Knights Corner The Center Ring Leaders 4-H Club wants to recycle your Christmas cards and any other greeting cards that you have. Cards will be collected until February 5th, Cards will be recycled and used for art projects at Camp Courageous. They are able to use the entire card for their projects so you do not need to remove the back of the cards. Britney Ford has placed drop boxes at the church entrances where you can leave your cards. Sometimes I wonder what this world will look like when my children get to be my age. Everything seems to be changing so rapidly and much of that change doesn't seem to be for the good. I do think in some ways the Church is experiencing resurgence and a strengthening, but it will have to in the face of an increasing culture of atheism and selfishness. Of course, I bet my parents wondered the same thing when I was a child. As much as things change, they remain the same. When Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount, I would guess some parents there were having the same kind of worries. But Jesus proposed a way of life in the beatitudes that was countercultural then and is countercultural now. In his book, "Life of Christ," Fulton Sheen said this: "The Sermon on the Mount is so much at variance with all that our world holds dear that the world will crucify anyone who tries to live up to its values." Living a stewardship way of life means bringing the beatitudes into our daily lives in a profound way. However, it also means living in a way that others may not understand or they may even turn away from us because of it. But with the reward in the end being the kingdom of heaven, the choice is really a matter of life and death, eternally speaking. Church expenses can increase over time as more maintenance maybe needed and, we hope, as more people come into the church. Please remember to support the Parish now and in the future. When you do Estate Planning, please consider a bequest to St. Mary Parish so that future generations may be blessed with a solid place to receive the sacraments as you were. Scholarship available: St. Ambrose University, continuing its mission of service to the Diocese of Davenport, announces the Parish Scholarship Program for the academic year. To qualify, Catholic students must be nominated by their pastors, and meet the admissions requirements of St. Ambrose University. Contact Shirley to receive more information. Nontraditional students may apply for the scholarships. The award is named for the late Marguerite Ritzinger, a Sigourney native, who left $388,770 to the diocese to help with scholarships for seminarians and students attending colleges or universities. Applications must include an essay, copy of a high school or college transcript and two reference letters all sent together along with the application form. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. MT 5:1:12A QUESTION OF THE WEEK Theme: The Beatitudes -- a way of life -- a map to happiness. Step One: Listen to the Word When you heard the Beatitudes proclaimed today, which one struck you? What one word from this reading lingers now in your memory? Step Two: Look into Your Life Question for Children: Choose one of the Beatitudes and share how you will make it part of your life. Question for Youth: Jesus gives us a plan for our happiness in the beatitudes. Do the things that make you happiest also lead you towards God? Do they follow God s plan? Question for Adults: How do you describe what it means to be blest in your own life?

Interested in fighting poverty? Then consider being an intern for CCHD. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development: Provides grants for self-help projects developed by grassroots groups working to address the root causes of poverty in their communities. Works to increase Catholics awareness of poverty in the U.S. Educates about the Catholic social tradition. Builds bridges between poor and non-poor communities. Intern must be able to attend the May 31 to June 2, 2017 CCHD Training. (Expenses paid).
