2 Page 2 May 2017 EASTER VIGIL A JOURNEY OF FAITH By Chuck Lambuth Scott Bolinger, Mark Brown, Kimberlee Gabriel, Joe Haun, Cindy Hillman, Silvia McVay, Artemio Montemayor, Carl Ruemler, Alexis Shelley, Brennan Shelley, and Abigail Strong came into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil after a formation process that began last August. The RCIA journey is a process that includes spiritual formation, scripture study, catechesis and fellowship. The neophytes spend six weeks in the mystagogy process which opens the spiritual bounty of the Catholic Church and offers them the opportunity to join in the lay ministries of the Church. The RCIA process is facilitated by lay parishioners, and the priests of both Kokomo parishes, who journey with those seeking to be Catholic. RCIA team members enjoy the benefits of deepening their faith, increasing their knowledge of the Church s teachings, witnessing the spiritual development of people in the RCIA process while enjoying weekly fellowship. 5 May 2017 Page 5 ST VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS By Marcia Eckstein May is named after the Greek goddess Maia. It comes in SPRING in the Northern Hemisphere. May s birthstone is the emerald and is emblematic of love and success. May s birth flower is the Lily of the Valley, although the month is ablaze with a rainbow of beautiful flowers. God really outdid himself in creating May flowers, bushes and flowering trees! St. Vincent de Paul is awash in flowers too. Not only in our décor but also in our products. For instance, if one stands up by the counter and looks out among the clothes, there are not only rainbows of colors but dozens of shades in each color! Wow! For only $4.00, shorts, tops, slacks, cardigans, sweatshirts and much more are available in those cool colors! May has its share of celebrations and needs, too. May is the Month of Mary, so there is May Crowning need a new dress? Mother s Day new dress? First Communion of your child new dress? Graduation new dress? Memorial Day Wait! What? Okay, so you don t need a new dress each time, but a dress, a skirt, a couple tops can all be mixed and matched for new outfits! Then match them with our inexpensive shoes and purses and you are set to go! What are you waiting for? St. Vincent de Paul is the one-stop shop that you can afford. If you come in during one of our Sale Weeks you can save even more! The second week of each month is our half-price sale on household items. Speaking of which, we are always in need of sheet sets (in all sizes, but specifically in double), towels, and pots and pans (IN GOOD CONDITION). In the third week May all our women s jeans/slacks are Buy one, Get one Free ; and the fourth week s sale is all books for 10 each - from May (not all month like in the past) - so get them while you can! May is also the Mail Carriers Collection. We need ten volunteers to help on May 13 at the Post Office again, or by neighborhood, in order to receive a portion of the collection. Also, please help this event by donating non-perishable, non-breakable food items. Put them in a bag and hang it or stand it by your mail box on Saturday, May 13. The pantry is okay now from our Sharing Sundays, the occasional collection from the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent Hospital; but once the kids are home for the summer, the Mail Carriers food boxes are what keeps us going. Thanks for helping either or both ways! As summer is approaching, we need more volunteers to work in the store, in order to take the place of the folks who get sick, need surgeries, or just go on a vacation. If you can spare one day or two a month, that is a great help. Once you do it, you will like it! Call Shirley Nix at with regard to questions or volunteering. It is only 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Finally, the needs from our Client Referral Program increase when the kids are home from school; so, if you can put back a donation in advance of your vacation, you won t miss it and we will treasure it. Thanks in advance, for all you do to help the poor of this county. BOUQUETS FOR BABIES! Lovely rose bouquets in a variety of hues will be sold on Mother s Day weekend (May 13 & 14) after all Masses! Would you like to bring a smile to the lovely lady who saw YOUR first smile? Or to someone else in your life who has been like a mother to you? A bouquet of lovely roses in her favorite color will do just that! At just $15 per bouquet, it s a great Mother s Day gift! Joan of Arc & Patrick School STUDENTS VISIT MONASTERY OF THE POOR CLARES STSJP second graders received a special invitation to the Monastery of the Poor Clares in anticipation of their First Communion. Students toured the chapel, sacristy and work room, and visited with Sr. Collette and Sr. Chiara, who explained how the nuns make the altar breads used at St. Joan of Arc, St. Patrick, and other parishes. 7 May 2017 Page 7 IGNITE Middle School Youth Group at St. Joan of Arc enjoyed a great April with two big events. On April 8 9, a group of 48 youth and adult chaperones headed to Carmel for a fun-filled and energetic overnight at Laser Flash in Carmel. Six hours of laser game play, arcade games, pizza, and friendship time ruled the overnight. It was a great time and we ll get another one on the calendar in the near future! On Sunday, April 23, there were 30 middle school youth from St. Joan of Arc, St. Patrick, and St. Charles Borromeo parishes who turned out for a great day retreat together at St. Joan of Arc. Paul Sifuentes, Associate Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry with the Lafayette Diocese, was our guest speaker and emcee. Youth Ministers Brian Campbell and Luke Hoefer, and a high school/young adult team assisted and led small groups. The IGNITE middle school youth group enjoyed a great overnight at Laser Flash in Carmel The day was filled with fellowship through group games and short talks led by Paul, breakouts with adult and youth leader teams, Mass, Reconciliation, Adoration and prayer time at the Divine Mercy Sunday event.
