2 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe 2 November 25, 2018 CHRIST THE KING "Hail the King of the Jews" The kingship of Christ has always been different than the world expected Many of Jesus' disciples hoped for an earthly Messiah who would overthrow the Romans But, as Jesus says in today's Gospel, his kingdom is "not of this world" Yet it is a very real kingdom Jesus is a very real Lord We are called to invite Jesus to be king of our lives In the early 20th century, disillusionment with authority of all kinds was growing Revolutions, atheistic thinkers, and World War I contributed to a rejection of faith In 1925, Pope Pius XI called the Church and the world back to a sense of hope in Christ He instituted the solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday before Advent How is Jesus king of your life today? HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Your local Catholic radio, KDME 983 FM, will be celebrating their 15th anniversary of being on the air As part of this celebration, there will be a spaghetti dinner, cake, games, and a special speaker next Saturday, December 1st, at Roling Hall, following the 4:00 pm Mass Everyone is invited to come and share in the celebration! Pictured is Joe Peitz, KDME Board President, receiving a 15th Anniversary award from EWTN s CEO, Mike Warsaw Joe, along with Mike Panther and Fr Hoffman, KDME Radio Board members, attended the annual EWTN Radio Conference in Alabama earlier this month ~ LPI ADVENT SEASON Next Sunday begins the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "advenire" in Latin or "to come to") It is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord s birth on Christmas The final days of Advent, from December 17th to 4th, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas) Advent devotions, including the Advent wreath, remind us of the meaning of the season With the First Sunday of Advent, the Church moves to Cycle C of the Liturgical Calendar CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS/ FLOWERS If you would like to donate toward Christmas decorations or poinsettias, please put your donation in an envelope and drop it in the collection basket If you would like to remember or honor a loved one with a poinsettia, please include their name with the donation ADVENT REFLECTIONS The Little Blue Book of Advent Reflections are available in the back of Church Please stop by and pick up a copy today The reflections begin on the first Sunday of Advent, next Sunday, nd

5 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe 5 November 25, 2018 PRISON MINISTRY About 18 months ago, Holy Family Parish s Social Action Committee asked for donations of jigsaw puzzles to give to the inmates at the prison The one above, an 18,000 piece puzzle, was donated by a parishioner Each panel was packaged in a separate 4,500 piece bag To clear security, however, the bags were opened and dumped together Because the same die-cut was used on all four panels, the pieces were interchangeable between the four panels It has now been completely put together and measures 6 x 9 Good work! Our Social Action Committee is once again asking for donations of jigsaw puzzles If you have any to donate, please drop them off at the parish office If they have been opened, only donate those that you KNOW are all there Very disappointing if you get the puzzle together and realize you only have 17,999 (not the case here) DIVINE MERCY BOOKSTORE HOURS Saturdays & Sundays 9:00 am - 12:30 pm CATHOLIC RADIO STATION To learn more about your Catholic faith, tune into KDME, 983 FM in Fort Madison and 977 FM in outlying areas These stations are your Truth and Life Catholic radio stations ARE YOU A SNOWBIRD?
