The video topic will be Docking, since we have covered Preparing to Depart, Departing the Dock, and Anchoring. You ve been out there on a long trip and it s time to come back home!! 3 3 Side Lights. The D27 Rendezvous in New Bern on June 8.9 is just one month away! Go to the D27 Website Calendar to obtain information and registration form. Uniform of the Day for all events is casual USPS, ABC, district, or squadron polo shirts encouraged. For Flag Ceremony, squadron commanders and district officers uniform is khaki shorts, white polo (district preferred) and white or tan cap. Boat Operator Certification (BOC) will be available at the Rendezvous for members seeking to demonstrate onwater skills toward certification in either the Inland Navigator (IN) or Coastal Navigator (CN) programs. Publix for the gift card (provided hot dogs, drinks and paper plates), Wendy s (provided cups, napkins, and condiments), Snyder s Lance (provided chips and cookies), Flower s Bakery (provided hamburger and hot dog buns), and the Red Fez Club for providing the venue at a reduced cost. Mark your calendars for the 2019 Children s Outing to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 Stf/C Charles Bo Ibach III, SN-CN Chairman Children s Outing 2018 Annual Children s Outing On May 19, 2018, we once again held our Annual Children s Outing for area deserving children from the Mecklenburg, Gaston, York and Lancaster County areas. Sadly, due to the threat of inclement weather, many of the groups invited chose not to attend despite pleadings that the event will be held rain or shine. I had informed those that I invited that I would not allow any rain but not all of them believed me. And I proved to be right. In the 56 years of our Children s Outing, it has never been rained out and I wasn t about to let that happen for the first time. But be that as it may, we still had a total of 169 guests to enjoy a beautiful day on the lake. They swam, fished, rode on boats and ate lots of food. Our mighty chefs cooked up 240 hamburgers and 104 hot dogs all of which were consumed. Some of the leftover food went to the soup kitchen in Rock Hill to help the needy there. I was expecting about 320 attendees when the day began. Also, 18 members of Charlotte were in attendance helping out primarily on land with making sure that everyone had a good time. And from comments I heard, that was exactly what they had. Again, I say a hearty thank you to our members that made my life easier that day. Ken Elkins for getting the life jackets there, Pat Hakanson and Doug Drum for getting them back to Merit Mark Point storage, Marvin Chaney, Hank Bateman and Commander Samonds for manning the gate, Bill and Pat Mencel for their efforts in the shelter, Paula and David Stewart, Rose Samonds, and Will Granger for handling the drinks, Pat Hakanson and Isaac Fleming for their help on the docks, John King for bringing his boat (sorry that it broke), George Rogers Sr. and George Davis for their help in and around the shelter and most of all, Ronnie Helms and Ronnie Campbell for their great job of cooking all those hamburgers and hot dogs.

See P/C David M. Stewart, AP at the next meeting. SHIP S LIBRARY We will, once again, attempt to provide a ship s library for all CPS members at the monthly Membership meetings. The books are courtesy of the publishers and are those I have reviewed for The Ensign magazine over the past eight or ten years. A list of the titles follows this article. Clip it out and save it. If you find yourself short on reading material and are in need, you can choose one or two and enjoy some good boatingrelated reading. The rules are: 1. No more than two books per person at a time. 2. Books may be held for the period between meetings and must be turned in at the end of that period. 3. Any books held longer will incur a penalty of $1.00 per month to be paid to Fund Raising Chair D/Lt/C Paula Stewart, AP or to our Squadron Treasurer (currently P/Lt/C Mary D. Chaney, JN). All fines to be earmarked for the Educational Department. 4. All books borrowed will be signed for by the borrower on the card provided and the card turned in to the Ship s librarian. These are not a lot of rules. It is up to the members to abide by them. If you don t, we ll have to send the boys from Chicago to visit you.
