2 146 th Annual Installation of Officers Saturday, January 14 th at 2:14 pm RSVP by January 5 th at or call ATTIRE: Lodge Shirts or Casual Channel Islands Lodge Sweethearts Dinner, Thursday, February 2 nd The 2017 Lodge recognition of our Sweethearts will be Thursday February 2 nd at 6:33 PM. At this dinner, we will recognize those persons without whose support and understanding the Lodge could not function; our wives, widows, sweethearts, significant others and partners. Widows of Brothers will be our guests for dinner while all others the cost is $15 per person and reservations are required. Please designate how many widows will be attending with you. Coming soon - Make your reservations on the Lodge Website Channel Islands Lodge Annual Roll Call and Dinner, Thursday, February 23 rd. The 2017 Annual Roll Call Meeting and Dinner will be Thursday, February 23 rd with Dinner starting at 6:33 PM. All Members of Channel Islands Lodge are encouraged to attend. Family certainly may attend the dinner but not the meeting as it is a Tiled Meeting. The dinner menu will be: Bar-B-Que chicken, Tri-tip, Mashed Potatoes, Salad and Dessert catered by the Stone Fire Grill. Cost will be $15 per person and reservations are required. After dinner, the Brethren will retire to the lodge room for the Annual Roll Call. The meeting will be opened on the 1 st degree therefore all members are welcome to attend. However, only Master Masons will answer the Roll Call. The Annual Roll Call is always a well attended and fun event where Brethren get to reconnect with some they have not seen in a while. Please contact any Master Masons you know and remind them of the Roll Call or at least you might be able to answer the Roll Call for them. Coming soon - Make your reservations on the Lodge Website Brethren, Our menu for the January Stated Meeting Dinner will be: Italian Vinaigrette Dressing Salad, Meat Lasagna, Garlic Cheese Bread, Frosted Cake Reservations are required and must be paid for if you attend the dinner or not. Reservations must be made by Noon on the Wednesday before the Stated Meeting. To cancel or change your Reservation please contact the Junior Warden by Noon on the Wednesday before the Stated Meeting. There are 2 easy ways to make a reservation. 1. On the Lodge Web Site (ChannelIslandsLodge214.org) on the "Dinner Reservations" page. Be sure to indicate the type and number of meals you would like. 2. Call the Lodge Phone (805) and leave your name and the number and type of meals you would like.

3 News on the Square Brethren, As I write this we are going into the holiday season and have just been through an election. All elections are traumatic the very nature of dividing ourselves into two camps and debating policy for a year leaves emotions raw and this year has been no exception. What I would hope for us our lodge and Masons in general is that we now exercise that most Masonic of virtues, Brotherly Love. If we do so, I am convinced we can make not just the holiday season but also 2017 a time of spiritual rejuvenation and make us, as Masons, beacons of brotherhood. S&F, Michael Blodgett, Master From the West, Corn-Wine-Oil* What are the Masonic symbolisms associated with corn, wine and oil? In our ritual we are told about the corn of nourishment, the wine of refreshment and the oil of joy; what does this mean? Corn is the easy one; it is the corn of nourishment. Wine, by tradition, is served at celebrations, therefore it represents refreshment and marks important events. Oil, it is said, can be spread on troubled waters to calm them and thus allow peace and joy to prevail. In dedications it is believed that these symbols will bring plenty, a smooth path and happiness to those who make use of the Masonically dedicated structures. However, there may be other meanings: corn, which grows quickly and freely, can represent the individual Mason as he matures, learns and reflects in Masonry. The wine of refreshment can also be seen as the new and varied teachings of Masonry which bring new and refreshing meanings to him. The oil of joy represents the peacefulness which surrounds the brother Mason when he endeavors to live by and apply the teachings of Masonry: brotherly love, relief and truth, temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice, and that foremost Masonic virtue, that I would do unto him as I would have him do unto me. *Paraphrased and taken from several sources S&F, Gary Adkinson, SW

4 From the South, Brethren, We are starting a new year and have lots of degrees and fun events ahead of us. We are looking forward to planning a Table Lodge and making it an annual event. A Table Lodge is a tiled meeting over a meal. There are 7 courses and toasts that are mandatory during the meal. This will bring us together as a Lodge and teach Brothers how Lodges were when they met in pubs and restaurants. Please keep in mind you must be a Entered Apprentice to attend. I would like to thank Worshipful Michael Blodgett for his year as Master and leading our lodge in the right direction. Fraternally, Ryan Phillips, Junior Warden Mario U. Apacio Jr. Channel Islands Lodge Newest Master Mason. Many of us, already know our newest Master Mason, Brother Mario Apacio. He was Initiated on March 24, Passed on Sept. 8, and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on Nov. 17, Brother Mario thanked his Candidates Coach, Worshipful Kirt Wilson for the long hours and work in getting him ready for this day. Brother Gary Adkinson, sitting as Master and MEKS, conferred the degree and gave the lecture. Brother Ryan Phillips sat as Senior Warden and HKofT, Brother BJ Blossomgame was Senior Deacon in the first section while Worshipful David VadBunker was Senior Deacon in the 2 nd section and gave the charge. Worshipful Dee Matson presented the Master Masons Bible and red socks. Worshipful Kirt Wilson sitting as Secretary presented several study books and manuals and the new Trowel Plaque. Present was Worshipful David Lieberthal, Inspector of the 548 th Masonic District.

On some occasions, he rode the bus from his home to the downtown area. On one such trip and when he sat down, he discovered the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it." Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter; who would worry about this little amount." Anyway, the transit company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet. When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change." The driver with a smile replied, " I noticed your Masonic ring and lapel pin. I have been thinking lately about asking a Mason how to join. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. You passed the test. Can you tell me how to become a Mason?" When the Mason stepped off the bus, he said a silent prayer, "Oh God, Grand Architect of the Universe, I almost sold you and my beloved Masons out for a mere quarter." Our actions are the only Masonic creed some will ever see. This is a really almost scary example of how people watch us as Masons and may put us to the test even without us realizing it! Always be diligent, whether it be at the theater, restaurant, grocery, service station or just driving in traffic. Remember, whether it be a lapel pin, a ring, or an emblem on the car, you carry the name of our great fraternity on your shoulders whenever you call yourself a Mason. You never can tell who might be watching! Good men search for Freemasonry; Freemasonry makes them better.

6 Masonic Youth Corner Conejo Valley and Santa Barbara Chapters Order of DeMolay Conejo Valley and Santa Barbara Chapters will be holding a combined Installation of Officers on Sunday January 22nd at 2:00 P.M.. The Installation will be held at the San Buenaventura Masonic Center in the Large Lodge Room. Please come and join these fine young men and celebrate a new Term. Bethel No. 89 Job s Daughters International Bethel No. 89 Jobs Daughters International held their Installation of Officers on Sunday December 18th. After the Installation Ceremony the Daughter s and friends joined together and went to play Lazer Tag. A great time was had by all. Members of several Masonic Lodges and Youth Order Groups gathered to decorate several Christmas Trees at the Casa Pacifica Center for Children and Families on December 11th. An enjoyable time was had by all.
