1 TO THE MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF THE MILWAUKEE LODGE WELCOME TO OUR 2014 AUTUMN SCHEDULE OF PROGRAMS WEDNESDAYS, 7:00 8:30 PM The Autumn series of presentations will feature three national speakers: Jon Knebel on the Mahatma Letters, Kurt Leland on the Chakra Systems, and James LeFevour on "The Meaning of Suffering." Local presenters include Phoenix Suvayas, Herb Heck, Sean Tsang, Uma Bagadia, and Kara Catrelle. The remaining meetings will be conducted by members of the Lodge. The Study Group will be open to the general public and will start work on a very important new book: "God, Science, & The Secret Doctrine'" by Christopher Holmes. In "The Secret Doctrine" H. P. Blavatsky states that, "Deity is in every point of the universe." Dr. Holmes book guides the reader through "The Cosmogenesis & Metaphysics of the Secret Doctrine" and "The Cosmogenesis and Physics of Modern Science." His book raises the ultimate question of the existence or non-existence of God and what we mean by that term. This book should be in every seeker's library. Copies will be available for $25.00 at the first Lodge meeting on September 3. Alternately it can be ordered from Amazon.com for slightly less. 2 Emblem of the Theosophical Society The emblem or seal of the Theosophical Society consists of seven elements that represent a unity of meaning. It combines symbols drawn from various religious traditions around the world to express the order of the universe and the spiritual unity of all life. The Sanskrit word Om, a very sacred word in India, symbolizes the Absolute expressing itself as the three-in-one divine intelligence or Logos from which the universe emanates and to which, at the end of time, it returns. A whirling cross within a circle, a very ancient symbol, found all over the world in India, among American Indians, and in many other cultures around the globe. In Sanskrit it is called a swastika, meaning good, its clockwise motion suggesting the dynamic forces of creation. This symbol was called by the ancient Greek Gnostics and alchemists ouroboros. The serpent swallowing its tail represents the cycles of nature, the bounded eternity of the world, and the infinite order of life. The area inside the serpent s circle represents the whole universe and everything in it. Upon that background of the universe are two interlaced triangles, another worldwide symbol. The hexagram or six-pointed star that they form is universal. The upward-pointing triangle, which is light in color, symbolizes spirit or consciousness. The downward-pointing triangle, which is dark in color, symbolizes matter or substance. At the center of the six-pointed star of spirit and matter is the Egyptian cross or ankh, symbolic of life. The six points of the triangles and the ankh at the center represent the seven principles of the universe. The ankh represents the idea that life results from the interaction of spirit or consciousness (the upward triangle) and matter or substance (the downward triangle). There is no religion higher than truth is an English translation of a Sanskrit motto, which might also be translated as Nothing is greater than truth. The motto is not specifically about what we think of as religion. Instead it is saying that none of our commitments or social conventions or ideas can measure up to the reality of what truly is. Reality is greater than any of its parts and is beyond all our notions about it.

3 Autumn 2014 Program Schedule September 3: Aleister Crowley, The Myth and the Man Phoenix Suvayas Once denounced as "the wickedest man in the world," Aleister Crowley delved into many unorthodox esoteric and exoteric disciplines. Phoenix opens our Fall series with a review of Crowley's philosophy and it truths and untruths. September 10: Study Group (Intro & Pages 1-14 in God, Science, and the Secret Doctrine) H.P. Blavatsky & The Secret Doctrine; Cosmic Evolution & The Seven Stanzas of Dyzan September 17: The Mahatma Letters Jon Knebel The Mahatma Letters are an interesting body of correspondence between two Mahatmas, two shadowy Masters of ancient wisdom, and a pair of Englishmen in British Colonial India, discussing the young Theosophical Society and outlining the philosophy that came to be known as Theosophy. Although the Letters were not made public at the time, the teachings were summarized in the book Esoteric Buddhism which introduced Theosophy to the western world. Jon will introduce the correspondents and outline the teachings presented in the Letters. He will also talk about the hows and whys of their study. September 24: The Ayurvedic Way Kara Catrelle Ayurveda translated means "The Science of Life." It is a holistic medical practice that has its roots in India, having been established there well over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda sees "food as medicine" and the digestive system as being the most important vehicle in the body for overall health and vitality. It views the mind, body, soul and spirit as an integrated unit of intelligence/consciousness through the examination of the 5 elements of earth, water, air, fire and ether and how these elements are functioning in the physiology. Join Master Ayurvedist Kara Catrelle as she reveals 5 easy habits you can incorporate into your life now that will heal your digestive system, restore overall balance, and empower you to listen to your bodies cues using simple self-referral mechanisms. October 1: The Chakra Systems: Eastern, Western and Leadbeater Kurt Leland Just as there are varied systems of astrology different explanations and interpretations of the chakras have been developed over the centuries. In tonight's presentation author and poet Kurt will compare and contrast the three major systems and suggest how we can evolve spiritually from them.

4 October 8: Study Group (Pages in God, Science, and the Secret Doctrine) The Problem of God s contracting universe: As posed by Dr. Carl Sagan, Paul Davies & Stephen Hawking; The Accidental and Random Universe & Evolution October 15: A Native American Drum Circle Herb Heck Herb Heck, a.k.a. "Dirty Kettle le grande bourgeois, invites us to participate in a sacred circle with drums, shakers, and prayers. Those who wish will be smudged with White Leaf Sage. October 22: The Meaning of Suffering James LeFevour What is the meaning of happiness and suffering, of health and fitness? James returns to explore these ideas from the perspective of Theosophical teachings and to discuss the life experience of a Theosophical monk and his journey towards monastic living. October 29: Self-Healing Through Acupuncture Sean Tsang Sean will discuss the body's self-healing abilities and how Acupuncture unlocks them. The opening lecture will be followed by a hands-on workshop where attendees learn the use of certain key-lock positions to help promote their health. The complete presentation will take ninety minutes. November 5: The Function and Effect of Essential Oils Uma Bagadia In her second presentation on essential oils Uma discusses how they rebalance the human constitution to promote health and well being. November 12: Study Group (Pages in God, Science, and the Secret Doctrine) The Quasi-Religious Dimensions of Modern Physics; God as Mathematician, Geometrician and Designer November 19: Karma and Thoughtforms Bob Bendykowski Bob returns to discuss how past lives can influence current incarnations and how their ill effects can be handled by a Master Healer. Other healing topics may be included in this presentation.

5 December 3: A Brief History of Buddhism Kathleen Neumam and Sumit Matugama Starting with the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in 563BC Kathleen and Sumit will trace the development of Buddhism from its inception through the development of its various traditions to its place in today's world. The "Four Noble Truths" and the "Eight-Fold Path" will be included in their remarks. December 10: Study Group (Pages in God, Science, and the Secret Doctrine) One Absolute Reality: The Fundamental Dogma of Occultism; The Stanzas of Dzyan; The Days and Nights of Brahma; Primordial Principles -- The Absolute & the Theological Trinity; The Seven-Skinned Eternal Parent Space; The Ceaseless Breath & Seven Luminous Lords the Dhyan Chohans; Dualities of Creation; Expanding and Contracting: Within-Without from the Heart; Seven Primary and Secondary Creations December 17: Open Meeting Escape the Xmas madness and bring your favorite topics for open discussion, Hopefully the weather gods will cooperate. Speakers Uma Bagadia, a certified clinical Aromatherapist, is the founder of Aroma Wellness in Brookfield. She has had more than 23 years of healthcare experience including her work as a medical technologist for major hospital systems in Wisconsin. Bob Bendykowski divided his working career between music and electronics. He is currently researching and promoting distant healing as a scientific and teachable discipline. He is a member of the Milwaukee TS Board. Kara Catrelle earned her Master's degree in social work from Loyola-Chicago and her Ayurvedic Certification from the Maharishi University of Management. She works as a psychotherapist and spiritual guide. Herb Heck is a Native American in every way except genetically. He lives, breathes, and promotes the culture and history of the earliest Americans. Jon Knebel is a retired manager in the automotive industry. He has been a student of Theosophy for over 20 years. At the Olcott headquarters, he co-facilitated, with Sy Ginsburg and David Bruce, the What Is Man? course in 2009 and led a Mahatma Letters Thursday study group from September 2011 until April Jon also serves on the board of directors of the Theosophical Order of Service..

6 James LeFevour is currently on the Board of Directors for Far Horizons, a camp created as a practical experiment in applying theosophical principles to daily life, located in Squaw Valley, CA. He holds an M. S. in Written Communication and a B. S. in Studio Art. He is a lifelong student of world religions--and graphic novels. Kurt Leland, an award winning poet, composer, and author, has been a student of Theosophy for ten years. His specialty is expanding the possibilities of consciousness. Phoenix Suvayas is a scholar of and an expert in many subjects working locally as a filmmaker, visual artist, singer-songwriter and organizer. Sean Tsang is a third generation practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Born and raised in China he studied science in Hong Kong. After completing studies at Marquette University and at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago he opened his current practice in Mequon.
