On Sunday, October 15th we will be blessed to have one of our own Rev. Brad Thompson will be speaking and hopefully singing the Good News of Jesus Christ at our Homecoming services. After our morning worship service...we will have dinner on the grounds and renew our fellowship with friends that we have not seen for some time. Sometimes I wonder if God had put in our hearts a desire to go home and go back to the place of our upbringing. Ecclesiastes 3:11 He (God) has set eternity in the hearts of men. You see, God has set eternity in our hearts. And no matter how comfortable we may be in this world, our hearts are continually drawing us homeward and heavenward.. 1) At the end of a long hard day of work you just want to go HOME. 2) When you have been on a long trip, you re ready to get HOME!... 3) If you have ever traveled to a foreign country, you have no doubt found yourself a little homesick for HOME. Rod Sterling, the New York playwright who was most famous as the narrator on the 60 s hit TV Show, The Twilight Zone once wrote. Everybody has to have a hometown. In the strangely brittle, terribly sensitive makeup of the human being, there is a need for a place to hang our hat..a geographical womb to crawl back to...a special place where we can say, That s where I w a s born..or That s where I grew up. When I dig t h r o u g h m y memory, this place I call HOME gives me a distinct feeling of warmth, comfort and well-being. For whatever else I may have had..or lost.or will find, I ve still got a hometown. And this, no one can take away from me. I hope you can join us for this year s Homecoming services and I hope that you can bring a friend with you! Sunday School starts at 9:45 AM and Morning Worship at 11 AM. During life s autumn, we have a richer perspective and can count more blessings than ever before. Autumn, also, is a good time to focus on your commitment to God. Some of the saddest words in the Bible are in Jeremiah 8:20, The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. If you ve never make a commitment to Jesus Christ, do it now, while there is still time. If you are a follower of Christ, remember to remain close to Him during the shifting seasons of life. During autumn, we all know that winter lies ahead, but if winter comes, can spring be far behind? 5 PAGE 5 WMU News October will be a very busy month for WMU related activities. On Sunday, October 1st, Global Hunger Relief (formally called World Hunger) is the mission emphasis for October and this mission will be i n t r o - d u c e d to the congregation on that day. Our goal for Global Hunger is $ which is the same as last yer. The ingathering will be held on Sunday, October 8th. Global hunger is not specifically in 3rd world countries. There is hunger right here in our own community. Every school year, we pack bags for some of the children that attend Pine Level Elementary. Each week someone from our church takes meals to some of the needy shut ins that have been identified in our community. Please pray for the people who go lacking essential nourishment and let your heart be your guide when you give to this special offering. Also, beginning on October 1st, our church will be collecting adult toothbrushes for the Red Box Ministry. Our goal is 200 toothbrushes!. We will collect these toothbrushes through Sunday, October 29th. Each adult size toothbrush must be individually packaged. A p l a s t i c bin will be provided and will be located under the table near the mailboxes. If you are not sure what the Red Box Ministry is, please feel free to ask me. WMU will be responsible for Open Assembly during the month of October. WMU will also be taking desserts to Hospice House on Wednesday, October 11th. Each dessert serving must be wrapped individually. The Cooperative Program Emphasis will also be spotlighted in October. Information detailing how the C o o p e r a t i v e Program works will be provided to each person who would like more information. The information will be located on top of the table in the side breezeway near the mailboxes. Right now our church gives 10% of our tithes to the Cooperative Program. We greatly appreciate everyone who supports missions in some way throughout the year. Every act of kindness to others is an act of kindness to Christ. God has chosen us to help one another.
