In this course, we ve been able to think about how we spend, save, tithe (give) the money we have, the resources and gifts we have, both personally and professionally. The major point that has stuck with me the most is that all we have, all we earn, all we ve been given, comes from and belongs to, God. That much made sense to me pretty quickly. The part I ve been challenged to think more critically about is this: How we spend, save, and tithe that which we have been given is a reflection of our lives as Christians. Basically, it s made me think more about where I purchase items from, what places I am giving money or donations to as charitable giving, and how to best use in other ways the money that is the income I earn as a pastor, but which ultimately comes from and belongs to God. from the desk of... Pastor Lisa As we ve gone along in the course, we ve been challenged to think about this on a congregational level, too. How are we using our God-given resources and offerings to support the ministries we care for as a congregation (like St. Dysmas and all our noisy offerings, and benevolence to the synod), and supporting and stewarding ourselves as members of friends of Trinity and the place where we worship together, fellowship, and learn about what God s up to in our world? These thoughts come to the front for me as I consider how we care for our church building. We have some amazing people in the congregation who keep the grounds clean and green, and who help maintain and fix up our building. And before I came to Trinity, the congregation decided to have a crew of folks from Dakota Milestones do our weekly cleaning. It s a great community service they provide for us, so we in turn pay for what they do. continued on page 7

ABSENT Justin Graves, Sharmel Olson, and Cynthia Wall. MINUTES Minutes were reviewed. Mary moved, Rosemary seconded minutes be approved. Motion carried. DEVOTIONS The meeting was called to order by President Dave, Mary led devotions. TREASURER S REPORTS Reports were reviewed. Rosemary moved, Mark seconded to accept the reports. Motion carried. Judy moved, Karen seconded that only current council members will be offering tellers. Motion carried. Mary and Judy will review procedure sheet for tellers and present any changes at the June meeting. A reminder of the $10.00 church cleaning fee per family will be placed in the June newsletter. CORRESPONDENCE Trinity received a thank you from the ELCA for our $8, donation for mission support. Judy moved, Mary seconded to invite a speaker from the synod to our June meeting to explain Listen God is Calling. Motion carried. The American Red Cross will be installing smoke detectors free of charge in the Chamberlain community. A request for workers will be in the June bulletin. Smoke detectors will be installed at Trinity free of charge. COMMITTEE REPORTS EDUCATION No report PROPERTY Chancel carpet will be installed this month. Paper towel dispensers and paper shredder have been purchased and installed. Neoma moved, Karen seconded that Donn DeBoer pursue the current plan with the city to fix the drainage issue in the parking lot. The city will locate the storm drain, supply the pipe, and grate for the drain. Trinity will dig the hole, provide gravel, and concrete for the project. Motion carried. WORSHIP They are looking for new ideas to incorporate into worship services. continued on page 6 Page 5

6 continued from page 5 STEWARDSHIP Deacons temple talk was well received by the congregation. DEACONS Scholarship fund basket will be available for donations in May. New members brunch was discussed. PASTOR S REPORT American Island Days community worship will be held August 16. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Pastor is waiting to hear from a prospective council member. Neoma moved, Nancy seconded to renew Shepard s Staff Program for $ Payment will come from Thrivent funds. NEW BUSINESS Mary moved, Karen seconded the June offering go to LWR for the Nepal earthquake. Motion carried. Committee meeting schedule was established. Worship committee will meet the 1 st Sunday of the month following worship. Education committee will meet the 2 nd Sunday following worship. Stewardship and Property committees will meet 30 minutes prior to monthly council meeting. A member has raised a concern of the clutter that has accumulated on the table in the narthex. Dave will find a different table and excess items from church activities {cake pans, etc.} will be dealt with in a timely manner. Pastor Lisa and Rosemary will look at a free 14 day trial of Sundays and Seasons bulletin resources and report findings to council. Dave moved, Karen seconded synod registration and lodging be paid by Thrivent funds. Motion carried. Emalee Larson and Sydney Hall are this year s honored High School graduates. Mary moved, Neoma seconded $ be donated to the Sacred Horse Ride which will be in Chamberlain on May 29. Thrivent funds will be used for the donation. Motion carried. A brunch for new members will be held May 31 st following worship service at the home of Dianne Graves. 7 2015 Vacation Bible School June 1 st through 5 th 1:00 3:30 P.M. at United Church of Christ from the desk of...pastor Lisa continued from page 1 But there s been some confusion, I m told, about how much each family contributes to paying for the cleaning they do here. In short, when it is a family s or individual s turn to contribute to the cost of having Dakota Milestones clean each week, they are asked to pay ten dollars. This money can be put in the offering plate and labeled For Cleaning. For some families, this might be a hardship. If that s the case, please notify me and we will work that out. Lately, the contributions for cleaning have been a little slow, so I hope this clarifies for everyone how we work with Dakota Milestones to keep the church building clean. It s our place of worship and fellowship, and so we are stewards of it together. Paying for the cleaning is just one way in which we are stewards, and that s important to remember. But we are stewards of this place and one another in other ways, too. Our tithes and offerings go to care for the building, to groups we support, and so much more. We are stewards Page 7 as we share our gifts for ministry as lectors, musicians, hosts, bible study leaders, council, etc. and in everything and all we do here! Trinity is a great place to serve and to be a part of the body of Christ. God has given us a good life here together. So may we continue to steward and care for that life, and for those around us, in faithful response to all God has given to us. In Christ, Pastor Lisa

8 TRINITY LUTHERAN DEACON S MINUTES MAY 20, 2015 The meeting was called to order by President Jean Blackwell. Devotions were given by Judy Swanson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Pastor Lisa. Old business was discussed. The basket was used for the scholarship fund Sunday, May 10. A thank you was extended to Lori Tonak for her stewardship report to the congregation in April. Trinity s 60th anniversary will be on Reformation Sunday in October. The deacons discussed the new member reception on May 31 at Dianne Graves home. New business was discussed. Sympathy cards will be sent to Marilyn Tounsley and Holly Meyerink. A sign up sheet will be passed around the end of May for the June 14 brunch. The money collected will be donated to the Adam and Katy Brock family, who lost their home and possessions in the Delmont tornado. A tub will also be available if congregation members wish to donate items to the family. The fish fry will be held August 13. More details will be available later. People are still needed to help with Trinity s 60th anniversary and church directory. Pictures will be taken July The prayer list was updated. The deacon for June is Joyce Wevik. The meeting closed with the Lord s prayer.
