Often in the series one of the characters, Phil Dunfy an impulsive father of three, gets the family into some kind of dilemma and his wife will ask, in an agitated tone, What s the plan, Phil? A lot of times in life we need a plan. A couple of years ago I began thinking I should try to lose some weight. Every few months or so I found myself loosening my belt yet another notch. Intellectually, I knew I should do something but it stayed right there, as a thought; I knew I needed to do something, but wasn t really doing anything. I realized I needed a plan. I joined a gym, changed my diet, and began to take both things seriously. After losing 30 lbs, I realized having a plan is one thing, working the plan is another. Ben Franklin once said, failing to plan is planning to fail. That s true in lots of things; planning a wedding, investing for the future, and getting into shape just to name a few. It s also true in our spiritual life. Spiritual growth doesn t just happen, any more than getting in shape or saving for a rainy day just happens. It helps to have a plan, and then working the plan. Deepening our understanding of the scriptures, growing in discipleship, going deeper in our prayer life doesn t just happen. It takes a plan and action. I know many of you engage in a regular discipline of Bible reading and prayer. It is my hope over the next few weeks and months we can have some conversation about how all of us, individually and corporately, can develop a strategy to go deeper in discipleship. What s the plan? 2 P A G E 2 Ladies, if you want to spend a morning having a good time and joyful fellowship, then join us each Tuesday at 10AM (Year-round)! June 2018 June is busting out all over, all over the meader and the hill. We are in full bloom. I can now tell the color of my car is blue not greenish yellow. We went to a quilt exhibit at the South Shore Science Center. The artist uses a Japanese technique to dye her material and does a lot of hand work in her piecing and quilting. One of her quilts was of Fenway Park, a beach scene and one of fire flys. Then it was lunch time! Went to DQ for their lunch special including ice cream. Business meeting and birthday lunch. Madeline and Joan had birthdays this month. And a movie at the theatre. Saw " Oceans 8 " with Sandra Bullock and 7 other notable actresses. George Clooney is her brother in the " Oceans " movies. Tuesday is bargain day. Except for the popcorn! The Strawberry Festival went well. About the same in previous years. The final count was $ Thanks to all. Our service project was the memory books we make. We gave some to COA's to use in their adult day care programs or the memory cafes. Next month our service project is getting a head start on signing Christmas cards for veterans. Out to lunch at the Ansel Guerney House and maybe a Cape Cod Canal cruise. All are welcome to join us just let us know. Happy and safe 4th of July! Our functions and purposes are service and outreach, self-development (sharing & learning) and fellowship (overcoming aloneness). Each tag has a Christmas item or School Supply item (s) needed for the Massachusetts Baptist Multi-Cultural Ministry (MBMM) which is a Mission under the AB Home Mission Society in Lexington, MA. They help legal refugees escaping oppression with needed items as they settle in their new homes here in the United States. Note: The items are part of the Old Colony Baptist Association s White Cross request which is for AB Home Mission Society support of MBMM for Your unwrapped gifts are due back by July 29th. There are many items needed besides what is on the gift tags, if you what to give additionally please call Carol Polio (at the Church Office) for other items requested. Don t want to shop? 6 HANSON FOOD PANTRY Hours : Tuesday 10AM - 12PM 6PM - 8PM 228 High Street, Hanson! Call Did you know that the Hanson Pantry now provides food to Pembroke residents? As with Hanson clients, they just need to provide proof of residency. For donations, First Baptist Church is being asked for the following food items: coffee and brown rice, as well as the following personal care items: toilet paper, shampoo, and dish detergent, deodorant and toothpaste. The Dollar Tree is a great place to find these items at a reasonable price. Paper and plastic bags are always needed. As always, any donations are greatly appreciated. Starting in 2015 Please leave donations at either entrance of our church in the provided receptacles. Like them on Facebook!
