Third Sunday of Lent March 19, 2017 HOLY FAMILY PARISH ST JOSEPH CHURCH Fort Madison, IA 52627 Montrose, IA 52639 Sacred Heart Ss Mary and Joseph 508 Cedar Street 2217 Avenue I 410 11th Street HOLY FAMILY MISSION STATEMENT To celebrate, live, nurture and pass on the Catholic faith The Lenten devotions of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are very serious practices for us as we prepare to celebrate the Easter mysteries We are called by the Church to model what it means to be Catholic Christians We are called, especially during this Lenten season, to pray, fast, and give from the wealth we have, to those who need our assistance This season is not merely a season of obligation to act more intently as God calls us to act; it is a season of opportunity to practice the foundation of our faith more attentively: prayer, fasting, almsgiving How do we treat the less fortunate among us? That question should be in our minds after listening to the Gospel for today So many people in our lives are hurting and sick We might be hurting and sick too However, today s Gospel is about care for the other person We meet many people who are not like us in race or belief We are called as disciples of Christ to treat them with the same respect as those around us in church, or the same people with whom we socialize There is no difference between people in God's eyes We are called by today's Gospel to offer assistance to everyone, even the person with whom we have nothing in common ~ Liturgical Publications, Inc PASTORAL & OFFICE CONTACT INFORMATION Rev Joseph PV Phung, Pastor, phungj@diodavorg Rev Mark Spring, Parochial Vicar, springm@diodavorg Rev Mr Robert Gengenbacher, Deacon Rev Dr Ronald Stein, Deacon Rev Mr David Sallen, Deacon Sr Peggy Duffy, Min of Care, Faith Form, (319) 372-2068 Mike Linnenbrink, Youth Min Coordinator, (319) 316-2115 Anita Helling, Business Manager Danelle Peitz, Secretary Mass Times: Saturday, 4:00 pm @ Sacred Heart 5:30 pm @ St Joseph in Montrose Sunday, 8:30 am @ Sacred Heart 10:30 am @ Ss Mary and Joseph Daily, Monday @ 5:30 pm Tuesday - Friday @ 8:00 am Daily Masses alternate locations, please see pg 3 for location Wednesday, 5:30 pm @ St Joseph, Montrose Reconciliation: Saturday: 3:15 pm @ Sacred Heart Sunday: 7:45 am @ Sacred Heart 9:45 am @ Ss Mary and Joseph or by appointment with a priest Office Hours: Mon-Thurs: 8:30 am-3:00 pm Friday: 8:30 am Noon Office Phone: (319) 372-2127 Office E-Mail: fortmadholyfamily@diodavorg Office Web Page: wwwfortmadisoncatholiccommunitycom Flocknote: Flocknotecom/fmcatholic Facebook: Fort Madison Holy Family Parish FORMED: formedorg; Parish Access Code: RAXJWJ

I want to encourage them to seek alternatives to abortion, because I would never want any woman/ man to go through the grief and the pain that my birth mother went through simply because she didn t know she had any other option I also want to be a vessel to offer God s forgiveness to the men and women who have previously had abortions I know healing is possible and I have been given the gift of surviving an abortion so that I can tell these men and women that they are forgiven coming from an aborted child, I hope they know the power of forgiveness and healing through meeting me, Culwell continues My life is a testimony that there are wonderful alternatives to abortion (such as adoption in my case) and an accidental/unwanted child still deserves life even a child with disabilities, she says I was born 2 1/2 months early, weighed 3 lbs 2 oz, had dislocated hips and club feet I had to wear casts on my feet, a harness and eventually a body cast The abortion still affects me today That said, Culwell makes it clear, Life is still worth it! If my life can touch just one person who has had an abortion or considering an abortion or adoption, then I am fulfilling my purpose in the pro-life movement, she concludes ~ Claire Culwell
