Here at the parish, while we have some insights into our parishioner preferences, there is a lot more that we do not know. It is for this reason, that we ask you to share your thoughts with us. It shouldn t take more than 5 minutes. Today marks the kick-off of our Parish Survey as a part of our Strategic Planning process. This 12-question survey was designed to gauge your thoughts on how we communicate, the ministries we have and do not have, and how we meet your formational needs. You will also have the opportunity to simply share with us your ideas, hopes, and dreams. So with that, we invite you to take the 12-question survey online today, or when you receive it through the Weekly Update in your inbox. We ask that you complete the survey no later than Sunday, November 30 so that we may compile the data and begin planning to address what we find. Bob Dear Friends, This past weekend, a group of our parishioners organized a Christmas Decoration and Bake Sale to help raise money to pay off the debt we hold in our parish. Thanks to your support and our volunteers donation of time and talents, we raised $1057 to apply towards debt reduction! Our loan balance is now down to $745,537. It is amazing the good we can do together when we put just a little bit of time into our parish community. We may feel that we have very little to give, whether it may be time or money, when in fact, God has gifted us with all that we need to bring faith and love to others in the world. This upcoming holiday season, you may be able to help financially by choosing a tag off of the Christmas Angel Giving Tree to buy a gift for a child in need, or help by purchasing a few extra groceries to help stock the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. You may be able to help with the gift of time through the Angel Giving Tree gift organizing, or by decorating the church for the Advent and Christmas seasons. Or, you may be able to help spiritually by praying for all those who hurt during the holidays due to loss or loneliness. As we enter into the Advent and Christmas seasons, the Parish of St. Benedict will be offering many opportunities to come together as a Parish Community to help serve others in our greater community. We all have gifts we can share with others. Take some time to prayerfully consider what gifts you are called to share this season, and witness our parish community grow closer together as we communally listen to the call of the Holy Spirit. -Fr. JAM on November 25 The Sacrament of Reconciliation is an amazing gift from God. To offer forgiveness and cleansing from our sins is something truly moving. So often we get bogged down in our lives with sin that we allow it to control us and forget just how far away we are from God. Well, now is your chance to fix all that! On Tuesday, November 25, JAM will be serving up Only Say The Word, a night covering Reconciliation! We will gather at St. John Bosco from 6-7:15 pm. All middle schoolers are welcome to join us! These gifts help us to build a solid foundation for Catholic formation now and for future generations. While improving education, housing situations and economic development they continue to make a positive impact in communities nationwide. Your contribution will defend human dignity and help those living on the margins of our society. Knights of Columbus Knights Meetings The next meeting is on Thursday, December 11 at 7:30 pm in the meeting room at the back of the church. All Knights, please plan to attend! The Knights continue to collect the Maggie s Place baby bottles filled with change this weekend. Thank you for your help! St. Vincent de Paul Thank you so much for all your generous donations for the Thanksgiving food drive! Your help and support is truly appreciated by all, especially by those families who otherwise would not have had a holiday meal. SVdP Thanksgiving Bags St. Vincent de Paul workers will be collecting the filled grocery bags handed out last weekend for their Thanksgiving Food Drive. If you forgot to bring your bag, you can still bring it next weekend or throughout the week to the church. Thank you for all your help and support! Winter Wonderland The St. John Bosco Moms Club presents our Tenth Annual Winter Wonderland. This annual event is a fun-filled, family-friendly, communitybuilding occasion which invites all families to enjoy the company of others while celebrating the beginning of the Christmas season. The event this year will be held on Saturday, December 6, on the SJB school campus. Winter Wonderland activities include breakfast and photos with Santa, hot chocolate and cider, gift boutique, obstacle course, children s boutique, games, crafts, cookie decorating, and Christmas music. The most anticipated element of the event is by far the 25 tons of real snow (with the occasional flying snowball). Bring your children and play in the snow with friends. 7 Page 7 33 rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - November 16, 2014 More SVdP Annual Turkey Tuesday On Tuesday, November 25, we will need volunteers to help collect turkeys and food for use in the Thanksgiving food boxes we distribute to the needy within our parish boundaries. We also need people to donate turkeys and food at participating Bashas Stores. Last year there were not enough turkeys for all the families that requested one. We collect from 7 am until 7 pm. Call Michele Edison for details at Hospitality Training Many parishioners have commented on how welcoming a parish we have at St. Benedict. Come find out why that is and how that happens! Join us for an orientation to the Hospitality Ministry at 4 pm on Saturday, November 22 in the parish meeting room, or at 4 pm on Sunday, November 23 in the worship space. Orientation should take approximately 30 minutes and all ages are welcome. We are blessed by the families and individuals who serve the community in this important way. The parish has a particular need for Hospitality Ministers at the 5 pm Masses. Please consider joining this wonderful Ministry and send any questions you may have to Sandy Davaz at ddavaz@yahoo.com. Christmas Angel Giving Tree The work for the Angel Giving Tree program this Christmas season has begun! Volunteer opportunities are available. If you are interested in helping please Joyce Petrowski at petrowski4@cox.net. Liturgy Corner When the faithful of our community gather, we become a visible sign of the Body of Christ. During this sacrament of unity the whole Body of the Church is involved in different ways. Many important Liturgical functions of our celebrations are entrusted to the laity, who are drawn from the community, trained, and entrusted with the sincere devotion and decorum expected of them by God s people. Sacristans, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Pastoral Care, Altar Servers, Ministers of Hospitality and Music Ministers all exercise a genuine liturgical function and are an integral part of our celebrations. Lay ministers foster the mission of Christ that flows from baptism and put their gifts at the disposal of the community for the common good and in response to specific needs. Since the Second Vatican Council new opportunities have emerged for lay ministers in the Church. St. Benedict is blessed to have many dedicated, men, women, and children, who generously share the gifts entrusted to them by the Holy Spirit to serve the People of God. When people with particular qualities are matched with the liturgical roles that call for those qualities, the liturgy can speak powerfully to us, moving us to prayer.
