1 Message From The Master Brethren, If you attended our August Stated communication at the Masonic Home of Virginia you experienced a great evening. We had a total of 60 present including many visitors from other Lodges and three past Grand Masters. MW Jeffrey Eugene Hodges presented a dramatic program portraying Captain Alexander Gulick Babcock and told the story of his background and the founding of the Masonic Home of Virginia. Special thanks to Wor Wayne Donahoe, our DMHA, for making all of the arrangements for that meeting including MW Hodges program. We also elected a new Master Mason into our Lodge, Bro Nick Crowe. So join me in welcoming Bro Crowe into our Lodge. Our membership now stands at 93 members. Chickahominy Lodge No. 286 A.F. & A. M. Chartered February 16, 1905 Trestleboard September, 2015 As summer draws to a close and we approach Labor Day I hope you all had an enjoyable summer with lots of fun with family and friends. We have seen a lot of our family this summer. Our oldest granddaughter (8) played softball for the first time this year and we got to see several of her games. I was amazed at how well she played for someone who had not played before this year. We also kept our two youngest granddaughters (5 & 3) a couple of times for our son and daughter-in-law. In addition we all were at the beach together for a week in August and had a great time. Plus there were times when we got together with friends for some fun time which we thoroughly enjoyed. But it is time to get ready for a busy September. Our September stated communication (summer casual dress) will be jam packed with activity. We may have a presentation of some memorabilia and a presentation by the DeMolay before the meeting. During the meeting we will present 25 Year Veteran s emblems to two of our Brothers, have a program on the Shrine Club by Brother Gary Palmer and RW Cleve Wright will provide a program on the Blood Drive. There may also be some other presentations. So I hope each of you will make an effort to attend this stated communication. P.O. We also have our September breakfast on Saturday, September 12 th followed by our visit to Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 for their Table Lodge that same day. The next Blood Drive is September 17 th at Stonehouse Presbyterian Church. Then on Friday, September 18 th we have our semiannual Spaghetti Dinner from 5:30 8:00 p. m. Bro Al Bills is distributing tickets for this event and there are flyers in the dining hall. Please see Bro Bills to get your tickets and then sell them to your friends. This is a big fund raiser for us and we need every Brother to participate. We also ask the you or your wife prepare desserts packaged in single servings (Continued on next page) Page 1 of 6

2 which we will sell for $1.00 each. Message From The Master cont d The Chickahominy Roadrunner s 2015 schedule is available on page 3. It is also on our Website. Five Brothers traveled to Midlothian Lodge No. 211 on August 5 th and enjoyed a delicious meal and fun time with the brethren there in their beautiful Lodge. I was unable to attend due to our family vacation on the OBX but I plan to visit Midlothian Lodge later this year. Our next visit will be to Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 for their Table Lodge on September 12 th. Reservations are required for that Lodge and it is too late to add people to the list. I will be placing a new order for Lodge shirts following our September stated communication and will have a form at that meeting. If you want to order a Lodge shirt please let me know. They come in royal blue, white, red and black and are $29.50 for sizes S through XL. XXL shirts are $3.00 more and it usually takes about three weeks to receive the shirts after placing the order. We could use some more catechism coaches and we need more Brothers to learn degree parts, particularly Master Mason part II parts. So if you would like to assist coaching catechisms or increase your knowledge of degree parts in the lodge please let me know and we will find someone to get you up to speed if you need it. Wor Ted Holm s Wardens Class on Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00 p. m. is an excellent opportunity for you to learn degree parts and to actually participate in degree work in a practice environment. All Master Masons are welcome to come to Wor Ted s class. The more Brothers who know these parts the better because you could be called on to fill a part if other Brothers are unavailable. Plus it increases your Masonic knowledge. We have created a kitchen cleanup crew to wash and dry the cooking pots and pans and put them away after our monthly breakfasts. If you are looking for some way to contribute your talents to the Lodge and can help with this duty on the second Saturday of the month we can sure put you to work. Finally Brethren, if you have not been to lodge recently we would like for you to come back to your Lodge and experience the food, friendship and brotherly love we all enjoy. 4 SPECIAL NOTICES & ANNOUNCEMENTS Second invoices for 2015 dues were mailed June 5 th. As of this date there are still nine (9) Brothers who have not paid their dues. If you have not already done so Brethren please send in your dues payment. Sending follow-up dues notices is additional, unnecessary work for our Secretary so please send in your dues payment. We should not have to and do not want to have to constantly remind Lodge Brothers to pay their dues. It is your Masonic duty to pay your dues. I would like to be able to report that all Brethren have paid their dues for the year. If you are in dire financial straits and have difficulty paying your dues contact Wor Bo Bohannon. The Stated Dinner sign-up sheet has is now completely full. Thank you to all the Brethren and their wives for agreeing to prepare a meal for our stated meetings this year. They have all been delicious All petitioners must receive a background check before they can be balloted on. Cost for this check is $20.00 in addition to the Petition fee of $50.00 and a Disclosure and Consent form must be completed by the petitioner in addition to the Petition. Our LIW, Wor Ted Holm is continuing a Warden s Certificate class on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 5:00 p. m. This class is for those who are close to moving into the East but any Master Masons can attend. We are grateful to have Wor Ted in our Lodge and grateful for his enthusiasm for teaching our members their catechisms and our officers their parts. Page 4 of 6
