We are gifted to build bonds among ourselves and others in order to live the Gospel in word, worship, community and service for the salvation of all and the building of God s kingdom. Today s gospel is the story of a blind beggar. Although he could not see Jesus, he made contact with him through his sense of hearing. His finely tuned hearing to the presence of Jesus led him to using another sense to make contact with Jesus, his sense of speech. He cried out, Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me. Even when people around Jesus, including perhaps some of Jesus disciples, told him to keep quiet, he shouted all the louder, Son of David, have pity on me. Even though he could not see Jesus, he was determined to make contact with him through his gift of speech, through his urgent prayer from his heart. His prayer was an act of faith on his part. He recognized Jesus as Son of David which was one of the titles for the Messiah, and trusting that Jesus could heal his blindness. His making contact through his hearing and his speaking revealed that he had an inner sight. Even though he was blind, he saw Jesus with the eyes of faith. Even when he was rebuked by the crowd for confessing his faith out loud, he refused to be silenced. He had the courage to keep professing his faith, in spite of the hostility and scorn it brought upon him. Jesus response to the heartfelt prayers of this man was in complete contrast to that of the people around him. Rather than telling him to keep quiet, Jesus told those around him to call him over. When he heard that Jesus was calling him, he first of all threw off his cloak. His cloak, no doubt, served many purposes. It sheltered him from the weather; it was his bed; it was in a sense his home. Yet, he abandoned it, and having done so, he jumped up and went unerringly to Jesus in his blindness. Nothing was going to hold him back from connecting with Jesus, not even his precious cloak. He speaks to all of us of our own need to free ourselves of the binds that stifle our faith and keep us from approaching the Lord

4 NITE AT THE RACES AND BASKET RAFFLE All Saints Parish will hold our annual Nite at the Races on Saturday, November 3 rd, at Holy Child Faith Formation Center. Doors open at 6:30 PM, post time is 7:00 PM. Tickets are available in the ramp area of the church and also at the rectory. Horse sponsorship tickets will be $10.00 and include admission and naming of your horse. General admission without horse sponsorship will be $5.00. We are also looking for individuals or businesses who would like to sponsor a race for $ Race sponsorship will include one free horse sponsorship and 4 free general admission tickets. Also, sponsorship will include a reserved table. We will also publish a list of race sponsors in the Sunday bulletin. 5 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We are looking for people who would like to volunteer to help out for the Nite at the Races to be held on Saturday, November 3 rd. We need people who would be available to help work the kitchen for an hour or two and also people who would like to work the betting windows for a few races. MASS OF REMEMBRANCE Our annual Mass of Remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, November 3 rd, 10:00 AM. Please join us for this spiritual celebration for our departed loved ones. SPIRITUAL BOUQUETS Spiritual Bouquets can be offered in memory of your loved ones for All Souls Day. spiritual Bouquet envelopes will be placed on the altar and those mentioned will be specially remembered throughout the month of November. PARISH MINISTRY FILL THE CRIB The Social Concerns Committee is sponsoring a Fill the Crib collection for the Pro- Life Center in Wilkes-Barre during the month of October. There is a need for diapers sizes 1 & 2; and boys clothing - size 6 to 9 months. Other items are also appreciated such as receiving blankets, sleepers, onesies, etc. There will be a crib in the ramp area for your donations from October 6 th through October 28 th. 6 CHRISTIAN SERVICE CENTER Next food distribution, Thursday, December 20 th, 9am 11am. The Christian Service Center is in dire need of canned fruit, dried pasta, peanut butter, jelly, cereals & juices. CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE / PARISHIONERS IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE The Social Concerns Committee would like t help our parishioners that have children, and are in need of assistance this Christmas season. The children must be under the age of 18. There are forms available for pick up at the parish office. They will have to be filled out with the child s name and requested Christmas items. The forms must be returned to the parish office no later than Wednesday, November 14 th. Any forms returned after November 14 th will not be eligible for this year. MINISTRY OF PRAYER Please always remember to pray for those in our nation s military; for firefighters, police and EMT s. 7 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: Adult preparation for the Sacrament of Initiation. If you know of anyone who might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic Faith, call the parish office or Maureen Dillon at (570) Classes are generally held on Sunday mornings after the 8:30 AM Mass. Baptism of Infants: Parents requesting Baptism for their children should make an appointment with the Pastor to begin the process. Also, parents seeking Baptism must attend a Baptism preparation class prior to their child s Baptism. Catholic Marriage: Diocesan Policy states that those considering celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage must meet with the pastor at least six months before any desired wedding date. Please call the office to schedule an appointment with the Pastor. Communion for the Homebound: Homebound parishioners who wish to receive Holy Communion please call the office at Hospital Visitation: Please notify the Parish Office if you or a loved one is hospitalized as the hospital no longer notifies the parish. If a patient would like to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation or Anointing of the Sick or if he or she would just like a visit, please call the office to make arrangements. 9 DID YOU KNOW November 1, 2018 is ALL SAINTS PARISH 12 th anniversary DID YOU KNOW that when we combined the three churches of Plymouth into one parish, we took elements from each building and used them to form the new parish church. Our high altar was disassembled at St. Vincent s Church and piece-by-piece was re-built in the new church on Willow Street, along with the altar and ambo (lecture stand). The statue of St. Patrick was also used in the main church area. Also making the trip to Willow Street from St. Vincent s Church were the church doors that were placed in our downstairs chapel, along with other elements. The statue of the risen Christ that hangs suspended above our tabernacle came from the church of St. Stephen s. The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph statues that are placed in the front of All Saints Parish, and the Stations of the Cross that are hanging on the sides of the main church area also came from St. Stephen s. The pews that are in the chapel, the crucifix and tabernacle are also from St. Stephen s. The building that houses All Saints Parish was/is St. Mary s Church and includes the original paintings on the ceiling that were re-touched in the church s renovation. Also, the stained-glass windows were part of St. Mary s and were produced in Austria almost 100 years ago. The wood carvings at the front of the church, along with the baptismal font and the pipe organ were all part of the old St. Mary s Church. The original altar was moved downstairs into the chapel. We are three churches that came together to form the one vibrant parish that we are today!
