LENTEN PENANCE All are challenged to do penance during the Lenten Season in order to prepare for the feast of Easter. CHURCH REQUIREMENTS: Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. To abstain means to refrain from eating meat. This is required of all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast as well. To fast means limiting oneself to one full meal and two lighter meals in the course of a day. This obliges Catholics from the ages of 18 to 59.

"Mọi người đều đi tìm Thầy" CONFIRMATION NEWS CF interview with teacher, sponsor, student Teacher, Priest, Catechetical leader or Youth Minister will conduct interview at each year of Confirmation preparation to ensure that the candidate is truly prepared and committed to received the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a time of reflection for our Confirmandi and their Confirmation Journey thus far. Students are to sign up for the interview during their class. The interview will be between minutes from11am2pm for the following dates: Confirmation 2 _ February 1 or February 8 Confirmation 1_ February 15 or March 1 Youth Day * Thursday, March 12 Youth Day is held annually on the Thursday of the Religious Education Congress weekend. It is a day just for youth from many different backgrounds from throughout the Archdiocese and beyond to participate in a Rally, Liturgy and Workshops focused just for them. This is a mandatory event for all Conformation 1. Please turn in your permission slips and payment of $50 by January 15. Free the Fire * Friday, March 20 Sunday, March 22 This retreat is for Confirmation 2 students to enrich their spirituality with fellowship, praise and reflection. This is a mandatory retreat. Please turn in your permission package and $150 by March 3. THE 6 FUNDAMENTAL TASKS OF CATECHESIS 1. Catechesis promotes knowledge of the faith. 2. Catechesis promotes a knowledge of the meaning of the Liturgy and the sacraments. 3. Catechesis promotes moral formation in Jesus Christ. 4. Catechesis teaches the Christian how to pray with Christ. 5. Catechesis prepares the Christian to live in community and to participate actively in the life and mission of the Church. 6. Catechesis promotes a missionary spirit that prepares the faithful to be present as Christians in society. These six tasks of catechesis constitute a unified whole by which catechesis seeks to achieve its objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus. (NCD 20, p ; GDC 86-87)

4 Page 4 The annual Pastoral Service Appeal (PSA) begins this weekend at Holy Spirit Parish. PSA provides an opportunity for all of us to share in the Mission of the Church, which is the salvation of all. Each of us are called to help with the support of our Faith Formation, outreach ministries, Clergy formation and to support our Parish and Diocesan activities. The PSA provides a convenient way for all of us to participate actively in the mission of the church. Please consider pledging a percent of your income. You can submit your PSA pledge envelope during Masses this weekend or next, or turn them to the Parish Office. S.H.I.P Holy Spirit Parish is supporting the Self-Help Interfaith program (S.H.I.P., March 21-April 3, with dinner meals, lunch and breakfast items and non-perishable items. Patio sign-ups after Masses on February 28, March 1 and March 7/8. SHIP is an ecumenical venture of approximately 15 churches in Northwest Orange County. SHIP provides a residential program for the homeless. The program is designed to handle up to 8-10 guests at a time who transition from homeless status to a stable residence with a job.
