2 CHAPLAIN S REPORT Brothers, whether it is irony, parody, sarcasm, or satire, the use of opposites is often found in literature in order to express deeper truths. It often provides us with amusement but additionally and more importantly it can invite us to a new and deeper understanding of life. In any given story, the villain in many respects is the opposite of the hero. The negative or evil that the villain represents is presented as a way of showing us what to avoid in life. Curiously, therefore, by being taught how not to live, we are in effect being taught how to live. With this in mind I would like to share with you the following for your consideration and edification. The Devil's Beatitudes: Blessed are they who are too tired and too busy to go to Church on Sunday, for they are my best workers. Blessed are they who are bored with the minister's mannerisms and mistakes, for they get nothing out of the sermon. Blessed is the church member who expects to be invited to his own church for he is part of the problem instead of the solution. Blessed are they who gossip, for they cause strife and divisions that please me. Blessed are they who are easily offended, for they soon get angry and quit. Blessed are they who do not give their offerings to carry on God's work, for they are my best helpers. Blessed is he who professes to love God but hates his brother and sister, for he shall be with me forever. Blessed are the trouble makers, for they shall be called children of the devil. Blessed is he who has no time to pray, for he will be easy prey. On a personal note I would like to wish all of you a very happy, safe and healthy summer. May you find time to vacation with the Lord and experience personal regeneration in the coming days. Your chaplain and brother in Christ, Fr. Ray Masse GRAND KNIGHT S REPORT It has been a joy to serve the council for the last few years but it has come to a close. Thanks to all for the tremendous support throughout. I know it would not have been as successful if not for you. There is one very 1 important person that I have to give a huge thank you to and that is my wife Cathy for the many hours that she has put into helping me along. Well the elections are almost over with a couple of positions still open until the June meeting. Please take the time to look at the positions that are opened and consider running for one of them. Congratulations to all those that were elected and those that stood for Office. Also remember that nominations and elections for the Columbian Club will be in June. Filling these positions is essential in order to keep the hall running smoothly. The Squires Investiture took place this last month and it is good news to hear that it was a huge success. Congratulations Squires! Thanks again to everyone for their good wishes and may you all have a great Canada Day and a safe and happy summer. 5 Life Insurance As a Gift? The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a questioning stare. How morbid, they think. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is really a thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times. The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of death instead of the great benefits it provides, and the security that it offers even while you re alive. Life insurance should be thought of as a precautionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse s quality of life in the event of your death. One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It s a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable. Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets. As nontraditional as it may be, life insurance is a wise and caring gift to purchase for many people. K of C Insurance Over 11 Billion in Assets Highest Possible Ratings From A.M.
