1 Maple Messenger Volume 29 Issue 3 March 2017 On Sunday, March 19, our church is in for a treat. Rev. Steve Levinson will be sharing with us Genesis Seminar. He will be talking with our children during Sunday School regarding evolution vs. creationism. He will equip our youth with information to counter what they will hear regarding evolution. During our Sunday morning service, Steve will take us exploring the Book of Genesis giving understanding as to why Genesis is so foundational to the rest of the Bible. He will show how the doctrines in Genesis are being undermined and how evolution is affecting our culture. On Sunday night, we will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Fossils, Noah s Ark, and Dinosaurs. Steve s huge fossil collection will be use to show the truth of a global flood. He will answer how the earth and fossils are dated, about ape-men, caves, and much more. You will not want to miss this day. Rev. Steve Levinson is a graduate of Liberty University and has pastored adults and youth, and worked with at risk youth in over 50 schools. He can be heard on CSN Radio every weekend for his Creation Discoveries, which is a one minute nugget of truth. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice. Pilate responded, What is truth? (From John 18:37-38) The Nature of Existence is a 2010 documentary that asks and attempts to answer some of life's biggest questions. One of the segments is on truth. One particular scene begins with the word truth on the screen and a drawing of a man with his fingers crossed behind his back as if he is concealing something. The narrator asks questions, and various people answer. The narrator asked the question, What is truth? Below are some answers he received. Bobby Gaylor, musician: What people don't want to hear. Segal, professor of religion, Columbia University: When somebody claims to know the truth, and claims to be able to tell it to you, the first thing you should do is check to see if you still have your watch, because that's the prelude to getting taken. 3 Relentless prayers Are you reluctant to bring the same prayers to your heavenly Father over and over? Maybe you don t want to trouble God; after all, he already knows what you re going to say. Plus, you re not worthy to ask for anything! If those thoughts surround you, think about Patrick, Ireland s patron saint. At 16, he was dragged from his home to be a slave. Patrick tended sheep in the cold. Hungry and miserable, he begged God for mercy and deliverance. In his Confessio, Patrick recalls praying a hundred times in the day and almost as many at night. Without ceasing, he told God of his needs, wants, thanksgiving and confession. And God heard his prayers. Pray relentlessly. God is always listening! 4 Woman s Missionary Union Maple on Mission Cultivate Relationships, Invest Time Putting a puzzle together takes time. However, it can go a lot faster if others join us. Sometimes life feels like a jigsaw puzzle, especially when pieces reveal unexpected images. Sometimes we feel out of place. Sometimes things seem to have gone to pieces. This month s theme reminds women of how God can build His Kingdom when we work together investing in others, finding our fit. The children s ministry day went well and we had quite a few participants from Maple. We had a great group and a wonderful learning experience! Any one who wants to participate in The Bucket Project please just donate money instead of buying items, this will make sure we can get all of the items to assemble a whole bucket. The Week of Prayer for North American Missions is coming up on March the theme this year is Together for His Kingdom this month s Mission Mosaic has more information, and a leaflet is available on the WMU table. Maple s goal for the Annie Armstrong Offering in $1, and we will be collecting during March and April, so try to budget your offerings. Recipe From: from Ginnie Phipps Causey Ginnie is long standing member of Maple Baptist, she has served as a member of the counting committee and as a counselor for young women. You will recognize her since she always wears a smile! Corned Beef and Potatoes Slice white potatoes thin and boil until tender. Put into greased pyrex dish. Take one can of corned beef and crumble over potatoes. Pour on can of mushroom soup over that (dilute if necessary). Sprinkle butter on top. Stick in the oven and heat thoroughly.
