Share the Journey by attending the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration December 2 The Mother of the Americas event begins with a rosary at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Seattle, followed by a two-mile procession to St. James Cathedral. Once there, Mass in Spanish and English will be celebrated by Archbishop Sartain (and concelebrated by Bishops Elizondo and Mueggenborg and several other priests) at 12:10 p.m. After Mass, a reception will follow with food, mariachi and folk dance groups. Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) takes place during 10:30 mass for children aged 4-6. Lessons are specific to this age group. Children preparing for First Eucharist and older accompany their parents and participate in the sacrifice of the Mass in church. Pope Francis RETREAT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH OLF School and Parish have invited NET Ministries to come lead an after-school retreat on Wednesday, December 6th. This is open to all middle school youth, taking advantage of Wednesday s early dismissals, both at public school and at Fatima. NET Ministers are young Catholic men and women aged who travel across the U.S. to share the Gospel with youth and their families. Their retreats are exciting, energetic, and inspirational. Mark your calendar! POTLUCK: Families, come meet our 12 dynamic NET ministers! They come from all over our country and spend 9 months traveling to parishes like ours to share the Good News of Jesus. 7 DAVID THE KING An Advent Event Following the Sunday Liturgies DAVID IS THE PARADIGMATIC KING IN THE OLD TESTAMENT His kingship recalls that of Adam in the Garden of Eden, and yet it points toward the King par excellence, Jesus Christ. Adam was the first king and steward of the rightly ordered Garden of Eden. He was called to govern the garden according to God s mind and purpose, but by allowing negative influences to wreak havoc on Eden, he did not fulfill his kingly responsibility. Long after Adam, David emerged as the definitive king who would restore order in the Garden and bring the world under the lordship of God. But like Adam, David fell, and his reign ushered in a succession of compromised kings and rejected prophets. The New Testament, however, foretold a son of David who would realize the fullness of Israelite kingship...but whose actual reign defied expectation. King David causes us to look back toward Adam s kingship and forward toward Christ the King, seeing Christ as the fulfillment of the Davidic line and the realization of the Kingdom of God on earth.
