1 Happenings at Nassau Grove December 2016 From the Board Update - Irrigation System Repair Board Update Now that the irrigation system is turned off for the winter, Sposato will soon begin work on completing the outer loop. As reported previously, this project is an alternate repair option for the mainline break under Carneros Ave. Completing the loop will balance the water pressure in the system and should help reduce the likelihood of burst pipes. It will also reduce back-pressure on the pumps. Winter Weather is Here Distributed with the newsletter this month are two documents on Winter Weather Property Protection and Freezing and Bursting Pipes. Dear Neighbors, Open Letter to the Community from the Board As this year comes to a close and we plan to spend time with loved ones and reflect on our blessings and challenges this year has brought, we would like to thank you who have devoted your time and your energy in support of Nassau Grove and the community beyond. We are fortunate to have so many in this community who offer their time and talents to help those less fortunate around us. Various organizations are greatly enriched by families you adopt, warm coats you donate, and so much more. In addition, you also give of your time and support to the many social groups, advisory teams, and committees. Those who give selflessly of their time because you care about the people of Nassau Grove are truly the core of what is so good about our community. We thank you for your caring, your efforts, the outcomes, and the support of Nassau Grove. As you celebrate with your family and friends this holiday season take a moment to thank a neighbor for the positive spirit and energy they offer to all of us who call Nassau Grove home. 2 For Your Information Donate Warm Clothing The Zwaanendael Women s Club members have placed a box in the clubhouse foyer for high school students in need of warm clothing. Please donate hats, gloves, scarves & hoodies for high school students in need. Winter Wonderfest of Lights The Winter Wonderfest of Lights, including the Light Spectacular at Cape Henlopen State Park and the Christmas Village at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal Grounds, runs through New Year s Day and will benefit many Sussex County charities. When buying tickets online for either event, you may enter a promotional code to support a specific charity that benefits from this event. Code examples (received from the local charities) are AUTISMDE for Autism Delaware and CSC for Cancer Support Community. Happy 90th Birthday, Harbor of Refuge Light! Ninety years ago, on November 15, 1926, the current Harbor of Refuge Light went into operation. The first permanent light in this location, made of wood, began service in 1908, but was dismantled by the United States Lighthouse Service in 1925 as it proved to be ill-suited for the harsh Atlantic conditions. The current light is made of cast-iron and has stood the test of time for 90 years. Hurricane force winds, flooding, and even a ship striking the caisson in 1986 have not darkened this beacon. The Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation has recently finished a new dock and expects to be able to offer tours to the lighthouse next summer. 3 Details on Upcoming Events Dine Around Dine Around at Fins Ale House Tuesday, December 20, 5:30PM The Dine Around schedule for early 2017 will be distributed at the end of December. What is Dine Around? Dine Around is a monthly event during the off-season for Nassau Grove residents to get together and dine out. It is not a fundraiser as you will be ordering off the menu at regular price or in the future you may be offered different meal choices. This is a great new opportunity to meet some of your neighbors especially if you don t play golf or pickle ball or cards or go to some of the parties but enjoy eating out. The Greene Turtle Clubhouse Fundraiser Thanks to our neighbors who ate at The Greene Turtle in November. This fundraiser helped to raise funds for our Clubhouse. Shout Out Thanks to the elves who decorated the railing on the bridge across the main pond. It looks so pretty at night.

Come out of the cold and warm up with friends for an evening of quiet fun and a hearty supper! There is no charge for admission. 7 For the Good of the Community Volunteer Opportunities As you may know, many of our neighbors volunteer outside our community at places like the Georgetown SPCA, Fort Miles, Lewes Library, Habitat for Humanity, Autism Delaware, and the Zwaanendael Women s Club. If you are working with a group outside of our community who is in need of volunteers and would like to share contact information about that organization, please send that information to Karen Hartschuh at khartschuh@verizon.net for inclusion in future newsletters. At present, two local organizations are looking for help with art cart projects. The first is Autism Delaware located in the Nassau Vineyard Commons (monthly).
