When the p rophe t Elijah showed up at the doo r of the house of the widow of Zarephath and he r son, he was a n u nexpected op portunity to do a go od deed. The re was a lack of ra in and food i n the land. The widow a nd her son were down to their las t meal before dying. But w hen she o pened her heart to help Elijah--God s man --by shari ng the few things she did have, unexpected blessi ngs came back to he r. Far f rom using up the last of he r fl our a nd w ate r to give Elijah something to eat, the Lord saw to i t that her flou r jar never went empty, and th e jug o f ol ive oil always was full, until the day the ra i ns re turned and the land p ro duced ( 1 K i ng s 17 : 10 16). We are p romised th at whe n we share ch eerfully, from whatever we h ave, no matte r much or little, we too will recei ve unexpected blessi ngs in retu rn. Rachel s Corner - Rachel s Vineyard Retreat November 13-15, 2015 Call Valerie: HOPE (4673) Parish Pie Sales - Pies will be available after all Masses the weekend of November 21/22 and on Wednesday, November 25 at 7 pm and Thursday, November 26 after Mass. Please see order form insert for more details. WYD Advent Wreath Fundraiser - after all Masses November 21/22 the WYD pilgrims will be selling handmade Advent Wreaths. Please see insert for more details. The Funeral Reception Ministry is being re-established, to provide hospitality to bereaved families following funeral Masses at St Augustine. Starting in late November, after the final organizational details are set, we will be able to hold funeral receptions once again. The mission statement of the Ministry says, Each reception is a celebration of the life of the person who has died. As such, the reception has a strong pastoral dimension and is a natural extension of the funeral service itself. The meals served at these receptions are homemade, which adds to the personal touch that the bereaved families truly appreciate. We re grateful to Dahlia Blackburn, Marye Kandzor, Candace Kelly, Nancy Theune, and many others for their diligence that has made it possible to begin this ministry anew. We recently attended the 90th Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW) at the Palisades in Federal Way at which we were pleased to present a check for $13,000 to Archbishop J. Peter Sartain for Seminarian Aid. These funds are raised in part from donations received for Mass cards, which are available in the church vestibule. We request a donation of between $3 and $10. Mass intentions are placed on Archbishop Sartain s altar and are offered daily for one year. Intentions are frequently offered for the deceased, but may also be offered for birthdays, thank yous and even for Christmas. What a wonderful way to remember your loved ones in prayer, and at the same time support the training of our 25 seminarians. Thank you! Donna Rose & Katie Kiefer.
