We are gifted to build bonds among ourselves and others in order to live the Gospel in word, worship, community and service for the salvation of all and the building of God s kingdom. Seeing the hungry crowd and the scarce number of loaves, Jesus was aware of the enormity of the task of feeding them all. But he did not share the apostles sense of defeatism. He saw that in some way the small boy with the five barley loaves and two fish was the key to feeding five thousand people. We cannot imagine what exactly happened on that day out in the wilderness but it is clear that the small boy with his few barley loaves and a couple of fish played a vital role. It was just enough food for a simple meal for a poor family. Yet the boy was willing to part with his barley loaves and his fish. When he handed them over, in some mysterious way, Jesus was able to work with the young boy s generous gift to feed everyone. One generous boy was the key to feeding the multitude. One person s generosity gave Jesus the opening that he needed. Through small and willing gifts, something powerful can still happen, in our time. Clearly this story spoke very powerfully to the early church. The early believers came to appreciate that the Lord can use our limited efforts to perform his greatest works. As Paul puts it: God s power is often made perfect in our weakness.

3 PARISH EVENTS CATECHISM STUDY GROUP The Catholic Catechism study group will NOT be held during the Summer. Please watch the bulletin in August for the next session. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION PLEASE NOTE: Eucharistic Adoration WILL NOT be held on August 1 st, 8 th and 15 th. Adoration will resume on Wednesday, August 22 nd, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If you are able to schedule a time, please call Joan Kaye at PARISH LOTTERY Tickets for our new Lottery, which will begin on August 15 th, are now available. Tickets can be purchased at the parish office or in Church before and after Masses. Support your parish by purchasing a ticket. Thank you! SCHEDULING MASSES FOR THE YEAR 2019 We are now accepting Mass intention for We would like to review our Mass scheduling policy. Presently, we will be scheduling Mass intentions for the entire year. Mass availability is on a first-come, first serve basis. We have only two Mass intentions per weekend available, one weekend Mass must be said for the intention of the parishioners. In order to give as many families as possible the opportunity to have a Mass, only one weekend Mass intention per family can be scheduled per year. There is no limit to the number of Mass intentions per family scheduled for daily Masses. If you have any questions, please call the parish office at Thank you. SCHEDULE YOUR PHOTO FOR OUR PARISH DIRECTORY Sign up sheets for the photo directory are available on the ramp area starting this weekend. Be sure to pick up your registration packet after you sign up. Photographers will be here on the following days: July 31, August 1,2,3,4,6,7,8 (session hours during weekdays are 2:00 PM through 9:00 PM; and on Saturdays will be from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. All photography sessions will be held in the church basement/chapel. 5 ALTAR SERVERS Anyone wishing to become an altar server can call Ed Bozek at or the parish office. SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAM The Social Concerns Committee of All Saints Parish will be sponsoring a School Supply Program. This program will be opened to families that are struggling financially, not only in our parish but from within our local communities. This program will be opened to children from Kindergarten through Grade 6. Our goal is to supply each child with a new backpack which will be filled with necessary school supplies. Our committee will supply the backpacks and we will be asking our parishioners to help by purchasing school items from the itemized list below. All school items purchased can then be dropped off in the ramp area of the church before all the weekend masses during the month of JULY. There will be a designated container set up in the ramp area for the donated items. During the summer, your parish provides activities and services that keep our community together. Unfortunately, church expenses continue but collection sometimes dwindle during summer. We wish you a safe, enjoyable summer and we remind you to plan ahead to use your weekly Offering Envelopes every week, even for the weeks you aren t here! Thank you!!! DIOCESAN EVENTS SCRANTON CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC CONFERENCE The Scranton Catholic charismatic renewal is sponsoring its 36 th annual conference at the University of Scranton during the weekend of August 3 rd August 5 th. This year s theme is He restores my soul! The Conference will feature inspiring speakers and uplifting music, Mass is celebrated each afternoon. A well-stocked book/gift store will be available. Separate tracks for Children and Youth are also available. The full-weekend Registration Fee is $50 up to and including July 23 rd and $65 after July 23 rd. Single-day registration is also available on-site. Commuting and brown-bagging is encouraged, while dormitory housing and cafeteria meals are available at a moderate cost. 6 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: Adult preparation for the Sacrament of Initiation. If you know of anyone who might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic Faith, call the parish office or Maureen Dillon at (570) Classes are generally held on Sunday mornings after the 8:30 AM Mass. Baptism of Infants: Parents requesting Baptism for their children should make an appointment with the Pastor to begin the process. Also, parents seeking Baptism must attend a Baptism preparation class prior to their child s Baptism. Catholic Marriage: Diocesan Policy states that those considering celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage must meet with the pastor at least six months before any desired wedding date. Please call the office to schedule an appointment with the Pastor. Communion for the Homebound: Homebound parishioners who wish to receive Holy Communion please call the office at Hospital Visitation: Please notify the Parish Office if you or a loved one is hospitalized as the hospital no longer notifies the parish. If a patient would like to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation or Anointing of the Sick or if he or she would just like a visit, please call the office to make arrangements.
