2 Nineteenth Sunday 2 August 13, 2017 Dear Friends, A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH The message of the Nineteenth Sunday Cycle A - tells us that the Lord comes to us in many different ways and that we are to open our hearts and minds to welcome Him; so that we won t miss those precious times In the first reading, from the First Book of Kings, Elijah climbed Mount Horeb where he was to present himself before the Lord Remember that at this moment of his life, Elijah was dealing with Queen Jezebel s threat of death Elijah was disappointed, upset, and angry at God for he has worked for God and now enduring this consequence Elijah expected the Lord to appear to him in awesome ways But finally he experienced the presence of the Lord in a whispering sound To see God, Elijah settled himself down; he let go of his own expectations, and he let God speak to Him as God chose to speak to Him In the Gospel reading, the disciples experienced the appearance of God s power more like Elijah expected and certainly beyond their own imagination Jesus came to them when they were facing a severe storm; they were afraid and thought He was a ghost When Jesus got into the boat after fishing Peter out of the water, the wind calmed down The disciples realized that they were in the presence of the Almighty and worshiped Jesus, Truly you are the Son of God As a community of faith, we are invited to journey together and help one another to find God and His presence I ask you to continue to pray for our parish and help to build our faith family May the Lord continue to bless us and make us His disciples in loving God, loving others, and building God s kingdom on earth Peace in the Lord YOUTH MINISTRY is a relationship, not a program is about discipleship, connections, and growth is flexible, adaptable, family-friendly, developmentally appropriate, intergenerational and involves leadership and community collaboration includes prayer and worship, advocacy, catechesis, evangelization, pastoral care, community life, leadership development, and justice service happens with and through the youth, parish, family, and community takes place in gathered and non-gathered settings EFFECTIVE PRACTICES are supported and understood by the parish community respond to the real lives, needs, and interests of youth are marked by generous hospitality and intentional relationship building have a variety of ways for youth and their families to be involved have youth active in making youth ministry happen ELEMENTS FOR EFFECTIVE YOUTH MINISTRY INCLUDES: a regular pattern of gathering special events intentional catechesis ways to grow deeper youth connected to their parish youth connected with families youth involved in leadership, ministry, and service HIGH IMPACT PROGRAMS INCLUDE faith formation extended trips, camps, national conferences, and World Youth Day participation in the liturgy that engages the whole person youth retreats service experiences If you don t know where you re heading, you won t know which way to go ~ Seneca

SYMPATHY Holy Family Parish would like to extend our sympathy to Marietta Pranger on the death of her sister, Beulah Kovac May her soul rest in peace CONGRATULATIONS! Holy Family Parish would like to congratulate Bill and Janice Abel on their 50th wedding anniversary We pray they have many more blessed years of Christ-centered marriage ST DOMINIQUE, THE HOUND OF HEAVEN Why is he the Hound of the Hounds?
