4 雷門 ~The thunder gate~ 浅草観音寺の総門 もともとは 10 世紀半ばに平公雅によって創建 幾度の火事にあいながらも 1960 年に再建 正式名所は 風雷神門 風と雷の神様の門 という意味 Kaminari-mon is the main(entrance) gate to the Asakusa Kannon Temple. Kaminari-mon literally means the thunder gate. This was originally built in the middle of the tenth century. It has been destroyed by fire several times. Today s gate was rebuilt in 雷門の大提灯 1960 年 ( 昭和 35 年 ) には巨大な赤い提灯を吊るした雷門が 現在パナソニック株式会社の名で知られる松下電器の創業者 故松下幸之助氏の寄進によって再建されました 松下は雷門の屋根中央から吊るされている大提灯 ( 高さ 3.9m 幅 3.3m 重量 700 kg ) を寄贈しました This large red lantern was donated by Mr. Matsushita Konosuke. He is the founder of Panasonic. It represents Good harvest and world peace. In addition, it is the symbol of this Sensouji temple.

5 風神 雷神 ~ The god of thunder and wind~ 正面から門を見て 右が 風神 左が 雷神 浅草寺を災害や悪霊から守る役割 風雨順時と五穀豊穣の祈りも込められています 1960 年に再建されました The left figure is the god of thunder. He has small drums to make the sound of thunder. The right one is the god of wind. He has a white bag of wind. They are protecting this temple from evil spirits and from disasters. Please look at their mouths. The God of Wind says A and the God of Thunder says UM. In Sanskrit (the language used in the ancient India), A means birth and UM means death. And the way between the two guardians denotes the human lifetime. We can go through the gate because we are alive. 天龍像 金龍像 雷門の北の間 ( 風雷神像の背後 ) に安置されている天龍像と金龍像は 水を司る龍神であり 浅草寺の護法善神です The pair of this statues is the incarnation of a dragon. They are also protecting this temple.

6 仲見世通り ~Nakamise street~ 仲見世通りの長さは約 250m 日本で1 番古い商店街の 1 つであり いつも活気に溢れています 1685 年が仲見世通りの発祥と言われています 店舗数は約 90 店舗 This colorfully decorated shopping lane is called Nakamise, which leads straight to the main hall. There are about 90 stalls. They sell many souvenirs, like Japanese kimono, sword, etc. They also sell foods and drinks. This street has a long history. Some of the stalls were established about 300 years ago. In those days, citizens near here were made to clean the garden of this temple. In return, the government permitted them to open stalls in the precinct. 伝法院通り 仲見世を通過すると江戸時代の昔の情緒あふれる 伝法院通り と言われる小さな道路に出ます 祭事用の短い着物コートである半纏や江戸切子のガラス製品などといった物や 老舗の飲食店や喫茶店などが並んでいます

7 ~ 食べ物 in 仲見世通り ~ 人形焼き (doll-shaped pancake) Ningyo-yaki are small pancakes baked in the shapes of dolls and animals. They re filled with sweet red bean paste or custard cream. だんご (rice dumpling) Dango is rice dumpling. There s a wide variety of rice dumplings. Kibidango which is one of them is made with mochi flour and millet flour. 雷おこし (Thunder rice cracker) Kaminari-okoshi is a Japanese snack which is made by mixing roasted rice with peanuts and setting with sugar and starch syrup. 食感に関する表現方法 食感 texture brittle( サクサク ) / crisp( パリッとした ) / crunchy( バリバリ ボリボリ ) / smooth( なめらか ) / chewy( モチモチした 噛み応えのある ) / sticky( ねばつく ) / soft( ふわふわ ) / moist( しっとり ) / chunky( 具だくさん )

8 ~ グッズ in 仲見世通り ~ 着物 (Kimono) Kimono is a Japanese traditional clothing. We wear Kimono for special occasions, such as the Coming-of- Age Day, wedding receptions, or parties and so on. 招き猫 (good-luck beckoning cat) The good-luck beckoning cat figures that welcome customers into places of business and tiny traditional Japanese dolls. We believe this brings us good luck and fortune. 箸 (chopstick) We can find various chopsticks in this lane. We always use them when we eat Japanese food, but we sometimes use them when eating certain western dishes too.

9 宝蔵門 ~Hozo-mon~ 浅草寺の山門 上の階に重要文化財が保管されています 1964 年に再建 仁王像が安置 This Hozo-mon Gate is the main two-story gateway to Senso-ji temple located near the Main Hall just past Nakamise street. The Hozo-mon Gate was originally built in 942. But it has been destroyed many times by big fires and also the 2 nd world war. Actually, the current building was rebuilt in Hozo literally means the treasure trove. The Hozo-mon Gate consists of the upper and lower levels. The Hozo-mon Gate is so named because the upper floor of the gate stores the Buddhist treasures of the temple. ~ 豆知識 ~ 942 年に宝蔵門を始めて建てたのが 平公雅 そして 1964 年に 宝蔵門を再建したのが 大谷米太郎 です 彼は ホテルニューオータニの創設者です

10 仁王像 ~Deva Kings~ 仁王像 ( 仏陀の守護神 ) が安置されています 左 ( 西 ) 側は 阿形像 右 ( 東 ) 側は 吽形像 悪霊を追い払うため恐ろしい形相をしています The lower floor of the gate contains a pair of wooden statues of the Deva Kings, the guardian deities of Buddha which are installed on either side of the gate. Deva Kings protect people from everything that happens from the beginning to the end of the world. These two statues are even more imposing than those at the Kaminari-mon Gate. They are fierce looking with glaring eyes to ward off evil spirits. 大わらじ 宝蔵門の裏に大きな草履が飾られています 山形県から寄贈された物で 10 年おきに変えられています The pair of straw sandals is a charm against evil spirits. As evil spirits think that there is such a big guardian who uses these sandals, they run away in fear. In addition, people touch these sandals for good lack.

11 五重塔 ~5 story-pagoda~ 942 年に平公雅によって創建 火災や戦争で幾度と壊されたが 1973 年に再建 下の階から順に地 水 火 風 空を意味しています 日本で二番目に大きい 53.32m The five-story pagoda was originally built in 942 along with the Hozo-mon Gate. It has been destroyed many times by disasters and the 2 nd world war. The current pagoda was reconstructed after donations in The five roofs represent the Buddhist universe. From the top, sky, wind, fire, water and earth. The five-story pagoda was originally built to enshrine relics of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. In fact, a genuine bone relic of the Buddha donated from the royal Temple of Sri Lanka in 1966 is enshrined in the topmost floor of this pagoda.

12 ~ おみくじ (Fortune telling paper)~ 1 Insert 100yen coins. 2 Shake the box. 3 Turn it upside down. 4 Find the same number as is written on the stick. 5 Read the paper. 6 Tie it on the rope to sweep away your bad fortune. ~ 香炉 (The Incense Burner)~ This is an incense burner. This smoke is believed to cure illness. So, when we pray, we put the smoke on our ill parts. 体の悪いところ よくしたいところに煙で洗うようにつければ その部分がよく なると信じられています ~ お水舎 ~ Before entering the main shrine, we need to purify our bodies. 1 Take the dipper in your right hand and wash your left hand. 2 Next, take it in your left hand and wash your right hand. 3 Then, pour the water to your left hand and rinse your mouth. 4 Finally, wash the dipper for the next person. 参詣前に体を清めるために水 1 右手で柄杓を持ち 水を汲んで左手を洗います 2 左手に柄杓を持ち替えて右手を洗います 3 右手に持ち替えて左手で水をすくって 口をすすぎます 4 最後に柄杓を縦にしてクルクル回しながら 自然に水が柄を伝わって流れ ひしゃくについた手垢を洗い清めるようにします

13 浅草寺本堂 ~The main hall~ もともと 1649 年に創建 1958 年に再建 都内最古のお寺 観音像が祀られています 防火用 耐震用として手金コンクリート造り The main hall was rebuilt in It is modeled after the original wooden temple. The original one was built in It is dedicated to the Kannon statue, but we can t see it. It is too sacred. The outer Sanctum contains the two famous ceiling paintings the Figure of the Great Dragon by Kawabata Ryushi and the Figure of Tenjinsanga by Domoto Insho. According to legend, the dragon descended from heaven when two fisherman brothers fished up the small gilt statue of Kannon from the Sumida River. The dragon was then painted on the ceiling of the outer sanctum of the main hall.

14 浅草神社 ~Asakusa shrine~ 現在の建物は 1649 年に徳川家光により寄進されました 国の重要文化財に指定 三社さま として親しまれています This is Asakusa Shrine. The current building was founded by Iemitsu Tokugawa in This shrine is related to as Sanja-sama which means three holy gods. The three gods are the two fishermen who found the statue of the goddess of mercy and the head of the village who enshrined it. They are enshrined in this shrine. There are a pair of lion-shaped stone-carved guardian dogs to protect the shrine from evil spirits beyond the torii gateway. ~ 神道と仏教 ~ 神道の特徴 日本で生まれ育った神祇信仰 入り口に鳥居 二礼二拍手一礼 主な用途は誕生 結婚 お祝いごと 仏教の特徴 インドから伝来した宗教 入り口には門がある 合掌 お葬式などで用いられる

15 二天門 ~Nitemmon-Gate~ 境内で一番古い建物 国の重要文化財に指定 仏教の守護神である 増長天 と 持国天 が安置されている Niten-mon gate is the oldest structure of this temple. The gate was built in Ni means two, Ten means a class of Buddhist god. So, this is the gate of two gods. One is Zocho-ten guarding the south. The other is Jikoku-ten guarding the east. These two gods prevent evil spirits from coming inside. It has survived the destruction of air raids and now it is an Important Cultural Asset. 日本の生活と宗教に関して 無宗教 の傾向であるが 無神論 ではありません 日本人は他の宗教に対して比較的寛容です 逆に1つの宗教に縛られることを嫌がります

16 東京スカイツリー ~Tokyo Skytree~ 2011 年に完成した放送電波塔 世界で一番高い放送塔 (634m) デジタルテレビ放送を行うために スカイツリーを利用 The Skytree is 634m tall. And then, it was recognized by the Guinness World Records Organization in 2011 as the tallest broadcasting tower in the world. Five commercial TV stations including NHK utilize the new tower to broadcast digital TV from a height of around 600m. The main attractions of Tokyo Skytree are two observation decks which are located at the heights of 350 meters and 450 meters above ground respectively.
