Oct , Theology Jan , Ethics of Spiritual Direction April 7-11, Supervision July 21-25, Case Studies and Retreat This two-year program consists of four weekly training sessions each year. It prepares participants for the ministry of spiritual direction from a Catholic perspective and in the spirit of Saint Angela Merici. Spiritual direction is the art of listening and companioning someone in an atmosphere of openness, honesty and prayer. The director helps the directee to discern the movement of the Spirit in his or her life. The Spiritual Direction Training Program at Mount Saint Joseph is an opportunity to develop and practice skills necessary to learn the art of spiritual direction. The rural setting offers a quiet and serene atmosphere for prayer and discernment. The program is designed for both experienced directors and those who feel the call to this ministry. Under competent supervisors, all participants will have opportunities to learn and refine their skills. Please register for this 2-year program by Aug. 15, MEN S RETREAT: LIVE EACH DAY-BE ALIVE TO YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE Director: Monsignor Bernard Powers Date: Feb , 2012 (Begins 6:30 p.m. Friday) Cost: Residents-$175, Commuters-$120 This is an opportunity to strengthen one s relationship with God through a directed retreat, prayer, silence and free time. Participants can enjoy fellowship and the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere of the Center. WOMEN S RETREAT: THE BOOK OF RUTH Seasons of a Woman s Life: Lessons from the Book of Ruth Director: Sister Cheryl Clemons, OSU Date: March 23-25, 2012 Cost: Residents-$175 Commuters-$120 The Biblical Book of Ruth has it all age, youth, grief, romance, loyalty, separation, risk, disappointment, financial ruin, marriage, widowhood, living as a foreigner in an alien country, childbirth and second chances. It is a story of loss and renewed life, of losing a sister and gaining a new family, of God doing surprising things by bringing an outsider from a despised people into the ancestry of Jesus Christ. Perhaps above all, the Book of Ruth is a story of friendship, a story of women supporting women in all of life s sorrows and joys. And it s a story of fidelity of Ruth s faithfulness to Naomi and of God s faithfulness to all humanity in Jesus. During this Lenten weekend, retreatants will be invited to reflect on their own lives against the background of the story of Ruth and Naomi. Topics covered will include coping with loss, making choices, remaining loyal in friendship, taking risks, living as an outsider, hoping against hope, and opening to new life. Retreatants will be invited to see in the story of Ruth a Lenten metaphor for God s faithful presence in our lives.
3 The Incarnation, life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus is God s pledge of fidelity: Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you live, I will live. Wherever you die, I will die, and there be buried, only to rise to new life in the Resurrection. Sister Cheryl Clemons, OSU, is vice president for academic affairs/academic dean at Brescia University, Owensboro, Ky., and has taught a variety of theology, liturgy, spirituality and biblical courses, including Women in Christian Tradition and Women s Spirituality. She holds a doctorate from The Catholic University of America in historical theology systematics, with minors in women s theology and medieval church history. CENTERING PRAYER Directors: Sister Ann McGrew, OSU and TBA Date: June 17-23, 2012 Cost: $450-Residents $275-Commuters The purpose of this 8-day Centering Prayer Retreat is to assist participants in entering into a more intimate relationship with God and self. The intensive retreat is for those interested in profound levels of spiritual practice in an atmosphere of silence, solitude, and community. The post-intensive retreat provides an opportunity for intense centering prayer and is designed for those with past intensive prayer experience. The retreat utilizes models developed by Father Thomas Keating, O.C.S.O., a Trappist monk and priest of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. He is a founder of the Centering Prayer movement and of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. SISTERS CONFERENCE RETREAT Director: Sister Regina Robbins, SND, M.A. Date: July 15-21, 2012 Cost: Residents: $450 Commuters: $275 Trilogy of Love: Transformation Through Living the Vows is the theme of the conference retreat. Everyday life with all it entails provides the arena for living the vows joyfully and authentically. But sometimes we forget to pull on the grace of the vows. By integrating our vows with our daily situations, we experience a life-giving and personal transformation that leads to holiness and prophetic witness. Centered in the mystery of our relationship to Jesus Christ, true God and true man, the retreat invites us to look anew at our commitment through the lenses of scripture, Church teachings and in the light of contemporary reality. SISTERS DIRECTED RETREAT Directors: Sister Helen O Brien, OSU Sister Mary Matthias Ward, OSU Date: July 15-21, 2012 Cost: Residents: $450 Commuters: $275 This is a silent retreat for women religious with a daily conference with a director and optional group morning and evening prayer and daily Eucharistic liturgies.
