Our bookkeeper, Tracy Presley, will be on vacation February She will return to work on Tuesday, February 22. Monthly publications will be mailed in plenty of time for you to be informed about all of the upcoming events, programs, services and activities for the coming month. In order for the office to be timely in publishing our newsletter, deadline for submitting articles for the Cross and Crown will be on the 15 th of each month. The first monthly publication (March edition) will be mailed on February 22. Dear All Saints Family, Thank you for allowing me to serve as Senior Warden for the last two years. The support you gave me was tremendously heartwarming and touching. The clock is very special to me and I will cherish it always. Thank you! Paul challenged us Sunday. That is what we all need to be about. We must be even more intentional in discerning ways All Saints can minister to each other and to our larger community. We must prayerfully listen to the work God is calling us to do. We must respond. Christ s Peace, Fred Page
3 THE PASTOR S PAGE ALL SAINTS WELL REPRESENTED AT ANNUAL COUNCIL All Saints was well represented in Jackson at the 184 th Annual Council of the Diocese of Mississippi. Delegates and alternates Kay Cannon, Cathy Fitzpatrick, Joellen Murphree, Fred Page and Vicky Vance joined me as we worshipped, visited and transacted business throughout the weekend. I am grateful to our delegation for their faithful attendance and hard work at Council. Several All Saints parishioners including Bruce Morgan, Jeffrey Berry, Ken Murphree, David Sparks, Mary Lou Parks, Bernard Hufft, Wayne Averett, Karen Asbury, Martha Stephens and the Rev. Gene Asbury were spotted in Jackson at different times over the weekend as they took part in various Council events. Youth Director Stacy Carroll helped out with and youth Anna Ballard, Isabel Gray, Hayden Hershfelt, Hayes Hershfelt, Jace King, and Mary Langford attended the Youth Lock-In. Jace King represented our Convocation as a Youth Delegate to Council. Hosted by St. James, St. Mark s, St. Columb s and St. Alexis, worship and business took place in the recently completed Jackson Convention Center. The newly renovated King Edward Hotel (with a Hilton Garden Inn operating therein) was the site of the Friday evening reception. The Clergy Spouses Luncheon hosted by Cathy Gray was held at St. Andrew s Cathedral. Saturday evening found Episcopalians from all corners of the state making their way to St. James where the Bishop s BBQ Cookers served up BBQ to hundreds. Homemade (or should I say churchmade ) beer brewed by the St. James Brew Masters was also served. Much energy at Council is always directed toward the election of various individuals to serve the diocese in numerous ways. This year was no exception as positions on the Standing Committee, Executive Committee, and other offices were open. Also elected at Council were four clergy delegates, four lay delegates, four alternate clergy delegates and four alternate lay delegates to General Convention, which will be held in Indianapolis during the summer of I must say that once again members of Council selected outstanding individuals to serve the diocese in a variety of ways. Afternoon breakout sessions were new at this year s Council. Topics included stewardship, church communications, congregational development and planned giving. Cathy Fitzpatrick and I were presenters for the Planned Giving session. Thank you Cathy for your hard work! We discussed various ways that people might make gifts to the church, including remembering the church in wills. If you have not updated your will recently please do so and remember All Saints and the Diocese of Mississippi therein. Also, if you haven t planned your funeral, come by the office or go to our website to get planning materials. Once you ve completed your planning call Nancy and set up an appointment with me so we can discuss your wishes and plans. In other business, Council passed an amendment to our diocesan canons so as to implement the recently revised canons which comprise Title IV (the disciplinary canons). After extensive study and work by many, including our own Les Alvis, extending over several years, Title IV was completely rewritten so as to provide more procedural fairness and substantive clarity. These amendments were adopted at General Convention The new disciplinary canons take effect July 1, Implementation of the new canons includes the creation of the Disciplinary Board of the diocese, which serves various functions under the new system. Les Alvis and I were appointed by Bishop Gray to serve as members of this board. Next year s Council will be held February 3-5 in Vicksburg. I hope you will make plans now to attend and participate.

If you have borrowed these items, please return them to the kitchen inventory. For those that would like to borrow items from the kitchen, please notify the office, so the items may be properly checked out to you. If you would like to give the flowers for the altar on a particular Sunday, the 2011 flower chart is located in the church narthex. The cost for two vases of flowers, arranged by our talented Flower Guild, is $75. FLYING LESSONS Church in the Snow Many of you have expressed an interest in obtaining a copy of Nathan Duncan s photo of the church after our most recent snow storm (the photograph was used on the cover of our 2010 Annual Report package). A limited number of copies of the color photograph are available in the office for a suggested donation of at least $20 to the Rector s Discretionary Fund. The picture is 4 x 6 matted and sized for an 8 x 10 frame (frame not included). by Gilbert Ford The author grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and then migrated north to Brooklyn, like the doves he writes about in this book. They flock together, nest together, and sing together. In the winter they travel south and in the spring they return north. One day a big noisy bird with twin engines flies on the scene and the doves must learn a new way to fly. This is a signed copy by the author. (Shelved E/For) Gift of Fr. Paul Stephens WILD ABOUT BOOKS by Judy Sierra, pictures by Marc Brown By mistake, librarian Molly McGrew drives her bookmobile into the zoo and introduces the animals to the joy of reading.
