FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners, It s hard to believe it, but in a few days we will be ringing in the New Year! The New Year is symbolic of new beginnings. It is a time when many people make resolutions to make positive changes in their lives. The New Year is like a fresh start, a chance to leave behind vices and cultivate virtues. It is a wonderful time, also, to think about how we relate to family members and how we might improve and strengthen our bonds with them. During the Christmas Season, we spend a lot of our energy and attention on the family. We spend a lot of time looking for the right gift for each family member. We look forward to having the whole family gathered around the table for Christmas dinner. We spend hours on the phone reconnecting with family members who are far from home. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. It is a day in which we honor the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, who model for us the virtues of family life patience, understanding, compassion, obedience, perseverance, love, and faithfulness. As we begin a New Year, let s put those virtues into practice at home. May the Holy Family be our model and guide in 2015. May God grant us all a Happy New Year! God s Blessings, Fr. CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS NEWS Twenty-three Catholic daughters welcomed a new member to our December meeting. We are sponsoring the meals for the Walworth County Men s Shelter on Dec. 22, Jan. 12 and Feb. 23. We presented the parish with a gift of dish towels for the kitchen. Father Jim gave a Synod Declaration presentation. Our next meeting will be Jan. 18 in the parish center after the 7:30 a.m. Mass. Please join us! Please call (262) 723-4929 with any questions. THANK YOU Dear Folks, Thank you so much for all the lovely and warm coats, jackets, hats, mittens and blankets that you folks collected for our mission. They have been greatly appreciated. Thanks also to the gentlemen and ladies who have delivered them. With affection and gratitude, Carolyn Kalb and the volunteers of the Clothes Closet of the United Methodist Church of Lake Geneva CELL PHONE COLLECTION The Knights of Columbus have placed a cell phone recycling box in the parish library to raise funds for Wisconsin Special Olympics. Thank you for thinking of this fundraiser whenever you are ready to toss out your cell phone. WANTED: A FEW GOOD MEN Walworth County Men s Shelter will be at the Chapel on the Hill for one week in January, as well as a week in February. St. Francis de Sales partners with the Chapel on the Hill to provide several suppers, groceries and overnight chaperones. What a wonderful way to start out the new year by offering shelter to those without a home of their own. Could several men of the parish cover one night as chaperones together? That s the greatest need. The chaperones sleep in a separate room. A chaperone partner will be provided if needed. Please give this prayerful thought. Interested? Call the Chapel on the Hill at (262) 245-9122. Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, you do unto Me. We will begin meeting again on Jan. 14 at 11:15 a.m. LAKELAND NURSING HOME SCHEDULES New Lakeland Nursing Home Communion schedules are available in the in the chapel entrance folder. 2014 SFDS PARISH CENSUS We re taking a parish-wide census to update our database. HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS There are envelopes at the entrances to the church as well as in the office for special giving for Christmas. All donations are kept local to help out our local citizens in need. May God Bless You for your continued generosity. Human Concerns Committee ANGEL FUND St. Francis de Sales Parish School is benefited by the Angel Fund. This is a designated fund that was started to help families of our day school program who are in need of tuition assistance. It is funded by donations from generous parishioners and by bequests. If a school family is in need of tuition assistance, they apply to a company called TADS. This application can be done either online or on paper, and it is completely confidential. Applications are available in either the school or parish offices. TADS make a financial determination as to how much tuition the family can be expected to pay. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please use the pink envelopes in your packets, or earmark your check or cash for the Angel Fund. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

SFDS YEAR-END SUMMARY 2014 was a year of change for St. Francis de Sales Parish. Fr. James Schuerman became our fulltime pastor after wrapping up his shared duties at St. Francis and St. Andrew Parishes. (Save the date of Feb. 7, 2015, for his installation Mass!) We are so grateful for Fr. Jim s leadership and for his compassion for all people. His ability to speak Spanish fluently has been a blessing to our Hispanic Community, which continues to grow. We welcomed three new staff members: Michael Deane, Director of Liturgy and Music; Eric Gallagher, Parish School Principal; and Katie Ploch, Director of Religious Education. Rooted in faith, they are all bringing new energy and ideas, working above and beyond to bring excellence to their programs. Meanwhile, our veteran Parish Secretary, Judie Weeks, has been cheerfully guiding, training and easing the transitions. Our Seminarian Intern, John Baumgardner, is currently studying in Rome and will be back again next summer. Fr. Tom Fait, our Weekend Presider, continues to inspire us with his amazing homilies and his extensive knowledge of Catholic history. SFDS is so fortunate to have such a talented staff that is passionate in the vision of the future of our parish! With change comes growth, and 2014 was certainly a busy year for St. Francis de Sales Parish. A total of 52 babies were baptized, 21 wedding ceremonies united couples in marriage, 29 young adults were confirmed, 57 children received their First Communion, countless confessions were heard and eight Hispanic girls upheld the tradition of the quinceañera. Many of the sick (almost 60 people) were anointed, and 20 families were comforted in their grieving as they memorialized a loved one. On Holy Saturday, four new members were welcomed into the Catholic Faith. Our many ministries are expanding and flourishing with more than 500 volunteers. Our school is vibrant with 174 students from 3-year-old preschool through 8 th grade, and 239 students learn more about their faith each week through the outreach of our Religious Education and Youth Ministry programs. What does all of this mean? This is an exciting time for St. Francis de Sales Parish! There is renewed energy and enthusiasm, and daily episodes of empathy and kindness. I hope that you feel it too! Please help to keep this momentum going by remembering SFDS in your prayers and in your year-end giving. Our church needs your financial help to run the buildings, provide for our staff members and fund our programs. Your generosity will help St. Francis de Sales continue to grow and to help people in our parish and in our community. If you have any questions regarding your year-end contribution, please feel free to call the parish office at (262) 248-8524. Thank you for your support...it simply couldn t be done without you!
