2 Huron Lodge News Municipal Election On October 22, Huron Lodge will host a polling station to allow our residents to vote in the Municipal Election. The voting station will be located in the front lounge. Cocktail Lounge Hours In October the cocktail lounge hours will be reduced to align with the current attendance at this program. The cocktail lounge will be available on Tuesdays during musical entertainment, Friday afternoons and some Saturdays. Check the calendar for a full list of times and dates that the Cocktail Lounge is available. Save the Date! Huron Lodge s third annual Children s Halloween parade will take place on Saturday October 27 th at 1:15. All children are welcome. Have your little one come dressed in costume and please bring a trick or treat bag. Meet in the auditorium for an afternoon of fun and treats. Upcoming Christmas Dinners Save the date for our upcoming annual Christmas Dinners. Each resident is able to invite two guests. Additional guests can be requested however space is limited. 3 Flu Season It s almost that time of year again when we prepare to defend ourselves against the flu!! In preparation, please make sure that you sign a 2018/19 flu consent at the nursing station in your home area. Consent is required before we are able to administer the flu shot. Telephone Changes Huron Lodge has upgraded their phone system recently. Please dial 4 before the extension you need when calling from an outside line. Home Area Phone Calls When calling to speak to a staff member on your loved ones home area please try the nursing station phones first to avoid disruption to resident care. 6 Reflection Message in a Bottle Many years ago, a woman named Dorothy was on a Hawaiian cruise. Some passengers were throwing bottles into the ocean that is, bottles with messages inside them. Dorothy decided to join in, so she took an empty bottle and placed a piece of paper with her name and address inside, along with a one dollar bill. She tightened the cap of the bottle and threw it into the water. Some three years later, the bottle was found by a Vietmanese refugee who was on a boat, on his way to Thailand. The man was thirsty, and seeing the bottle bobbing in the water, he reached for it. Instead of drinking water, he found Dorothy s original note and dollar bill, just as she had left them. When the man arrived at the refugee camp, he used the money to buy paper and stamps, and proceeded to write to the mysterious Dorothy. This led to a relationship that would deepen over several years, as the two exchanged many letters. These two people, along with their families were finally brought together for a personal meeting in Los Angeles. They all cried tears of happiness. Normally, these people would never have known each other. But because of one spontaneous act of reaching out, a message in a bottle had brought them together in a beautiful way.
