1 blessings TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH Trinity Lutheran Church - June 2012 Newsletter Greetings All, June is typically a time that ushers in a shift in behavior for many of our families here at Trinity. We exit the routine of work, school, school activities, and home life and enter our summer routines including vacations and family visits. You will notice that I did not include church life as a routine. I did this intentionally as I believe that church life should never become a routine, but instead be a part of life that informs and shapes all other aspects of life. With this said I want you to be aware of two things this summer. What s Inside! Message from Pastor Can Do Anniversary Sunday Serving Chart & Giving June Calendar First, to make a conscious effort to attend worship services no matter where you are. The God of Fall and Winter is the same as Vacation Bible School June 18th - 22nd Light Dinner Served 5:0 pm Program from 6 pm - 8:0 pm

2 the God of Summer and should at all times be worshiped and praised. This helps us to stay connected and grounded in faith. If you are unable to attend our Sunday morning service please consider attending on Sunday evening at 7:0 pm. This service will continue throughout the summer and is quite different than the traditional morning service. For those of you who have not experienced the evening service it begins at 7:0 in the Narthex sitting around the coffee table. The lighting is by candlelight and the setting sun through the windows, both clear and stained glass. We start by meditating to a musical selection that represents the scriptural theme for that day. Next we listen to one of the appointed readings for that day. After a brief time of silence for reflection on the reading I offer a series of prayers that differ from week to week. Next we hear from our Gospel lesson for the day. Following the Gospel is another time for silent reflection. People are invited to sit as long as they like in the Narthex, and when they are ready we gather at the altar for communion. The entire service takes about 20 minutes. This is a good time to invite friends or family and to worship God in a different setting. Can-Do One of the simplest ministries of this church is the Can-Do ministry. All it involves is drinking your favorite beverage and bringing the empty can to church. Simplicity at its finest. Please continue to drink your favorite beverage in aluminum cans and bring those cans to the church to be transformed into ministry. To date we have taken in 118 pounds of cans that has turned into $49.00 worth of ministry dollars. The second thing I want to remind everyone about is that the church needs your financial support as much in the summer as it does the rest of the year. Remember Jesus said that where your treasure is there your heart will be also. Giving is as much a part of worship as praying and singing. If you do a lot of traveling this summer consider our Simply Giving program as a way to stay connected to the church and to its ministries. It is directly through giving that we are able to minister to our community as Jesus commands us to. Finally, I would like to say thank you to all of you for your part in the ministry of this church. As of June 1st I have been here 8 years and feel truly blessed by this congregation. Believe it or not this is an extremely easy church in which to serve, and it is an extremely difficult place to serve. It is truly a Lutheran paradox. It is easy in that we don t fight with one another as I hear other churches do, lining up on issues and condemning the other side. For this I am eternally grateful. I love it that we can differ in opinion, but love each other at the same time. What makes this place difficult is that people are always moving. We have an incredible turn over of members. This turnover makes it hard to move forward as we are always in the turnover cycle rather than the growing cycle. It makes it harder to incorporate everyone into the life and ministry of the church. However, that is what makes us who we are. We say our good-byes with tear filled eyes as those we love dearly leave for new possibilities. Then we turn around with open arms to welcome in those who are now becoming new friends. It has been an emotional roller coaster at times, but I wouldn t trade this church for anything in the world.
