1 Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. John 7:37-38 Volume 26, Issue 6 Swift Creek Presbyterian Church June 2016 From the pastor s desk Dear Swift Creek Family, For quite some time I have been considering preaching on the first eleven chapters of Genesis. That time has finally arrived. Beginning on Sunday June 12 and running through the remainder of the summer we are going to tackle this very important section of Scripture. I don t know that there is anything, other than perhaps what Romans tells us about our salvation, that is more important for the Christian s holistic understanding of faith than these eleven chapters. All of the foundations about how we understand what it means to be created in the image of God, our stewardship of the environment, the nature of work, the understanding of sin, the creation of marriage, and the nature of our sexuality are addressed in these eleven chapters. They are exceedingly practical. These chapters raise the curtain on what God has planned for us from the beginning of time. You have to know your roots! We can t clearly understand who we are and where we are going without coming to grips with how and why God created it all to begin with. These passages are essential to laying a foundation in our lives that is capable of resisting the winds of the culture today and that teaches us how to live faithful lives in Christ. I hope you will make as many of them as you can. I also would like to thank you for your generous response to the new playground initiative. I have been very pleased to watch the way in which the whole church has embraced this as a good and important part of our vision for the future and our outreach to the community. Your giving is a genuine expression of your deep faith in the Lord and brings both energy and optimism to our common life as a church. Gifts and pledges continue to roll in at a good rate while at the same time we get closer and closer to a final design and find more and more ways to economize in that process. We are in such a good position to minister to all of these new families moving in all around us and this is going to be a major step forward in that good hope. Thank you for supporting this. Grace, Tuck
2 2 June 2016 On a Mission We just received word that the 25,056 meals we prepared during our Stop Hunger Now event in April have been shipped to Nicaragua! The meals were shipped with over 250,000 other meals from Stop Hunger Now s Richmond warehouse. The Missions Committee held its quarterly meeting on May 15. A large portion of the meeting focused on whether we should go back to Haiti again in 2017 since our 2016 trip was such a success. And I m happy to report that we will, indeed, be fielding another team to head back to Haiti from March 4 March 11, 2017! Stay tuned for more information in the coming months. Jenny Jenkins, the missionary who hosted our 2016 team in March, will be at SCPC on June 19 to speak at both services so it will be a great opportunity to hear more about her calling in Haiti. Bike Day was unfortunately canceled in May but our rain date is June 25 so hopefully the weather will cooperate this time! Mission Hydrate Flint, in partnership with our friends up the street at Spring Creek Baptist Church, is in full swing so please bring your cases of water, hypoallergenic and fragrance-free lotion/wipes, and donations (checks payable to SCPC with memo to MHF ) to the church by June 5 at noon. Finally, a big thanks to all of those folks who organize and volunteer for our Friends Feeding Friends and Meals on Wheels programs. For information or interest in participating in any of our missions programs, please contact Greg Herceg at Operational Budget for May 2016 YTD Revenue: Expenses: YTD Net: 2016 Budget $187,000 $186,378 $ Actual $173,469 $196,923 ($23,454) Set up electronic giving at scpcva.org.

5 June Sundays June 12 - July 31 Large Adult Classroom #Unevangelize #LoveOnesClosetoYou #Romans12:2 "... but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Stuart Holt from The Evangelism Institute has been with us in the pulpit, in our Sunday classes and recently lead us in Saturday seminar. We discovered such a renewed understanding of evangelism, that we asked him to teach our Adult Sunday Class during June and July. He has agreed to return and continue our introduction to evangelism as well as respond to our specific request for guidance when talking to family members. So... #Continue #Consider #Come
