So much so, I don t even need to point out to you all the ways in which we are divided. So what is a Christian to do when confronted with a person who values their opinion more than the people around them? Is it possible for us to live as Jesus did? Many feel that Jesus had it easy because the first century was a far different time and there wasn t much conflict. This is a very misinformed view. Jesus was living under an oppressive regime headquartered in Rome and enforced dutifully by local tyrants. The Jewish people held the Temple in high esteem as the place in which God dwelt among His people. Yet, beyond that they could not agree on which particular sect had the correct teaching concerning doctrines of the faith (Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, etc.). Jesus was surrounded by many different ethnic backgrounds most of which did not historically get along. Prejudice prevailed. I could go on, but you get the point. It pretty much sounds like it wasn t that much different then than it is now. Where I have seen great unity in the past few weeks is with ReviveOHIO. Over 50 churches in Allen County collaborated in some way to share the simple message that God loves people and offers them abundant life through Jesus Christ. From wide ranging political views to practices of ministry to styles of worship to various denominations to racial differences, God indeed has a very diverse family. There were times I was stretched, times I was confused, and even a moment or two in which I was offended. Yet, the Spirit at work among us was undeniably of God. Over the past few Sundays, I have enjoyed the same feeling at Trinity with our new worship schedule. It is such a delight to be able to see all of the family fellowshipping together without each person or group giving up their own unique traits. I believe this is a reflection of what the Scripture means when it says: Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12) Our common bond as Christians is Jesus Christ. As long as we agree on who He is and what He came to do, we are united on what matters. Having received His love, we are equipped to follow His example of holding out grace to all. He shared truth with love. He knew not everyone would follow Him or agree with Him, but He loved anyway. If we follow in the footsteps of Jesus as our practice of ministry, our future as a church is bright. Love and truth go hand in hand. We love, we share truth, and we continue to love regardless of the response. God Bless You All! Pastor Rich Pastor s Page

Trinity UMC will again be hosting a trunk or treat event in the church parking lot on Thursday, October 26 th from 5:30-7:30pm. Kids of all ages are welcome to walk through, look at the decorated trunks, and get candy, donuts, and apple cider. We encourage anyone who does not have much trick or treat traffic in their neighborhood or who simply want to be with their church family to join us. It is simple - just park your car in the parking lot and pass out candy from your trunk (or lawn chair). There is huge potential for this to be a community event by connecting with families in the area. You can plan on serving at least 300 people so you ll need at least that many pieces of candy. Volunteers are also needed to serve apple cider provided by the church. In order to better control the chaos, anyone interested in passing out candy must reserve a parking space and fill out the Car Trunk Registration Form on page 3. You can also pick up forms at the church office. PLEASE ARRIVE AT CHURCH BETWEEN 5PM-5:15PM to get set. If you choose, you can decorate your trunk or the entire vehicle. Judging and prizes for the best decorated trunk will be given before we start passing out candy. If you have any questions, please contact Roger through the church office.

7 October 2017 Trinity Times Page 7 Upward Basketball Are you ready for Upward Basketball to begin? There are some great opportunities this year in Delphos Upward Basketball. The first one is if you decide to be a head basketball coach the entry fee for your child is going to be completely waived. There will be no charge for them! This is a way for us to say thank you for all the time and energy that you put into this ministry. We also lowered the price for cheerleaders to $60 in order to increase participation. Our cheer coaches are amazing! If you sign up a basketball player and have a cheerleader in the same family, your cheerleader will be half price ($30) with a full price basketball registration. Please look for the flyers at your local school or at the church. They will be out the first week of October. Here are some important dates to mark on your calendar #1 Evaluation is 10/21/ 2017 from 9:00am to 12:00pm #2 Evaluation is 10/28/ 2017 from 9:00am to 12:00pm #3 first practice will be 11/ 6 /2017 #4 first game will be 1/6 /2018 #5 award celebration will be 2/18 /2018 Don t miss out on an opportunity to reach out to our community with the saving love of Jesus. Each week we will have hundreds of children and parents from our community in the walls of our church. Pray about how you might help minister to the participants and their families. There are many different opportunities available including leading a halftime devotional, working the concession stand, keeping books, running the clock, or even simply coming to the games and getting to know those in attendance. For over 20 years Upward Sports has shared the message of Jesus through sports like Basketball, Football, and Soccer. Reaching over 500,000 children every year Upward Basketball teaches the fundamentals of each sport as well as the Christ-Centered virtues of Honesty, Patience, Gratitude, Trust, Responsibility, and Self-Control. A shared ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church, each year the league offers an opportunity for children grades Kindergarten through 4th grade to experience a fun, affirming, and competitive team sport grounded in the teachings of Christ. The Upward promise is that every child plays every game and every child is treated like a winner. This year we had a number of scholarships that we handed out. This is always a blessing when we can bless other people who would like to be a part of Upwards and can't necessarily afford it. I would ask that as you read this letter, pray, and see if God prompts you to support a student in need. The registration fee for basketball is $80 and $60 for cheerleaders. If you choose to support the program, please make all checks payable to Trinity United Methodist Church and write Upwards Sports in the memo line. Thank you so much for your support.
