This year, why not turn to God and allow for his guidance to nourish your mind, body and spirit through prayer, meditation and spiritual practice. We have programs to support your personal and spiritual growth, whether that be a day away, a weekend or week away. We will journey with prominent women such as Mary Magdalene, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, the Samaritan woman, Dorothy Day, and Mother Theresa to explore several qualities they possessed that contributed to a deeper relationship with the Lord. Coming from the Hebrew Shabbat, the word Sabbath means "to cease". It invites us to rest from all our activities. We invite you to give yourself the gift of a Sabbath day, to take some time away in the quiet, and to hear the words of the psalmist: be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). It is often only in the silence that we can calm and quiet our soul (Ps. 131:2) and become more fully aware of God s presence in us and around us. These days will be cushioned in prayer. Scripture passages and reflection questions will be made available and a single bedroom provided. $40.00 per session (includes lunch) Spiritual direction can be arranged in advance for an additional fee. Grief is a natural response to loss and yet the grieving process can vary greatly from one person to the next. How does one adjust to life after the death of someone who was close to us? Together we will uncover tools that will help you to cope effectively with grief. 7 LENT AND EASTER THROUGH THE EYES OF MARY Jesusʼ Life, Death, and Resurrection Wednesday, March 13 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Teresa Hanlon How would Mary, the mother of Jesus, see the life, death, and resurrection of her son? How might she have remembered his life? How is her life relevant to ours today? On this day we will look at the biblical passages of Jesus through the person of Mary. Our life s journey is sacred. Pilgrimages provide the opportunities for us to journey in an intentional way, usually to a sacred or holy place. Drawing on the experience of those who have made a pilgrimage to Spain and the Holy Land, the movie The Way, and journeys of biblical figures, we will reflect together on the ups and downs, turning points, joys and sufferings that go with the journey of life. This workshop will introduce participants to the ancient Christian tradition of icon writing. During this six day workshop you will learn the technique of writing an icon on a wood board covered with gesso, egg tempera from natural pigments and gilding with 23 kt gold leaf. There will be daily prayer, demonstrations, theological reflections and group sharing. The image that will be written is Mother of Tenderness. Our prayer is focused on bringing us into greater awareness of God s Spirit breathing us into being in every second of our lives. We might say that our breath is our prayer word. Because this kind of prayer is without words or images we simply turn to the vast Silence within Silence being another name for God, according to Meister Eckhart. Each evening includes an inspirational reading and a time of silent prayer followed by brief sharing. PRESENCE Formation for the Ministry of Spiritual Direction in the Christian Tradition Patricia Macdonald The Presence Program is a two year, part time program designed to help participants discern and recognize their calling to the ministry of spiritual direction while growing in their own spiritual development. It is an ecumenical program open to Christian women and men aged 35+. Presence is eligible for transfer credit at St. Stephen s College at the University of Alberta. 15 PROGRAM AND RETREAT REGISTRATION PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS While payment in full at the time of registration is appreciated, a non refundable deposit, as detailed below under "Cancellation Policy," is required. Payment in full must be made at least one week before the start of the event. Please note that many of our programs offer a lower price for early registration with payment. HOW TO REGISTER Program registrations can be made in the following ways: On line: By retreats@providencerenewal.ca By phone: Call Kathy Budgell, Program Assistant at BOOKING A PRIVATE RETREAT OR SABBATICAL We require a minimum of three days advance notice to book a private retreat in order to provide meals. To book a private retreat or parlour for day use, please call (Ext. 0) or csilveira@providencerenewal.ca. Applications for sabbaticals require a $ (non refundable) deposit. Sabbaticals are payable in monthly installments at the beginning of each month. For information on sabbaticals call or retreats@providencerenewal.ca. PAYMENT OPTIONS We accept VISA, MasterCard, cheque, and cash. (If cost is a hindrance to your attendance at one of our programs or retreats, please contact Debbie Doornbos, Program Director, ). CANCELLATION POLICY Providence Renewal Centre reserves the right to cancel any of our programs/retreats. If PRC does cancel a program or event, a full refund, including the deposit amount, will be issued. Deposits are otherwise non refundable and are required at the time of registration as follows: a. Day or evening programs: $15.00 b. Scheduled weekend or weeklong retreat: $50.00 c. Booked private retreat: $15.00 Participants requesting a cancellation 72 hours or more before the scheduled event will be issued a refund minus the appropriate deposits listed above. Requests for cancellation made less than 72 hours before a scheduled program will not be eligible for a refund. Program and retreat fees are not transferable.
