We have many exciting new activities and plans for the home so let s make 2019 the best year yet! New Celebration Dining Room Our newly remodelled Family Celebration Room was unveiled just in time for the holidays. We hope that this newly improved resident and family space will bring joy to those who use it. If you would like to book the room please contact Mary Fitzgerald at extension Thanks to the tremendous generosity of the Huron Lodge Auxiliary, the Resident Services department was able to purchase an interactive life enrichment programming cart. Named icart, the touchscreen computer on wheels will be introduced into the programs that the home offers on a monthly basis. Look for icart on the upcoming monthly calendars. If you would like a demonstration please contact any Resident Services staff member.

3 Expressing Ourselves Through Poetry Rev d Andreas Thiel, Chaplain During one of the fall sessions of Coffee with the Chaplain we talked about various art forms as vehicles for self-expression. One such form is poetry. There is a style of poetry which comes from Japan, called Haiku. It follows a very simple pattern, based on numbers of syllables per line. One of the classic patterns is: first line, five syllables; second line, seven syllables; third line, five syllables. The challenge is to adhere to the syllable count while also creating poetry that has meaning and cohesion. (Try it sometime: it s not as easy as it sounds!) Here is a sampling of some Haiku poetry, created by your fellow residents of Huron Lodge: Candlelight shining Brightly in the long dark night To lead the way home. Honour thy mother Her love is never-ending God is everything. We are all friends here We live here at Huron Lodge What a hot summer! Feather on the ground Lost but found not to ignore To always admire.
