2 Beginning January 16, 2017, a painting company will re-paint the stained ceiling tiles in our church. This project is estimated to last between 4-6 weeks. Therefore, we will hold daily Masses in our church hall, and our church will be usable for our weekend Masses. St. Peter s Church in New Iberia has graciously allowed us to celebrate any weekday funerals at their church. As I have mentioned a few times at Mass, the cost of this painting job will be paid by the roofing company, because it was their mistake for not having properly secured the roof before rainstorms hit. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this repair project will cause. Because my original intention was to secure our church roof so that our ceiling tile would not get stained due to leaking. God certainly has a sense of humor! Thanks for your patience. Retrouvaille has a weekend coming up soon, January 20 th, 21 st, and 22 nd in Lafayette, Louisiana. Retrouvaille is a ministry for couples in troubled marriages. Retrouvaille is French for rediscovery or reawakening. You may be more familiar with marriage encounter, which is intended to enrich good, stable marriages. Retrouvaille is more like a lifeline for troubled or broken marriages and hurting couples. It is for married couples who are anxious about their marriage, alone or distant from their partner, disillusioned or bored in their marriage, or who are experiencing coldness or conflict. The weekends involve intensive work on communication skills and provide the foundation for the forgiveness and trust essential for rebuilding broken marriages. The six post-sessions frame up the concepts and provide practical solutions such as a method to resolve conflicts in a way that avoids the hurts of the past. Retrouvaille is a catholic ministry that is supported by Bishop Deshotel and the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Lafayette. Retrouvaille encourages individual and spiritual growth and the ultimate goal is to reinstall in hurting couples the joy and satisfaction of sacramental marriage. For more information or to register for the weekend, please contact or visit our website at Nativity Mausoleum Update Our sales campaign is underway for the construction of new mausoleum crypts at Nativity of Our Lady. The new mausoleum is probably 1 year away from completion, therefore, the small number of unsold crypts that we have in current inventory will be reserved for temporary placement for caskets of families who have bought in the new mausoleum and are awaiting completion of the new facilities. We wanted to make this information known so that you can plan accordingly for your family s burial needs. If you would like to speak to a salesman from the Acme Mausoleum company, please call the church office for their contact information. REFLECTIONS Epiphany - The Feast of Epiphany commemorates the visit of the three Magi at Jesus s birth. At the very beginning, we are reminded that Jesus came not just for a select group, but for all people. It is worth noting that those who acknowledge the birth of Jesus were lowly, uneducated shepherds and foreigners. The priests and elders of their own community were not there. Perhaps we should rethink our assumptions about people and remember that God so loved all of us that he sent his son, Jesus, to walk with us. RSVP to the Church office ( ) by Monday, January 23 rd. Diocesan Marriage Anniversary Mass Sunday, February 12, 2017, 2:00 PM Sacred Heart of Jesus, New Iberia Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel will celebrate the annual Diocesan Marriage Anniversary Mass, honoring couples who are celebrating 25, 40, 50, 60, or more years of married life. Pre-registration is required by all couples who wish to be recognized during the Marriage Anniversary Mass. Due to the large volume of participation each year, only couples who are celebrating one of the designated anniversary years may register to be recognized, and the anniversary must fall within that calendar year. No registrations are accepted at the door on the day of the Anniversary Celebration Mass. Bishop Deshotel will present all registered couples with a certificate in honor of their marriage anniversary, and a special reception will be held immediately following each Mass. Friends and family members are welcome to attend the Mass and reception; however, reserved seating is only available for the couples being honored, while others are asked to be seated behind this reserved section.
