the Easter baskets. BRAID Mission Braid Mission was established by our diocese two years ago to help support young people who are in the foster care system. Braid trains mentors, who work in teams to surround foster youth with a community of love, care, and hope, setting them on a path toward healing from the wounds of foster care. By being a listening ear, a consistent presence, and a safe space, mentors help restore a sense of self in foster youth by reminding them of their inner strength, beauty, and dignity. Each young person has a team which consists of a facilitator and three mentors. The commitment is that the mentors-as a team-meet with their foster child one hour a week. The training is thorough and comprehensive. The team's facilitator functions as both liaison and support, and meets with the mentor team once a month. The Co-directors of Braid are The Rev. Rebecca Edwards and The Rev. Chris Chase, both priests in this diocese. Rebecca and Chris are hoping to try a new model, and St. Francis' may be the testing ground. The model is to raise up the 3 mentors and 1 facilitator from within a parish, thus enabling an already organic group to then function as a cohesive team with the child that they are assigned to. Rebecca and Chris will be with us on Sunday April 17th- to preach, to have a Q & A session after the 10am liturgy, and to meet with potential mentors to further discuss the intricacies of mentoring. For more information, please go to their website: braidmission.org. In the meantime, please prayerfully consider whether the Spirit might be guiding you to become a mentor.
