1 January 2019 Sunday School: 9:30 am Sunday Morning Worship: 10:30 am The 2019 Flower Calendar has been placed in the Welcome Center. Cost is $75 for two arrangements and is a thoughtful way to honor or memorialize someone special. The arrangements are yours to take following the service. Please help support the church in this meaningful Precept Study of Romans All have sinned. There is none righteous. We are declared righteous by God only by faith in the blood of His Son. We will begin the study of part I of Romans, chapters 1 5, on Tuesday, January 8th. Romans 1 5 explains the foundational doctrines of our faith original sin, justification, redemption, and propitiation. This is a Precept study utilizing materials that require FEWER HOURS of study time than the studies we have used in the past. Everyone is welcome to join our Tuesday morning class which is comprised of men and women. Come and gain an excellent grasp of the doctrine of salvation. Soup and movies are the perfect combination for the cold winter months, so join us on Tuesday, January 15th at the church. Our Oasis group will host a soup luncheon followed by an afternoon movie matinee. The movie showing will be I Can Only Imagine. If you have not seen this movie, now is your chance. Our lunch will begin at 11:30, and we will follow with the movie in the sanctuary. RSVP by Wednesday, January 9th, and let us know that you re coming so we can properly prepare. We hope to hear from you! Youth Group will return on Sunday, January 6 in our new space. We will be downstairs under the Fellowship Hall. We will have all Sunday School Classes and Youth group there each week from this point on. It is going to be a great area and several youth have worked hard at creating a space that will be great for youth to hang out. Please note that it will be best if you park or get dropped off on the Cemetery side of the church and come in the back doors.

Join the ladies of Salem for lunch at Tonella s Pizza Kitchen on January 28th at 12 pm. 200 Envelopes Fundraiser As many of you know, the Youth Mission trip is coming up quickly. We will be departing Saturday, April 13 to go to Ecuador. We are still short funds needed to make this trip for this group happen. We have a couple of more fundraiser activities coming in March. However, until then, we are going to bring back our 200 Envelope Fundraiser. There are many who have said they are unable to make an event or meal and would like to just make a donation. This is the perfect time. There will be 200 envelopes in the Narthex and Welcome Center of the church from January 20 through February 20. They will be numbered 1 to 200. You simply pick and envelope (or more) that you want, sign it out and return with that amount of money in it for the trip. If you select envelope 57 then you return it with $57. We ask that the smaller numbers be left for children in case any of them would like to support the trip. The institute will comprise of many centers of excellence for each of these immediate needs in our state and will be headquartered on the recently acquired second Epworth campus, the former campus of Carolina Children s Home in Dear Salem family, Thank you all so much for the cards, letters, meals and visits at the time of June s passing. It meant so much to me. Sincerely, Ed Thomas Columbia. Our new Institute is designed to meet immediate needs in South Carolina. Among the planned centers of excellence include: The Center for Family Engagement Recruit, license, train, and support strong foster families. Support kin caregivers and biological and adoptive families in need. The Center for Independent Living Expand the capacity of, and increase the service array of the currently highly successful Higher Education program at Epworth. The Center for Child and Family Counseling Help both children and adults overcome the effects of grief, loss, and trauma. The Center for Social Enterprise Partner with other organizations to give Epworth clients opportunities to learn positive and creative work practices, and enable clients to experience hands on entrepreneurial experiences and generate revenue for Epworth. (Project #1: Epworth Ice Cream) Plans are already underway for these and others centers. Epworth plans to roll-out services as needs are identified and resources are secured through the Every Child is a Miracle financial campaign.

Beginning December 30, Kids Club will be meeting in the downstairs children s area. You will be asked to pull around to the back of the church near the Cemetery and the downstairs outer doors will be opened. This is also where children may be picked up. This will allow for a safer and more controlled drop off and pick up process. There will be signs pointing you where to go. We can t wait to see everyone again on Sundays at 5:00 pm!
