The cub scouts will be dropping off the grocery bags this Saturday, October 1 st. The Scouts will be collecting the grocery bags on Saturday, October 15 th. I should receive a call with additional details closer to the October 15 th collection. We will need 4 5 volunteers to help unload, check expiration dates and shelve the boy scout donations. Thank you, Scott Ice Cream Social: Thank you for supporting the Ice Cream Social this year held on September 18. We served 120 people! The quilt raffle went to John Moffit from DeWitt, IA. Congratulations! Knights of Columbus is selling tootsie rolls. The funds go to help the mentally disabled citizens in eastern Iowa. You will find them at the church entrance. Thank you! Tipton Faith Formation Students in grades K 7 will meet at 9 a.m. in the hall the first three days of each month. Remaining classes in October are the 9 th and 16 th and the Fifth day, October 30. October 30 - The Fifth day Family Prayer: Mom, Dad, Kids the whole family or part of the family are welcome to this meeting in the hall at 9 a.m. to learn about how to pray together whether the whole household is Catholic or not. We will discuss simple bedtime prayer, praying a blessing for our food, how to offer a quick prayer when you hear a siren, and what are the Catholic prayers. Coffee and Rolls on October 23. Confirmation Class of 2018 (Grades 8 9): First and third Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Next class is October 19. (High school students who have not yet been confirmed are welcome to join this class also. Or contact Father Okumu or Mary Barnum for information on preparation.) Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors Third Wednesdays of the month in the parish hall. Our Adult classes are ongoing participants meet days at 9 a.m. in the religious education office in the hall. You may jump into this class anytime to explore how the wisdom of each week s Scripture applies to our lives today. 4 4 WELCOME TO ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH MECHANICSVILLE & TIPTON IOWA REFLECTION A s Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him and raised their voices, saying, Jesus, Master! Have pity on us! And when he saw them, he said, Go show yourselves to the priests. As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God? Then he said to him, Stand up and go; your faith has saved you. LK 17:11-19 QUESTION OF THE WEEK Theme: We are Eucharistic people. We live in praise and thanksgiving. Step One: Listen to the Word Listen carefully to the Gospel of this week. What image in this story strikes you most forcefully? What word or phrase caught your ear? Step Two: Look into Your Life Question for Children: Make up a prayer which tells God you are thankful for everything you have, even if it s not all you want. Question for Youth: Only one of the lepers returned to give thanks. This past week, when have you stopped to thank someone for something good they have done for you? When have you thanked God this week? Question for Adults: What are some ways you can think of to show gratitude to God? Make them concrete and real.
