2 The month of the Holy Souls puts me in the mood to recall my ancestors whose choices and lives have contributed to the person I am. When the ships from across the ocean arrived, members of my family were here to receive them. I am a descendant of the Algonquian and Wyandot peoples. I am related to the first white child born in North America and a descendant of her younger sister. I am a descendant of Irish debtors who were bought off the boats to work on plantations. I am a descendant of English and Scottish people who came working for a future of hope. I am a descendant of Hessians who fought for the British in the War of Independence. My family moved to Oregon in the early 1840 s. Some followed the Oregon Trail in wagons and others came up from San Francisco bringing sheep. My grandfathers were both doctors. My grandmothers were both music teachers and church organists. Lest you think I come from privilege, my mother s father worked his way to a medical degree by working at a coffee shop. My mother s mother began working full time at fourteen years of age when her mother passed and she became responsible for her six younger brothers and sisters. My father s father fought in the First World War and afterwards worked his way through medical school. My father s mother was one of those modern women of the 1920 s who chose my grandfather because of the way he consistently treated others with courtesy and respect. (By the way, with her seamstress skills she converted her wedding gown into a formal evening gown.) Oh, on second thought I do come from privilege. Marriage til death do us part is the consistent standard. The treasure of music and the importance of God in our lives have been keys from at least the 1870 s. As far back as we can find, our greatest inheritance has been knowing the value of a good education, the importance of family and the privilege of working hard to help shape our future. Although I am the descendant of Evangelical Preachers, three of my four grandparents as adults became converts to Catholicism, as did my father who received his first communion on December 8th, 1952 the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. My mother knew my father was a keeper when he suggested they pray the Rosary together while waiting for trolleys and buses on their first dates together. One of my earliest memories is being held in my mother s arms and her telling me the approaching ship was my father s (US Navy). You know, in my family, when ships across arrive from across the ocean we are there to receive them. Some testimonies of our teens from the November 4th Inspiration Event: On this day I felt a lighter feeling in my heart. I have been From Fr. Bill consistently praying for patience with members of my family. Tonight I feel that God answered that prayer and is taking the anger and anxiety in my heart and threw it away. For the first time in a long time I don't feel worried about my brother and instead am grateful for him being who he is. - LR I felt God the most during adoration when we were singing songs that were meant to empower us. Since I am still fighting with depression, some of the songs have me this warm chill; in a good way, made me feel a lot better about the situation that I'm currently dealing with. Thanks for letting me go to inspiration. I had a great time. - HM Every Life Teen event, reminds me of my mission on earth, and what God put me on earth for: to be the best Christian leader I can be. Listening to the speakers in today's mass/rally opened my eyes so much more through their super inspirational messages. Although I am extremely exhausted, my ears and my mind are not. I once again encountered God and his good will. - MO Tonight was the first time in a while that I felt the true presence of God. I felt him in a different way today because I felt him flowing through me during adoration. Thank you for bring us to this event it really changed my view of God and his almighty power. - AD How I experienced JESUS today was through song and prayer and I realized a lot of things that I do in my own life and I experienced the love of JESUS and realized that he was greater than my doubts and fears because JESUS is more. - AC My experience has been as always very eye opening and inspirational. The music in the church and at Inspiration at six flags have always made an immense impact on me and my feelings towards God. This type of music and the togetherness we all displayed has always rejuvenated and fueled the connection I have with Jesus and I hope I can have this same feeling back at St. Jerome Church. - AB I felt God s presence because of how many teens came together today for this event. - NG I felt God's presence in an immense way. I learned that God understands that we are broken and sinners, but he still wants to love us. During adoration the band moved me and I actually felt God's love. I now know that I'm never alone, and no matter what I do, I can never separate myself from God's love. - SU Today's inspiration was simply amazing. As my first time going, I really had a beautiful time. It helped me look at life differently. I feel closer to my faith and can't wait to explore even more! - GB

3 Catholic Campaign for Human Development This weekend is the annual Campaign for Human Development collection. This collection helps many people across our country in developing work projects which will lift them out of poverty into self-sustaining work. This special collection coincides with our annual Thanksgiving Day celebration. Please find special collection envelopes located in the pews and on the tables. St. Jerome Church Christmas Bag-It Up 2016 Once again St. Jerome Church is teaming up with the Food Pantry-LAX for the Christmas Bag-It-Up program. Today, bags for the Christmas Bag-It Up Program are available at all exists. Please take a bag and fill it up with the items on the menu list located inside each bag and return it on the weekend of December 3rd & 4th. We are requesting that you include a reusable bag in your Christmas bag. If you would like to earn service hours we need volunteers. Please call Johnnie Albano at for more information. The Food Pantry LAX is located at 355 E. Beach Ave., Inglewood. They distribute food to the community every Tuesday and Fridays from 10:00am to 12 noon! For more information, please call Thanksgiving Day On Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, our St. Jerome community will gather for the Liturgy of Thanksgiving at 9:00am. We join with our entire nation in thanking God for the abundant blessings bestowed on our people throughout the generations. We invite all parishioners to bring some items of canned and packaged foods for families of our Food Pantry, LAX this time of the year. At the 9:00 am Liturgy, please keep your food donations with you in the pew until all are invited to PROCESS forward at the time of the Offertory to present them at the altar. St. Jerome Monthly Soup Kitchen On Thanksgiving Day! St. Jerome Monthly Soup Kitchen will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner to the needy in our parish on Thursday November 24th, - 10:30am to 12 noon. It was established by St. John Paul II in 1985 to provide the Catholic Church s full range of pastoral ministries to those in the United States Armed Forces. The Mission of the Archdiocese is to serve those who serve by providing the same pastoral care and services as any other Catholic diocese to Catholics serving in the USA. St. Jerome School is accepting applications for Pre-K, Transitional K and Grades K thru Grade 8. Applications may be downloaded from our website or you may visit the school office to pick one up.
