Pastor Lisa I must admit, I love October. Here at Trinity we are getting into the swing of things with our Christian education programming, our area schools are buzzing with activity, and even as the weather grows cooler it seems like more life is happening. For that, I am truly thankful. Last year at this time we were preparing for the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation. Now, we are preparing to hear one of our young men affirm for himself the promises his parents and sponsors made at his baptism. Any time we get to affirm, proclaim, declare what we believe about our faith and God s faithfulness to us is special. But I get most excited about it when we do so with our young people. Why, though you may ask? Well, when I look out at all of you from the altar I get to see many of the generations of our congregation surrounding our young people in prayer, love, and thanksgiving for all God has done in their lives and ours. I get to see the past, present, and future of our church the church that is always being shaped, formed, and reformed by the work of the Holy Spirit proclaiming that our life, hope, salvation, and peace rest in our risen Lord Jesus Christ. On Reformation Sunday, our confirmation day, those words in the affirmation of faith and the Apostles aren t just routine. New life gets breathed into them as we look forward to the life of our congregation. We get to witness the Spirit at work in a big way through the promises affirmed, Word proclaimed, and Sacrament shared. And then we get to be witnesses to God s work and promises as we go out in service to God through all we do each day. Yes, we get to do that anyway every week. But I wonder if it doesn t stand out more for us on days like Reformation Sunday? Maybe we let those continued on page 4

4 2018 Lutefisk Supper Lena said, Eat up that broccoli, Ole. It ll put color in your cheeks. Ole replied, Do you really think I want green cheeks? Fun! Fellowship! Food! What puts all of those together? It is our church's 24 th annual lutefisk, meatball, lefse supper. In 1995 a group of crazy Trinity Lutheran Scandinavians hatched the idea of this supper to raise money for the church building fund. This ignited the money raised for our current fellowship hall. This year s lutefisk, meatball, and lefse supper will be held Sunday, November 11. Be gearing up to think what you would like to make and what you would like to do at the supper. Signup sheets will be passed around starting October 21 st. Lefse making is being planned for Sunday, October 28 th following church. We will order pizza for lunch. The more people the more fun it is! Lefse dough will be made Wednesday, October 24 th at the Wevik residence beginning at 8:30 AM. Contact them to assist Thrivent Action Teams will help to pay for supplies and advertising. A few weeks later, Lars asked Ole how she was doing with it. Oh, said Ole, I persuaded her to svitch to a clarinet. How come, asked Lars? Vell, Ole answered, because vith a clarinet she can t sing. from the desk of...pastor Lisa continued from page 1 baptismal promises sink in a little more deeply as we pray for our young people and for one another? My prayer is that they do. That when we proclaim belief in all that is of God and reject those things that are not, we remember the God who made us, loves us, freed us, and who calls us to be disciples in this and every age. That we remember we don t just say a bunch of words during a confirmation service or any other worship service. Rather, we declare and state our faith to God and to one another. May we declare that faith ever boldly on that last Sunday in October, and on all of the days God lays before us. In Christ, Pastor Lisa Page 4

Fish Fry Report: 56 adults/6 children attended, overall positive comments. Dotty will send a thank you for the oil. Suggestions- limit amount of some food items, need 2 fryers NEW BUSINESS 1.
