1 The Song of Saint Francis Saint Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church Salter Path, North Carolina November 2018 It s a Date Suffering and Growing November /2 Art Opening 5:30 BluSail group 11/18 Angel Tree 11/25 Blessing of the Bricks 12/13 Angel Tree potluck and carol sing 12/15 Christmas Cheer Lunch & Presbyterian 12/24 Christmas Eve Service 1/12 Hope Mission Cook & Serve We have become more open with each other since the storms began, I am noticing, and more compassionate. St. Francis has always been a friendly, affirming church, but I am seeing an even greater interest in talking with each other and really listening. We ask about damages and health and what all has to be done, and where the hope is, and how to find the energy for all of this. And we want to know the truth. Suffering does that, and we are suffering together. Suffering often opens us up to each other, to more depth and to communion. It can break down walls that separate us if we let it. It is common to the whole human family, and it is as persistent as the day is long. That it why it makes us brothers and sisters to everyone, if we let it. Then let it. Use this time to become even more the person you essentially are in your heart. Use it to become a more honest and daring love. If it has been hard for you to reach out, try it now. The burdens we all are carrying encourages us to become more vulnerable, more openly needy, softer, gentler, even more mystical. Suffering also can connect us more strongly to God. Jesus in many ways is for us a man of great love, and great sorrows. Great compassion and excruciating pain. Unspeakable awareness of everyone, who knew about betrayal and forgiveness, and yet teaches us to sing Alleluia at the grave. We can t dodge this bullet. It hits every one of us right in the heart. But we can open up and let God shine through us. We can let this be food for the soul. We can become more than we ever dreamed. Everett+
2 Page 2 Vestry View Meet Lisa Mosier Some people are just easy to talk to and to get to know. Beth Beswick knows that for sure, as well as the Baxter's, Betty Watson, Bobbie Hill, and the others who volunteer in the nursery. While big people are having church upstairs, Lisa gets to know the little people downstairs, such as the Perry boys, Win and Holt. She considers herself a floor person who likes to get down on the floor and play with the kids. She likes singing and dancing with kids and to see their different personalities. Lisa is in her second year at St. Francis, as our representative from Nancy s Nannies, who comes each Sunday to watch over our children. Lisa currently lives in Newport with her husband. They moved here from New Jersey to take care of a disabled friend who needs help with daily living. Lisa was born in Louisiana, and because her father was an accountant for Texaco, her family moved where he was called to work. She considers herself a Southern girl and was glad for the opportunity to come back this way. I was surprised when Lisa told me about her two grandchildren, ages eight and ten. I would have thought those would have been the ages of her children not her grandchildren! Working with kids must keep you young! In her spare time she enjoys cross-stitching. Lisa has child care experience and has taken continuing education classes for her day care work. In addition to the work she does for St. Francis, she does other baby-sitting jobs in the local area for Nancy s Nannies. She is looking forward to the communal baby-sitting for the annual military balls coming up in November. Lisa was raised Catholic and raised her children in the Catholic tradition as well. She feels comfortable with our liturgy and enjoys the warm, friendly people here at St. Francis. Lisa joins us upstairs when her duties have ended. Thanks, Lisa, for caring for our children! Barbara McCreary Openings: Artistry In Small Bites Is available for purchase on Sundays for $30. Shipping is an additional $5.
