Some were away at summer programs and jobs. Some went to live with relatives in the country or in distant towns. Some made road trips and some spent time just being with family at home, before the busy school year begins again. Whatever the case now we re back! And it s good to be back! We have some exciting new programs! A new catechism schedule for a new year and some old and new participants! We have a new President of the Women s League. We have already kicked off the new Alpha program. There are even some exciting new building and renovation projects underway and on the horizon! It s all a beginning. How will we realize everything and see everything through!? Simply by calmly and confidently walking with the Lord! How do we do that? Well, to walk with someone, we have to be with them - in mind and body! We have to have an understanding that we are not just walking on the same street and at the same time more or less. That would be simple chance and not togetherness at all. In such a case the paces would be different and pauses would cause some to go ahead and others to be left behind. If a turn in the path occurred, then people would be on different paths - probably a path that leads elsewhere. Eventually we would become separated and lost. That s not walking together. We as a parish will go a great distance together if we consciously and spiritually and, yes, physically, stick together, keep each other informed and care for each other along the way. Ever walk with a big group? We all have to watch out for each other. Pass the messages down the line. Sometimes pass the message up the line to the leader(s) that we need to go slower or pick up the pace. The group is responsible for each other. We are all one! It s about everybody - the athletes and those that need help and encouragement to stay with the group. Let s be a team, let s be one group. A group that truly cares and watches out for EVERYONE, not just ourselves and our own circle. That, friends, is the spirit of the Church the spirit of the Gospel. The feast of the Dormition of Mary, and the days that surround it, has a tradition of a shroud ("plashchanytsja") similar to that of the Lord on Holy Friday. It is a beautiful Image of Mary who has "fallen asleep" and it is venerated by the faithful in a similar fashion as the Holy Week shroud of Christ. We would like to obtain such a "Dormition Plashchanytsja" for our parish. The shroud and an appropriate case for it (see the one behind the Altar) would cost approximately $600-$700. PLEASE DO THIS! Phone NUMBERS ON THE FRONT PAGE PARISHIONERS! In the interest of expanding our collective stewardship for our Parish - we are adding to our liturgical participation. We thank those who now accept taking turns Reading, Greeting, Ushering/ Collecting, assisting at Holy Communion and helping distribute Holy Communion as well as the Altar Servers and the Girls of Mary. Now we are expanding to the services of Sacristan and Acolyte. If you are designated as a SACRISTAN (an S in front of your name above), don t panic. All it involves, for now, is that you come a bit earlier to light the candles before the Iconostas(2), on the Tetrapod(2), on the Prokomedinyk(2) & upon the Altar(14). After the Divine Liturgy, simply, respectfully, extinguish them all. ACOLYTE ( A ), for now, simply means lighting the charcoal for the Censer (kadylo) before the Divine Liturgy, placing it out in the Sanctuary and asking the presiding Priest if help will be needed during the Liturgy. He may ask that you remain near the Altar to pass the Kadylo when needed, and to lead the entrances (with the Gospel and with the Gifts) with a candle and open and close the deacons doors.

5 Holy Eucharist UCWL NEWS Next monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Centre Multi-purpose Room. The month of September is our month to transport residents to Divine Liturgy at Holy Family Nursing Home. We are asking for all available help, please be at Holy Family by 9:15 am on Sunday. For more information please call President Val Munson at STUDENT BURSARY The Holy Eucharist UCWLC is accepting applications for their bursary. Any member of our Parish enrolled in a university, college or Catholic high school may apply. Celebration of the parish 100th anniversary with a visit to the old parish hall NEXT SUNDAY,th September 16 Come and join us for 10AM Divine Liturgy after which we will celebrate our centenary with a procession to the local Afro-Caribbean community located at 259 Watt St. the current hosts of our original parish hall. After a brief historic tour of the old parish hall and picture taking, we will make our way back to host a family BBQ with our Afro-Caribbean community.
