4 YOUNG AT HEART SENIORS SENIORS IN MARCH Faith and Begorrah we dunnit again! On March 7th, we celebrated St. Paddy s Day our traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, prepared by Carol Dean, Sherlin Grill, Joan Morris, and Betty Cones. Our tables were bedecked with shamrocks, leprechauns, and gold coin candy by Leah Towers. Mayor Castleton urged us to attend the town meeting at 7pm Thursday about our ambulances. Then President Marla Coons welcomed our merry group, including new members, Kathy and Daniel Forbes, and Ron Bray! And welcome back Dick Hallsey! She thanked Daniel for coming early to help set up, Janice Boswell for checking our vitals. Then we pledged allegiance to our beautiful American flag, sang My Country Tis of Thee and Happy Birthday to all our March celebrants. Sherlin Grill asked the Lord s blessingon the food, then we ate the whole thing. Dennis Wahlberg tested our memories during dinner with a fun slogan game. Leah played an Irish medley on her accordion. Patrick Mahoney (a real Irishman and born on St. Patrick s Day, a twin-to Mike, of course) told us his true story, and true trivia of Irish ancestors! Harry and Helen Russell won the prize for answering most trivia correctly. Door prizes were won by Janice Boswell, Harry Russell, Patrick Mahoney, and Dick Hallsey. Announcements: A board meeting will be held at Marla Coons house on Wednesday, March 31, at 10 am. Janice Boswell announced a fundraiser for Smiles for Salote on March 17. Anna Gillespie announced Bingo on Saturday March 10, 7 pm at the ELKS Lodge. The next Young at Heart Luncheon will be April 7th at Noon. 6 Salote Mae Lauti OCTOBER 15, 2004 ~ APRIL 2, 2018 (AGE 13) Heaven gained a precious angel on April 2, Salote Mae Lauti, 13, passed away at her home in Vernon, Utah following a courageous battle with osteosarcoma. Salote was born on October 15, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah to loving parents Taimani and Darcy Lauti. She attended 7th grade at Tintic High School in Eureka, Utah. She loved school and it was important to her to be there and to do her best. Salote always loved having her friends around and was a great friend to many. She loved to paint, draw, create music, write stories and do many other activities where she could be creative. She loved to watch DIY videos and then try all the ideas she saw. Her friends and family often had beautiful nails, courtesy of Salote. She enjoyed participating in the local Roundup Livestock 4H club where she was currently serving as the club president. She dearly loved her lambs that she raised as 4H projects! She was a member of the Tintic High School band, she loved to play her clarinet, kazoo and her ukulele. Music spoke to her soul, it brought peace and comfort during the hard times and joy and laughter during the good times. She knew every song and loved to sing along. Salote had a bright, radiant smile that could light up any room and shine in every photo! Salote was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. She was currently serving as Brelynne M Otteson JANUARY 27, 2000 ~ MARCH 27, 2018 (AGE 18) Brelynne Breezy Marie Otteson, along with her boyfriend Riley Powell, tragically left this Earth. Breezy, age 18 (17 at the time of her disappearance), disappeared on December 30th, On March 27th, 2018 the two were discovered, leaving a heavy heart on all those they touched. Breezy was born on January 27th, 2000 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Nannette Baird and Kenny Otteson. OBITUARIES the beehive class president. She took her calling very seriously and did her best to make all the members of the class feel included and welcome. Salote is survived by her parents Tai and Darcy Lauti and her brothers Tau and Tui. Her grandparents Doug and Sandy Morgan, Kathy Lauti and Sione Lauti. Great grandma Billie (Jack) Dunn. Aunts and Uncles Mele (Sitiveni) Kauvaka, Losi Lauti, William Lauti, Ama (Pone) Tasini, Taukave (Courtney) Lauti, Lopeti (Carla) Lauti, Tonata Lauti, Anatoa (Liu) Vakapuna, Kepu (Keilani) Lauti, Poukei Lauti, Sydney Lauti, Shawn (Jodi) Morgan, Dean (Tanya) Morgan, Derek (Paula Brown) Morgan. And numerous cousins whom she loved. She is preceded in death by Aunty Kathy Lauti Fonokalafi and great grandparents. The funeral service will be held on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 1 pm at the Vernon LDS church with interment at the Vernon Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday April 6 from 6-8pm and Saturday April 7 from 11:30-12:30pm both at the Vernon LDS church. The family wishes to thank the outstanding staff and doctors of the Oncology Team at Primary Childrens Medical center. Especially Dr. Doug Fair our oncologist who was there every step and called every day for the last 3 weeks and Cathy Haskins our tireless social worker. The physical therapy department at Mountain West Medical center, the music therapy and art therapy departments at Primary Childrens Medical center. Harmony Home Health and Hospice and their caring nurses. Make-A- Wish of Utah along with Chartway Credit Union and the We Promise Foundation. The local communities of Tooele, Eureka and Vernon for all their love and support. The ladies of Vernon for all the meals and visits. Breezy loved her family, friends, and she had a larger than life personality. She enjoyed listening to music, parties, baseball, gymnastics, swimming, being outdoors, and most of all spending time with her family. Breezy left behind her dad Kenneth Otteson (Emalee), brother Kennin Otteson, and sisters Kylysta Otteson (Jamie Maxfield), Jordyn Hamby, Madison Otteson, and Anisty Shoemaker. Breezy left behind her Grandfather Randy Morehead and Randy Millward, Grandmother Mary Reierson (Vern), and her Great Grandma Diana. She left behind her aunts, Cassie Anderson (Charlie), Amanda Hunt (Brandon Davis), and Jamie Swann. Breezy had many, many cousins that loved her dearly. Breezy is preceded in death by her mother, Nannette Baird Hamby, step-father, Jared Hamby, aunt Stephanie Hunt, Grandmother, Cindy Baird, Great

7 Grandma Jena V and Great Grandpa George Baird, and her loving dog Roxy. Breezy will be dearly missed, the beautiful light she brought to this world was extinguished much too soon. Two services will be held in honor of Riley Powell and Brelynne Otteson. Services in Eureka for Breezy and Riley will be held at 11:00 AM, April 7th, at the Tintic School District located next to Tintic high school. Services for Breezy and Riley in Tooele will be held at the LDS Church located at 180 S. Coleman St. Tooele, Utah on April 14th at 11:00 AM. -- Riley Lee Powell APRIL 28, 1999 ~ MARCH 27, 2018 (AGE 18) Riley Lee Powell was tragically taken from us on December 30th, 2017, along with his girlfriend Brelynne Otteson. On March 27th, 2018 the two teens were located and we were able to bring them home to lay them to rest. Riley was born April 28th, 1999 in Provo, Utah to William Bill Powell and Linda Powell. Riley truly lived life to the fullest, enjoying dragster racing, basketball, off-roading in his dad s Jeep, driving fast, and always looking for the next adventure. Riley loved his family, pets, and he loved Breezy. Riley brought joy to those around him with his shy smile and quick wits. Riley s big heart often showed as he went out of his way to make others happy. Riley was hard working, ensuring he graduated from high school, in which he did, from North Sanpete High School. Riley is survived by his father, William Bill Powell (Debbie Rosenbaum), his mother Linda Powell, his sisters Nikka and Jewel Powell (Trenton Belvard), and his nieces Jaycee and Robynn. Two services will be held in honor of Riley Powell and Brelynne Otteson. Services for Riley Powell and Brelynne Otteson will take place at 11:00 AM on April 7th at the Tintic School District, 525 E. Main St. Eureka, UT and at 11:00 AM on April 14th at the LDS Church located at 180 S. Coleman St. Tooele, UT In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chartway Credit Federal Union, account Breezy Otteson and Riley Powell. OBITUARIES Nicolas H Varela, 86, of Payson, Utah passed away on April 3, 2018 in Provo Utah. He was born on March 22, 1932 in San Ignacio, Chihuahua, Mexico to Ladislado Varela and Adelaida Holguin. Nicolas attended school in San Ignacio, Chihuahua, Mexico. On October 28,1961 he married Maria Magdalena Silos in Chihuahua, Mexico. Nicolas worked as a police officer in Chihuahua, a farmer, miner and security guard at Tintic mines in Eureka. He loved fishing, rodeos, road trips to Mexico and family get togethers. Family time was most important to him. He loved to garden and was known for his chilies. He was very friendly and accepted new friends openly into his family. He was a great example to his children and grandchildren. He taught them the value of hard work and the importance of family. Nicolas was a very active church member and also a member of the Knights of Columbus at the San Andres Catholic Church. He enjoyed helping with the meals and projects. He is survived by his wife Maria Magdalena, children; Jesus, (Guadalupe) Varela, Joel Varela, Linda Leiva, Nancy Liufau (Don), 14 grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren and siblings; Florentino Varela, Candido Varela, Soccoro Ayala, and Angelita Molina. Nicolas was preceded in death by his daughter Eva Irene Varela Acosta and brother Rafael Varela. Mass will be held at San Andres Catholic Church on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. A vigil will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 5 p.m. and a rosary at 5:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah. A visitation will be held after rosary from 6-8 p.m. A visitation will also be held prior to mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at the Payson City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to
