2 Dear Parents, As we begin this new year of religious education, please be assured that the staff at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and the catechists in our CCD program are dedicated to helping your children grow in faith and be closer to God. As parents, you are the primary educators of your children and are their best teachers. Your children learn the most from the example you set when you pray together and actively participate in Mass and the sacraments as a family. Your Confirmation student will be given a Chosen textbook on the first day of class. Please take time to familiarize yourself with this wonderful learning tool. The basic tenants of our Catholic faith are explained in age appropriate language, lessons are reinforced with activities and scripture stories and the faith concepts are connected to life experiences in the church and family. Each chapter is also accompanied by short video segments that help in explaining and teaching the content of our faith being covered in each lesson. Immaculate Heart of Mary is committed to providing a safe environment for all our students. Class dates are listed below and attendance policy is listed in the CCD Program Guidelines attached to this letter. Sacramental preparation schedules will be sent home throughout the year and printed in the parish bulletin. Classes are scheduled on the 1 st and 3 rd Sundays of the month. Our Religious Education Program is carefully designed to assist you in the faith formation of your children. Please feel free to visit your child's classroom at any time and get to know his/her teacher. Our staff is looking forward to a rewarding year! 3 Confirmation Program Guidelines Confirmation classes will be from 11:15am to 1:15pm. Students will have class beginning at 11:15am at the Parish Office/Youth Ministry building located on the other side of the Church parking lot. Students can be dropped off no earlier than 11:00am. Confirmation will end at 1:15pm and students can be picked up at that time if they have not driven themselves. If your child needs to be picked up, parents are asked to wait for their children outside of the Parish Office/Youth Ministry building. Students are to attend all classes and are to report on time. If an absence is unavoidable, please call the Parish Office to report the absence. If your child is absent, the missing material must be made up. Please talk to your child s teacher about scheduling a time to make up the lesson. All classes must be made up before the Sacrament of Confirmation for the student to be confirmed. There is a $20.00 charge to replace lost textbooks. Parents are not to take children from class before dismissal time. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Any student acting in poor behavior will be asked to call his/her parents to come and pick him/her up. Parents will then need to arrange a meeting with the teacher, program manager, and the student before the student will be admitted back into the class. Cell phones, ipods, electronic games and all other personal electronics are not permitted in classes. These items must be powered off during class.
