A school is a place where students begin to learn the lesson of life. At NCFE, a large number of opportunities are provided that gives every student an environment where they can contribute and shine. Our educators, being facilitators, encourage them to develop in their special field of interest. The quest for excellence has assumed paramount importance not only in the field of academic achievements, curiosity to know more but also in leadership qualities. In today s age of faceless communication through various social media, the purpose of education plays an important role which helps them to analyse and explore. NCFE plays an important role where both the teacher and the student explore, not only the ever expanding world of knowledge, but also their own thinking, behaviour and acquire moral values, courage and strength to walk on the path of truth, humility and hard work. We cannot always build the future for our students, but we can build our students for the future. The systematic approach and implementation of the activities, commitment and dedication of the faculties, cooperation of parents and the hard work of the students, together has branded NCFE as a centre for academic and moral excellence. Our journey towards excellence continues. - Mrs. Smitha Menon Freedom or independence is when our actions are shaped by personal priorities rather than external constraints or social pressures. It is the ability to follow our deepest desires and exercise judgement even when others disagree or disapprove. The presence of independent thinkers is hence a gift to society as they are the ones who direct their thoughts and ambitions away from the rest and inspire others as well. The several freedom fighters whose sacrifices we still remember today, are examples of such free spirits and they are also the ones who liberated our country during a period of extreme hardships. Independence is not just a political virtue, but also a moral one. Personal independence drives our day to day decisions, both large or small and allows us to shut down the people who try to manipulate our actions. It is all about being fearless about our opinions and not being dependent on any external factors. But when such freedom and independence turn into ignorance, it can be quite harmful. Thus, it is necessary for the people of the globe to break the chains of restriction and be unaffected by outside words and expectations, keeping in mind that their independence does not lead to arrogance or lack of interest in other s problems. Who do you want to be? - George Bernard Shaw EDITION EVENTS@NCFE 0 INDEPENDENCE DAY Freedom is dear at any price, it is the breath of life, and what would a man not pay for living? August 15, 1947 is the day engraved in gold in the history of India. It is the day when the long and hard struggle of our freedom fighters finally bore fruit and we gained independence from the British rule. Each year we celebrate Independence Day as a tribute to the spirit of freedom and also the courageous sacrifices countless men and women made. Our school upheld this morale of courage, sovereignty and patriotism by its jubilant celebration. We all celebrated this day with great enthusiasm. Chairman, Dr. N. Vijaya Kumar, Principal Mrs. Susan Barrid and Principal Accelerated Learning Mrs. Kruthika honoured us with their presence and inspired us with their words. With freedom in our minds, faith in our words, pride in our hearts and memories in our souls, we hosted the tri colour flag and sang the national anthem. Our patriotic spirit was showcased by a melodious symphony of songs by our school students. The Academic toppers of last year who had performed exceptionally well were felicitated. Our nimble footed dancers performed a plethora of dances representing some of the national symbols like the Lotus, Hockey, Tiger, Peacock etc. Also, a marvellous formation of the Indian flag left the audience spellbound. The splendid celebrations finally had to come to an end. It was truly a day very well spent. Spirit of patriotism pervaded the atmosphere and aroused in all love for our nation. TEACHER S DAY It is rightly said that school is a temple, the teachers are its gods and goddesses and we are their devotees, and as a mark of respect to our teachers, a wonderful program was held by the students on the 5th of September, The program started off by invoking the blessings of the All mighty with a prayer song by Sadhika and Madhura, followed by a wonderful song by the duo; Raghav Joshi and Nirvaan. The school band left the audience speechless by their performance on the song Rolling in the deep. This was then followed by an entertaining Mad Ad and an improve by the group of the best actors in the school: Prakul, Aarya, Uddeshya, Mayank and Pulkit, who left the audience in tears of joy. Finally, the students of grade X and XI performed a tribal dance which brought the program to an end. In one of the following days, all the teachers were also taken to a resort in Srishti village, where they spent a wonderful day and this finally brought the celebration to an end. PICNIC Picnics are one of the best ways to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It is a fantastic diversion which not only breaks the monotony of our everyday routine but also inculcates important life values in people. It soothes the mind and adds fun and excitement in our lives. Picnics are of tremendous importance for students. The students enjoy a break from their everyday study routine and are energised and refreshed. Our school recently organised a picnic for the students of NCFE. The primary students enjoyed their day in the Grameen camp while the senior school students spent three fruitful days at the Indus school of leadership. The ecstatic children spend their time outdoors, under a rich blue sky and the bright shining sun. They not only enjoyed with their friends but also their lively and enthusiastic teachers. Everyone actively participated in the wide range of activities which were conducted. They learnt important lessons regarding team-work, patience, leadership etc. Everyone was relaxed and in high spirits. As all good things come to an end, the picnic also had to end. The students returned with a fresh mind and with wide smiles on their faces. The time was truly well spent. The students of NCFE had a wonderful experience and the picnic will surely reside in their memories for a long time.

5 Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain 05 Cultural Regale Life becomes a festival when culture and celebrations blend. NCFE Regale delivers the message of both. As the name suggests, Regale 2018 was a captivating event for NCFE, abounding in culture and art, and offered a glimpse into the past. It was the perfect forum for artists such as singers, dancers and actors to showcase their talents in fruitful competition and brought the entire school together in a jubilant fest. The event started with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony by our dignitaries, followed by a melodious invocation song by the school choir. Our chief guest, Dr. SheejaVeloor imparted a few words of wisdom and with that, the competitions commenced. The students certainly displayed their talents in events such as mime, group song, solo dance, instrumental etc. The performances by the participants left the audience in awe-as the mimes pulled at our heartstrings with the emotional topic of organ donation, the energetic tribal-themed group dances brought the spectators to their feet and the mellifluous melodies of the singers made us hum along. It is truly a rare opportunity to see students from all grades put their hearts and souls into an event and cultural fesst of the school granted them that privilege. It is very much apt to say that this year s Regale fest was undoubtedly one to remember.

NCFE Boys team were the runner up in the boys under 18 category in the Interschool Football competition hosted by Ebenezer International School Bangalore. NCFE students participated in HAL school fest Expressions and bagged the 1st prize in both Battle of Bands and Mad Ads.

10 10 The Eternal Friend It was a bright sunny beautiful day; She lay on the lush green field and dreamt away. As the wind brushed against her cheek, as she took in the warmth of the sun; If I had a friend, she wondered, it would have been so fun. She opened her eyes, wiped the sorrow of her face, Oh! Her eyes fell on a tiny puppy tugging at her lace. With his dark brown coat, and his large blue eyes so pure; She knew he was the one, she had never felt so sure. The little guy she skipped home, her heart overjoyed; She had finally found a friend, he would surely fill the void. They rolled and played and ran, the little guy and his master; With each other, the days used to end way faster. In the mornings, he followed her to school; In the evenings, she giggled, he acted like such a fool. They grew but their friendship grew more; They really loved each other to the very core. He would protect her, he scared away the bad guys, He licked away her tears, heard her silent cries. They were best friends, their Bond so strong; Oh! Such happy days, she wished they would last forever long. And alas! One day life left the faithful dog, His eyes were cold, he lay as still as a log. Her world seemed to shatter; Did anything really matter? SCREAM When the clouds get darker, And you know something s wrong. When those very hours of the day that were filled with joy, Age into restlessness. And when the rain bursts through the clouds, Your heart skips a beat. 12 12 The Pirates It all started when my cousins came over. It was Christmas vacation. My family consisted of me, my big brother Jake (14Years), my mom and my dad. My Aunt, Uncle and my two cousins Angela (3 years old) and Noah (5 years old), had come for the vacation. I am Alex, actually Alexa. I am twelve years old and I have two dogs a beagle, Twix and a golden retriever, Oreo. One night, Jake, the dogs and I were sleeping in our room when I heard a knock. The ears of our dogs lifted, so I knew I did not imagine it. I crept out and slowly opened the door to find Noah and Angela. What happened? Come with us, they said. Jake followed us too, What the hell is happening at this time? Just come, they said sounding a little scared.we followed them into a room in my house that we have never seen before. We, including the dogs, slowly went in. There was literally nothing in that room. And then, there was a blinding flash. I opened my eyes shielding them from the hot burning sun. Wait a minute! We were at home and now we end up outside?! I sit up and see Noah and Angela stirring, Jake up and checking the island. The dogs were sniffing and licking my toes. I stood up and helped the kids. Then we followed Jake who was moving into a forest feet away from us. Stop right there!! A harsh voice called. We were surrounded by five men. They looked like Pirates. Are you from Captain Pete s team? Who is he?, Angela asked. Tie them up, Joe, I don t know whether to trust them, the leader said. Are you Pirates? Are you looking for treasure? Can we help? Noah asked excitedly. The dogs growled at them. Please sir, we mean no harm, Jake said. Yes, we are stranded on this island and we have to get home, I added. They may not mean harm, they may help us, one guy said lowering his knife. Fine Tom. I trust you, so I shall listen, the leader said. They told us about the treasure and a magic coin that would grant us three wishes. They told us about their enemy, Captain Pete and his team. We shall start searching, since we know each other, Joe said. The pirates were Joe, Tom, Harry, Daniel and the leader, Ron. We checked the map. The Pirates were confused because they could not understand it.but Jake and I found the treasure s exact location and we left towards it.the chattering noise of the Pirates echoed through the trees and we knew we had struck gold. We dug deep to find it. Excitement threatened to force my breathing into irregular gasps, but I remained controlled. The wind carried their shrill voices through the interwoven branches overhead. But the enemies were coming. We took the treasure out and were searching for the magic coin which was white in colour. Not so fast, said a voice. Pete!, growled Ron. Pete had four cronies under him. You guys find the coin, we will fight them, Ron whispered to me. Then he said strongly, Pirates charge!!! We started searching frantically while the Pirates fought. At last, Angela found the magic coin and shouted, I got it. A Pirate from Pete s team snatched it but Jake elbowed him and got it back. Stop!!, I shouted. I explained how we had to get home and it was already midnight and our parents would worry about us. I don t care if you don t give us a part of the treasure as you promised. We just need to get home. So give us one wish from the coin, please, I said. Pete and Ron felt mercy, smiled and shook hands. I shall take one wish and you shall take the other, Ron, Pete said. After saying good bye, I wished for my family, including dogs, to get home safely. - Diya DP, VII A
