The upgrade of the interior of our Church includes a new porcelain floor, new pews and kneelers and a modified sanctuary. The plan also envisions several new handicapped parking spaces on the level of the main entrance to the Church. This repair and maintenance effort will begin as soon as we receive the necessary permits from Warren Township. We anticipate the renovations to begin this coming Fall. Further information regarding the detailed scope of the project with accompanying design drawings and elevations and funding needs will be addressed in the coming weeks. I appreciate and look forward to your continuing support of the parish. 4 A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 3, 2016 HIS WORD TODAY At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few, so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest May I never boast except in the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ. A rich tradition as missionaries were taking leave for their travels to other lands, was the presentation of their mission cross. How often when missionaries visited parishes to preach a mission, they carried that cross with them, and with it, blessed the people. It is not rare for us to observe on our streets young Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses, going in pairs to bring their message, stopping, conversing, knocking at doors. Jesus did the same when he sent the seventy-two. Pope Francis has reminded us of our mission, to hit the road, dirty our feet, yes, and even be bruised as we become His laborers for His harvest. We are not to wait in church for others to join us in the gift of our faith, but we too are sent, apostles, to bring what has the greatest meaning in our life, the Person of Christ. May we be cross bearers for the kingdom and His harvest. He reminds them that the laws are not in the sky or far away at sea, but are accessible to them and meant to be followed if they wish to prosper. Second Reading: Colossians 1:15-20 Paul discusses the divine nature of Jesus, and explains that Jesus was created before anything else. Everything else was "created through him, and for him." Gospel: Luke 10:25-37 While discussing everlasting life, a lawyer mentions loving one's neighbor as oneself. The lawyer then asks Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus tells him about a man beaten by robbers, who was ignored by both a priest and a Levite before a Samaritan stopped and offered him aid. Jesus asks the lawyer who was neighbor to the injured man. The lawyer says "the one who treated him with compassion." Jesus encourages him to go and do the same. He said to them, The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few - Luke 10:2 As Catholics we are all called to serve in ministry. However, many of us are unsure how to use our talents and gifts to build God s Church. Talk to God and ask Him what He wants you to do. The next time one of your fellow parishioners asks you to help or join a committee, it may be the answer to your prayer.
