3 PARISH MINISTRIES DISTRIBUTION DAY for AUGUST ORDERS Saturday, August 28 9:00 10:30 a.m. \ Saints Brew has been serving an average of well over 50 meals a day last month we served 1,290 guests!! We are in need of the following items: tub or stick margarine, sugar, coffee, Sunny D orange juice, 5-oz plastic cups, regular boxes of cereal (Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, Fruit Loops, Honey Nut Cheerios), salt, pepper, sugar free maple syrup, gallon size 2 percent or skim milk, and 409 Cleaner (1 gal. size 409 is available at Lowe s). Your help with any of these items or monetary donations is greatly appreciated. PLACE YOUR ORDER FOR SEPTEMBER ON SATURDAYS: September 4 & 11 10:00 Noon or online at: Volunteers are needed to help take orders (two Saturdays a month) and to help with distribution (one Saturday a month). A sign up sheet is located in the back of the church. A nursery will be made available to those volunteers who call ahead to either Mandy Atkins or Kasey McFate. I know it's early yet, but please begin thinking about children's choir this fall! It's my belief that encouraging children to sing in a church choir is essential both for their development and the mission of the church. Research has shown that choral singing helps develop the skills necessary for reading and math. Singing in a group setting also teaches discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and dependability. In addition, All Saints' children's choirs use their music in service to our parish community - aiding in their spiritual formation. All Saints' currently has two children's choirs: one for children in kindergarten through third grade, and one for children in fourth through eighth grade. The younger choir, led by Jeanne Lagrone, focuses on the basics of vocal production, choir etiquette, and fundamentals of music reading. The older choir, led by Mary Lou Parks and myself, begins to explore repertoire appropriate for the church year, psalm-singing in the Anglican tradition, and developing music reading skills. We try hard to complement what children are learning in Catechesis and Sunday School. I know that there are many attractive options for activities for your children, but I can't think of any that offer as many benefits at no cost to you. I'm always available to answer any questions you might have, either by phone ( ), (jessica@allsaintstupelo.org), or in person! Peace, Jessica
4 CHRISTIAN FORMATION Christian Formation classes for all ages will resume Sunday, September 12. Registration for pre-school - 12 th grade will be held Sundays, August 8, 15 & 22. Look for the sign up sheets in the church on Sundays, or call the church office at Registration is for new students, as well as, returning students. All you have shall some day be given: Therefore, give now that the season of giving may be yours and not your inheritors. Kahil Gibran All Saints' EYC decided to head to New Orleans on a mission trip earlier this summer. We worked with a group called the Saint Bernard Project whose goal was to restore homes that were damaged during Hurricane Katrina, particularly those in the Saint Bernard parish. We were assigned to the home of a man who worked as a carpenter before the hurricane. After the hurricane was over, he came back to his house to find most of the dry wall ruined. He put all of his money into fixing his house only to find that the dry wall he used was known to react with the electric wiring and cause fires. He was forced to gut the house and start over, which he couldn't do because he spent all of his money on the faulty dry wall. That's when the Saint Bernard Project stepped in. When we arrived, most of the new dry wall had already been hung and our main job was mudding and painting. Our site leader was a member of Americorps, which supplied the Saint Bernard Project with many of its volunteers. By the time we left, the house was almost ready to be handed over to the owner. The only things left to do were texturing the walls and adding a final coat, but that was for another group to do because our time was up. SUNDAY, AUGUST 29 Immediately following the service Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Training for Assistants You don t have to be a certified catechist to be present in the atria on Sunday mornings. Assistants help the catechists in a variety of ways to help make everyone s experience in the atria a meaningful one. Need more information??
