5 MAY MISSION OF THE MONTH ~ PHILIPPINES The Pig Roast May 14 was to raise funds for the work of the Lutheran Church of the Philippines. Begun in 1946, Lutheran Church of the Philippines had 23,000 baptized members in 190 congregations and a national staff of 301 pastors, evangelists, lay preachers and teachers. A Royal Redeemer team has worked directly with the church body president, Rev. Antonio del Rio Reyes in opening a mission effort in the Leyte villages from which Royal Redeemer member Marissa Zimmerman comes. A team of seven went last March to bring and install water filters in four villages. Members of the team also brought eyeglasses to fit and give to villagers. The funds raised at the pig roast will be sent to President Reyes to support work of this evangelist, to send more water filters, and to help fund the orphanage run by the church body in Manila. We pray God s blessings on future mission efforts that might develop out of these relationships. As summer approaches we anticipate a decrease in donations to our Food Pantry. School will be out of session and many church families go on vacation. However, HUNGER NEVER TAKES A VACATION. Please pick up a shopping bag after service; you will find a list with suggestions inside. (Feel free to purchase any non-perishable food or toiletries or make a donation to the Food Pantry for gift cards or fresh food.) No expired foods please. Return the bags to the collection basket in the Gathering Room and THANK YOU FOR HELPING US TO FEED THOSE IN NEED! For scheduling a drop off of fresh foods call Kat at extension 133. Any other questions you may have, call Mary Ann Tansler at extension DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MISSION INFO MEETING Feeling God s call to serve on a short-term mission trip? Come to the Dominican Republic Mission meeting on Thursday, June 2 at 7:00 PM in Room 30 to learn more about G o d s p l a n s f o r t h e February 10-18, 2017 mission trip.
