Due to military moves and life changes, we have a tremendous need for new volunteers. You may choose the Mass you would like to serve at - we have openings at all three Masses but have an enormous need for ministers at the Saturday evening Masses. Commitment time is approximately 2 weekends a month and we schedule around you! As long as you are confirmed and registered at the parish, you can serve in this important ministry. All training is in the church and takes less than 30 minutes. As a new Eucharistic Minister, you must attend one training prior to serving. Training dates are - Sunday, June 4th - after 9:30 am Mass Saturday, June 10 - after 5 pm Mass Sunday, June 11th - after 9:30 am Mass Wednesday, June 14th - 6:30 pm If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Karney at KrazzyKs@Gmail.com or We look forward to seeing you! 2 i The RE program is in need of volunteer teachers for several grade levels for the next school year. Please contact Rowena Harless for more information at or r h a r l e s s t a u g u s t i n e o h. o r g. I m excited about being a Religious Education teacher this fall at Saint Augustine. Am I also a little bit nervous? Of course! But I know that sharing the faith with our kids is one of the most important things I can do in the parish. Studies show that most vibrant and healthy parishes are those that take care of their kids and youth. Please join me this year in passing on our Catholic faith, as one of the best investments you can make in your church. Remember: God has no grandchildren! God s children are born in each generation by our efforts. Father Paul OPERATION BACKPACK I S O N I T S WAY! In Lent you helped our Religious Education youth raise funds to buy backpacks filled with school supplies for the students of Mabalodbalod Elementary School, which is in a locale in the Philippines devastated by typhoon. You and the RE youth included messages for the students. On Monday, Rowena Harless - our Pastoral Assistant for Religious Education - departs for the Philippines to personally supervise the delivery of the backpacks at the school and share our prayers and good wishes with the students and their families. Thank you for having made this work of mercy a great success! On Saturday, May 13, parishioners gathered in the Our Lady Plaza of the Prayer Garden to pray the rosary in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima.

5 PARISH HEALTH MINISTRY HINTS WHAT S IN YOUR WALLET? Everyone should have a basic list on hand that provides crical informaon in case of an accident. This dated list, headed EMERGENCY INFORMATION, should include: Medicaons being taken and dosages Over the counter drugs taken regularly Your doctor s name and phone number(s) Your emergency contact, name and number(s) List any surgeries (dates) and chronic condions Keep the list in your wallet behind your driver s license and update it anyme a new prescripon is given. You may also want to note I am a Catholic. WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO? OUTDATED MEDICATIONS Please do NOT put any outdated or unused medicine, in your toilet, drain, or trash. This can all leach into the water table. The Oak Harbor Police Department maintains a drop-box in their lobby where prescripon drugs can be dropped off daily. Can t get there ask a friend to help. DO YOU KNOW THE 8X8 RULE? As the weather gets warmer more me may be spent in the yard or garden, Spring cleaning, walking or hiking, or just taking in the sun (yes, it will be seen again). When you are exercising in any way it is important to stay hydrated. That s where the 8X8 rule comes in to play. Plan on drinking eight 8 oz. glasses of fluid every day. Dehydraon is an enemy of the maturing body so think (AND DRINK) fluids and enjoy the good weather. IT S ALL ABOUT BALANCE: FALLS & FITNESS Balance is not to be taken lightly and as people grow older we need to work to maintain it. Over 65% of the EMT calls on Whidbey Island involve older adults and falls. Falls lead to more falls, broken bones, etc. THE CURE: EXERCISE. St. Augusne s own Fitness Group offers an opportunity to enjoy companionship and fun while developing beber balance. The FREE program is offered at 4:30 Tuesdays and 4:45 on Thursdays.
