2 Page 2 Volunteers this Week We offer our thanks to Cindy Putz for being our litugist during our Sunday morning service. We also thank Julie Stepp for volunteering to help us with the PowerPoint during the services. LOVE-JOY CIRCLE TO MEET The Love-Joy Circle will meet Monday, October 8 th, at 10:00am in the Session Room. Remember to bring your Halloween Cards for shut-ins, items for the Child Advocacy Center and cardboard tubes for the Nursery School. We have several things coming up so hope all of you can be there. Any woman in the church that would like to be involved in the Women s Ministry is welcome to come and see what we are all about.. Church Mission Trip Opportunity From December 27 to January 2, everyone aged 12 and up is invited to serve with the church at the Give Kids the World Village in Orlando, Florida. Give Kids The World Village is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides week long, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families. Go to our website or follow the link below for more information. If you are unable to attend the trip, donations may be made to offset travel costs. Please earmark donations for the Orlando Mission Trip. Connection on Fall Break We are in the midst of fall break for the Putnam County School System. Due to this, there will be NO CONNECTION on Wednesday, October 3 or October 10. We will resume on Wednesday, October 17. We look forward to seeing you then! SUNDAY IN WORSHIP Sunday, October 7th, will be World Communion Sunday. The chancel color is green. The scripture for Sunday will be 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 and the sermon title is Unity in Communion. Please plan to join us in worshipping God and celebrating Holy Communion. We need people to serve as liturgists during morning worship. You will be asked to read liturgy and to say one prayer. A signup sheet is on the narthex table. We also need people who have some experience with PowerPoint to help the church run video for morning worship. Please let Christian know if you are willing to assist.

3 Page 3 Save the Date! Trunk or Treat will take place on October 31 st Fundraiser During the month of September, the youth group sponsored the fundraiser. They offer a huge thank you to each person who donated to this important activity! We have raised nearly $3500 with a few more envelopes still to be turned in. This money will be used for retreat fees over the next year. MISSION NEWS Our church has become a collection point for the Jammin at HIPPIE JACK S program. Hippie Jack s delivers food to the poorest regions of the Upper Cumberland. You will hear public service announce- ments on the radio. Donations will be accepted from the community Tuesday through Friday of each week at the church. Let your friends and coworkers know. We are still collecting QUARTERS. The quarters are being used to make laundry packs to provide those in need with detergent and quarters to do a load of laundry at a laundromat. We have made and distributed about 100 of these in the last six months. Twisted Stitcher's goal is to have a couple of finished and tagged PRAYER SHAWLS on the desk in the session room at all times. Please help our ministry by getting them to anyone who could benefit from prayers and the love of Christ. If you would, indicate on the list who the blanket went to and help us cover everyone. Thank you. JOY Club Outing On October 23 rd, the JOY Club will travel to the Fog Light Food House in Walling, TN for dinner. The group will leave at 4:00pm and return around 8:00pm. A sign up sheet is on the narthex table. Please indicate whether you will be riding the bus or driving on your own. Please sign up by October 21 st. GRIEF SHARE CLASSES It happens in all our lives at one time or another. Someone special to us dies and we are left with a big empty space in our hearts and lives. We understand that grief is a very personal thing and everyone goes about grieving differently. It s very comforting to be supported by people who have gone or are going through the same thing. One of our ministries is our Grief Support Group. It is comprised of people who have walked where you are walking, who are compassionate and understand many of the feelings you are experiencing. A new set of classes will begin on Tuesday, October 9 th, at 1pm in the Family Life Center. Grief Support will walk with you on the long path to recovery. You will find a warm and caring environment, an oasis as you continue grieving. Meetings are open to anyone, not just church members. Each session stands alone and there is no cost; there is no age limit. We would love to have you join us and you might even find a muffin and some coffee. There is more information available on the narthex table and if you have questions, feel free to call or Let s not keep this ministry a secret. Spread the word to those who might benefit from being a part of this group.

4 Page 4 Fall JOY Club Activities We invite you to mark your calendars for the following Joy Club activities: October 23 - Dinner at the Foglight Food House in Walling, TN November 8 - A trip to the Cumberland County Playhouse to see "Holiday Inn" December Candlelight tour of the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, North Carolina DORCAS STITCHERS It is time to begin work on items to include in the Samaritan s Purse Christmas Shoeboxes for 2018! Please consider joining us on Wednesdays, anytime between 9am and 5pm, in the sewing room (Lower Commons of the church.) Everyone is welcome and whether you actually sew or not, there are always things that need doing. If you are able to come during the afternoon, we encourage you to stay for our Connection dinner at 5:15pm. 5 Page 5 PSA House Meals October is our church's month to provide meals for the PSA Bible Study on Tuesday nights. There is a signup sheet in the Narthex if you would like to provide part or all of a meal for these students during October. We also need people to sign up to help deliver these meals.
