2 Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time 2 September 24, 2017 Dear Friends, A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH From our earliest years, we Americans have been brought up to value justice: Play fair, be fair! That s why when we hear this Sunday s Gospel (24 th Sunday of Year A), the Parable of the Laborers in the Field, we immediately think, Well, that s just not right The men who worked all day have a good argument They should have been paid more However, the parable isn t really about who should get paid what The parable is about God It is not about the workers God is the Good Employer, the Divine Employer He offers His grace to people at various times in their lives the way He sees is best for them God s grace is amazing He gives it to each of us and wants us to share with others He wants us to use our blessings for the benefit of ourselves, for our salvation and the salvation of others We can do that in many ways We can use God s grace such as our time, talent, and treasure to show our gratitude to God and His goodness We may use our blessings to build up Christ s Body, the Church We can share our blessings with the needy around us, etc Particularly, during these months of the year, from August to October, our faith family spends a great deal of time and energy on fundraisers to support our Catholic schools and our Parish In last week s bulletin, I hope, you have found the parish financial report As I look at the report, I first thank God for all the blessings I thank God for strengthening the faith of our people who have expressed their faith through their way of life I thank God for the generosity of our people Receiving and sharing is what we must do I am, therefore, proud of and thankful to our parishioners who generously contributed their time, talents, and treasures to build our parish Such wonderful faith, hearts, and minds give us a clear and concrete sign of hope for the future of our parish May the Lord continue to bless you, your families, and our faith community COME AND MEET JESUS IN EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Jesus wants to spent time with you Holy Family Parish is in need of someone to spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament from 6:00-7:00 pm when Adoration is at Ss Mary and Joseph Church Prayerfully consider spending this hour with Jesus If you are called by God to spend this hour with his son, Jesus, please call Vicki at SPARKING THE SPIRIT: From Top Model to Role Model Sparking the Spirit is an event you are familiar with from the past This year, Leah Darrow will be speaking about her witness of faith in a fast-paced world Leah Darrow was a former contestant on America s Next Top Model and a model from New York City, now a Catholic speaker, author, blogger, podcaster, Instagram-er and more! Learn about Leah s story of faith and about being a joyful Catholic in our modern world Sparking the Spirit is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25th at St Vincent School, 2981 Plank Rd; Keokuk Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the program beginning at 6:30 pm Light refreshments are included This event is free and open to everyone! VESPERS Holy Family Parish will be hosting a deanery-wide time of prayer (Vespers) and fellowship, with Bishop Zinkula, the new Shepherd for the Diocese of Davenport Vespers will be on Monday, October 16th at 5:30 pm at Ss Mary and Joseph Church A light reception will follow at McAleer Hall The daily Mass for 6th will be moved to 8:00 am MASS CHANGE The 4:00 pm Saturday evening Mass will switch to Sacred Heart Church next Saturday, September 30th
