2 The Ascension of the Lord 2 May 13, 2018 Dear Friends, A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH In communion with the universal Church, this weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord There are two practical applications in our lives of faith First, the Ascension of the Lord asserts that the risen Christ is now with God and rules over the whole of His creation The feast reveals to us that, as today s Opening Prayer means, Where the Head has gone before in glory, the Body is called to follow in hope The ascended Lord has not abandoned us, but is still with us to the end of the earth Secondly, the ascended Lord sends us out on a mission to preach and practice the Gospel He tells the apostles, and each one of us, not to escape the world, but to care for God s creation and His people, especially the poor and those in need The gospel describes how Jesus ascended to heaven after giving His final blessing and missionary command to His disciples, that is, to proclaim the good news to every creature (Mark 16:15), to be his witnesses" (Acts 1: 8), and to make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19) What should we do to continue Jesus mission? This we all must know: as Christians and as Jesus followers, we are to deepen our faith in the Lord Personal faith with Jesus is the first and foremost requirement of the life of discipleship With a strong faith in Jesus, we will follow His life, example, and His teachings in the Gospels To have a strong faith in Jesus, prayer life is needed The more we spend time with Him, the more we know Him The more we know Him, the more we want to live as He lived and love as He has loved us In the month of May, as the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary, we come to our Mother and ask her to help us to love and serve God as she did May the Blessed Mother also pray and intercede for all of our mothers, grandmothers, and expectant mothers, especially during this Mother s Day Peace, Joy, and Service in the Risen Lord Please welcome our newest member, Elaina Caudillo, who was baptized last Saturday by Fr Joseph Pictured with Elaina are her parents: Juan and Brittany on the right; and her godparents: Raul and Cheyenne on the left Happy Mother s Day to all women who are physical, spiritual, and/or emotional mothers Because of you, the world is a better place MARK FORREST Mark Forrest, Irish Tenor, will be with us at Sacred Heart Church this Monday, May 14th at 7:00 pm The Come Walk With Me evening is a time for us to reflect on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ During the evening, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, and you ll be taken through an evening of music, reflection, and healing Consider taking an hour with the Lord as He invites you to a closer walk with Him This event is free and open to everyone RECTORY OPEN HOUSE On May 19th and 20th, after the 4:00 pm AND 10:30 AM Masses, there will be an Open House at the rectory All parishioners are invited to stop by and see the newly refinished wood floors, as well as just take a tour of the house The Open House will last a couple of hours after each Mass MINISTRIES TRAINING What could you do to show love to your faith family? You are invited to participate in the ministries of reading and giving Holy Communion at Holy Mass Serving God in these ministries should be considered the highest privilege in life Our trainings will take place next Saturday, May 19th, at Ss Mary and Joseph Church; Lectors at 9:30 AM and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) at 10:00 AM Our young people, especially those who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation, are encouraged to join these ministries
