1 IN STREAM SILVER CREEK December 2013 Silver Creek United Methodist Church Dear Silver Creek Friends: Sunday, November 24, at a called Church Conference, over 91% of those who voted approved the recommendations given to us by our conference consultation team. While there may have been some disagreement about the "Concerns" cited, the majority of you believe that the prescriptions recommended (and now approved) are a good thing for our church to pursue. Below you will find the prescriptions listed again. Where we go from here is that I am already being trained as a pastor who is leading a church going through the Healthy Church Initiative. I will be meeting with our assigned HCI coach, Dr. Alan Goss, who also took part in our consultation in early November. We will be moving forward quickly on the next steps recommended by our consultation team, so stay tuned Church Road Azle, Texas Church Office Hours Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 1:30pm Closed on Friday 1. Mission & Vision - Upon acceptance of this report (should that be the case), Silver Creek UMC will adopt the mission of the church as making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. On or before February 1, 2014, the coach will conduct a Day of Visioning. The vision statement will be cast by the pastor and blessed by leadership on or before March 15, Community Connection - On or before May 1, 2014, the pastor, in consultation with the coach, will assemble a team of 6-8 people

2 to conduct two off-site bridge events (sole purpose to build relationships with people in the mission field). Both events will be conducted no later than May 31, The coach will equip and train the team for these events. 3. Structure, Staff & Leadership The church will adopt the single board model of church structure (see Book of Discipline & 247.2) effective July 1, The positions will be nominated by the Lay Leadership Committee. The coach will conduct a retreat for the pastor, new single board and all paid staff on or before June 1, The purpose of the retreat will be to name the core values, set annual church goals and ministry objectives as well as including training for the new board on the single board model and accountability leadership. The Coach will work with the Pastor and SPR Committee to evaluate the staff alignment with the mission, vision and budget on or before April 15, Until this evaluation is completed, no new staff will be hired. 4. Sunday Morning Experience The pastor, in consultation with the coach, will assemble a Evaluation Team (WET) of five people on or before March 1, The coach will meet with WET to review the Mission Insite Report and do some training on relevant, contextual worship. The WET, in consultation with the coach, will then visit three other congregations and attend worship. The WET will then create a report outlining recommendations to improve worship. The WET will pay special attention to guest hospitality, music, sermon, worship space, segues, energy, flow, technology, and bulletins. This report will be submitted to the Church Council on or before June 1, The pastor, in consultation with the coach, will assemble an on-going Design Team of 3-5 people. This team will be assembled on or before June 1, The Design Team, led by the Music Director and Pastor Vaughn, will meet regularly to create, plan and implement dynamic, culturally relevant worship as recommended by the WET. The pastor, in consultation with the coach, will assemble a Hospitality Team of 3-4 people on or before August 1, The Hospitality Team will identify areas for improvement and implementation to ensure everyone has a consistent experience of radical hospitality each and every time someone encounters Silver Creek UMC. 5. Intentional Faith Development - In order to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, a Faith Development Team of 3-4 people will be assembled by the pastor, in consultation with the coach, on or before September 1, The team will be charged with researching other churches discipleship pathways as well as using Deepening Your Effectiveness by Dan Glover as a resource in developing their pathway. The pathway for adults, children and youth will be completed and rolled out to the church by December 1, 2014.

3 Dear friends of Silver Creek United Methodist Church: Christmas is a time of year when most people outside the church give serious thought to faith issues. They are more receptive in this month to an invitation to come to church, and the most effective way is a personal invitation from someone they already know. Each of us know family, friends, and neighbors who perhaps do not attend church, and this is a great time to invite them to our worship services. I want to invite you to pray daily in the month of December for God to bring to mind (lay on your heart) someone who doesn't attend church, or perhaps stopped attending, and to invite them to our services. You may have to do it more than once, and even offer to pick them up! Our special services this month include: *Christmas Cantata, 11:00 am service, Sunday, December 15. *Christmas Children's Pageant 6:00 pm, same day, December 15. *Christmas Eve Eve Candlelight Service, Monday, December 23, 6:00 pm *Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, Tuesday, December 24, 6:00 pm. And then there are the five Sundays of worship: December 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, when people are looking for a place to worship in. *Many thanks for all who helped donate eight boxes of food to needy families at Silver Creek Elementary School. You made a big difference in the lives of families in our area. An Angel Tree is going to be placed in the hallway this week, in which you can purchase a gift for a needy child. Stay tuned! *Many thanks to all who helped donate to the United Methodist Committee on Relief offering for Typhoon relief in the Philippines. Please continue to be in prayer for the Synergy service and for musicians to come ready to contribute to the service. My bones weren't hidden from you when I was being put together in a secret place, when I was being woven together in the deep parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my embryo, and on your scroll every day was written that was being formed for me, before any one of them had yet happened. 6 Recipes Wanted! United Methodist Women still need recipes for the cookbooks we will be ordering. We are hoping for at least 150 recipes so we really need your help. You can either them to me at or any other UMW member or write them out and give them to any of us. Poinsettias Poinsettias can be ordered through Dec. 8 in honor or memory of a loved one. Cost will be $14 per poinsettia. Order forms will be in the bulletins on Dec. 1 and 8. If you are unable to complete an order form at church and would like to order a poinsettia, please contact Nancy Davis, The poinsettias will be on display in the sanctuary through Dec. 24 and can then be taken home. Christmas Card Delivery The United Methodist Youth Postal Service will be delivering our Christmas cards during the church Service on December 15 th. So, get your cards in the Mailbox in the main hall.
